The reason they chose Kiryu is more so for thematic reasons. Also the Absolute Zero Cannon is still an actual wincon Dragonzord doesn't resist it, even if Kiryu would realistically be blitzed and one-shot beforehand.

Besides the Magic School Bus being a vehicle, however autonomous it may or may not be, it being a vehicle instead of a superhero AND it both hax & tier stomps Captain Planet into the dirt makes me weep for him. Both are superpowered educational show characters, but surely Captain Planet has better foes with more in common as characters, right? Likewise for Mrs. Frizzle & her Magic School Bus.

I think the idea behind that one is that it's one of the earliest video game characters vs one of the earliest cartoon characters. Though honestly, I think they both have better (Luigi for Pac-Man, and Oswald the Lucky Rabbit for Felix).
