DEATH BATTLE! Discussion Thread (All-time Death Battle Spoilers Alert)

Hinging my bets on Ruby vs Maka for the 200th episode. Ton of legacy there, it'd be a big tribute to Monty, whose death was a bit over 10 years ago now, and was one of Torrian's biggest inspirations. Would also explain why they changed it from Ash vs Yugi; maybe when Torrian's goal was met, they talked about it and Torrian figured he could have it ready on schedule if they let him do it.
its not ruby vs maka either

iirc the crew said in a fireside chat that Ash vs Yugi might be pushed back from being the 200th episode since a lot of work is going into it.
Yea, someone in chat managed to trick them into deconfirming it by saying something that assumed they already announced it lol. But Ben went along with it and officially confirmed it'll be later on and that the 200th episode match-up will make a lot of sense.
its not ruby vs maka either
Ah was that confirmed at some point as well? Damn, hard to think of something that'll be bigger than that.

Hey hey! So, regarding the G1 prediction blog for Hulk VS Godzilla...To cut straight to the chase, there will not be one. Between the rather aggressive nature of the debate, the massive amount of content for each, and the fact that a number of our regular guests don't want to touch the match at all... we do not want to make a blog, and feel that it is simply not feasible for something to be curated at a reasonable level of quality within the next month. Which brings me to a secondary point...Last time we skipped out on an episode prediction - that being Bill VS Discord - another blog team, the G1^2, decided to do one instead. While obviously we have no right to forbid anyone from doing whatever they want, I will express that we think it would be better if a blog was not made at all. Volatile match yadda yadda, but more importantly than that, the Bill VS Discord G1^2 blog was in many circles mistaken for a regular G1 blog, and many people are still under the impression that the G1 team and contributors were responsible for the arguments made in that blog. Ideally, given the high likelihood of a surrogate blog being mistaken for ours, we would prefer if one were not made. That being saiddddd, personal preferences aside, people are free to choose what they want to do. If someone does go against this request and sets up a Hulk VS Godzilla blog of their own, we would only request that you please at least put a big disclaimer on it to clarify that it is not a G1 blog. So that it will be less likely to be mistaken for ours.

Why is speedy saying there won’t be a G1 blog when he’s on the research team? Isn’t G1 a fan blog?

imagine a matchup so toxic that even an entire team of community researchers doesn't want to touch it...

I don’t like this reasoning to not do a blog because the match is toxic. Most vs matches are toxic even old episodes were they made blogs about it. I don’t like when they do this but whatever.

I run the G1 blog server. I don't actually work on the blogs or partake in discussion (other than occasionally the bonus blogs) since I work on the show, but stuff like moderating the channels, setting up the blog documents, quality checks, posting the blogs to Wordpress, etc. are all my responsibility.

Wow. I don't blame them honestly.

On the topic of the latest episode, i think that was f#ckin awesome, but similar to simon vs kyle, my only major complaint is that it just kinda felt too short. I felt like it all went by too quickly, more like a 2 minute fight on my first watch tbh. I also feel they could have done something with the vestiges or overlay on deku's part, even if small for the former, like an all might vestige, which i thought was a pretty neat idea for Deku vs Asta. I think time constraints may have played a role in that, though.

Kind of a minor thing, but going to an 'abandoned part of the city' doesn't exactly make safe to go all in, lmao, what if there's squatters there? Especially since you're right next to NYC, which has a notable homelessness problem

Aside from that, i think this was really good! As expected of moro, the animation was phenomenal, and the track slapped, although it was more rap-based than i was expecting. I didn't have any issues with the voice acting either, and the references to both franchises were neat.

They definitely made an effort to stay true to both of their characters as well, making the death unintentional and all, even if i figured it was a bit silly that Deku hit miles with lethal force to overcome his vibranium suit's limit when they went with the 'Friendly spar' approach.

But overall, i'd give this one an 8/10. Might not be my favourite in the 2025 season, but it's great, not bad at all. Certainly better than the previous fights that included both of these guys imo.

Agreed. I really enjoyed this too., great. Fight to me has rewatchability and I'm still picking up on easter eggs and references.

Cities have streets :^)

That will never change due to VSB's rules on Marvel scaling.
As if we've never reformed that before? Or are we saying that our Marvel scaling is a result of those reforms?

Oh, i also liked how they dropped the 'Guy who powers up first loses' trope for this one too, given how Deku activated Gearshift and Miles activated his yellow electric form thing at roughly the same time Forgot what it was called already

I just saw the new death battle, I am so surprised they missed the “clearing the weather in America part” entirely.
Oh yeah, i noticed that too. Maybe they did that to make it seem closer? It seems like Death Battle wants to downplay the severity of stomps to try and make it look at least a little interesting, Like with Doomslayer vs Chief.

Honestly Shadow vs Ryuko might have been a more egregious example IMO. They only gave Shadow planetary stuff as opposed to all of the Uni/Multi feats/scaling he has because I guess they didn't buy into IF scaling at the time for KLK?
