DEATH BATTLE! Discussion Thread (All-time Death Battle Spoilers Alert)

Here’s a shower thought:

We all know of Death Battles that have correct verdicts with good reasoning (Omni-Man VS Homelander).

We all know of Death Battles that have correct verdicts with bad reasoning (Martian Manhunter VS Silver Surfer).

We all know of Death Battles that have incorrect verdicts with bad reasoning (Guts VS Nightmare).

The punnett square suggests there should be at least one episode that has the incorrect verdict with good reasoning, any candidates for that title?
Daredevil vs Nightwing comes to mind, but it’s debatable

It seems like a paradox, wrong verdict should automatically mean good reasoning is impossible. But going through a list, uhhhh

Maybe some earlier eps? Assuming we allow lenience from casual non-vs debater logic, stuff like "Roboenza makes Metal Sonic betray and go solo" is in casual way cute story idea that could happen.

Yeah like, it has to be old one to be wrong. If a modern ep is wrong, its like SasukeHiei & OmnimanBardock where its "please buy these calcs that dont fit with stories teehee". Unless you go for debatable ones, but they dont feel like point here.

Hell, this fits into Pokemon vs Lions logic. Just ignore VS shit. Think about it like casual. In fact, imagine that youd had to research & animate a fight in 2 weeks. And that was 14 years ago, not only was VS shit niche, no one really calced worth shit. So assuming casual leniency mode:

Rogue beating WW is funny. WW has a lot of bare skin in her outfit. Rogue absorbs powers by skin touch. Seems simple. Some guidebooks give low stats for WW even tho they look professional, and while its battle for death, WW is not gonna insta stomp. So Rogue has a shot to turn tables.

Nobody knows Bomber Man is Kirby. People back then didnt know Kirby was a Kirby. So play Bomber Man casually. What do his bombs do? Kill him. His main attack can be exploited so I dont think this is outlandish that Dig Dug can beat him.

Is looking things from casual mindset ok?

We have a thread dedicated to evaluating Death Battle matches for such criteria by our VSBW standards:

Looking at the OP, seems like the "Wrong, Decent" rating might be what you're interested in, no?

Hope this helps!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Archie Sonic get some buffs that allows him to 1-tap Wally semi-recently? If yes, that'd probably be my choice.

Scrooge vs Shovel Knight also kinda lands in this category, if only on a 'standards of the time' basis. I heard rumours about Uni SK though, if that's any food for thought.

Looking through this thread reminds me of how many profiles on this wiki are out of date, barebones, suffering from severe citogenesis, or the standards of scaling being absolutely wack. WDYM that Infinite Frontiers Supes gets outhaxxed by Goku according to the standards of this wiki?

Speaking of which, I found this gem in the thread, a “debunk” of Goku VS Superman 3:

And funny how most franchises here get updated when death battle tackles them

Maybe Omni-Man vs Bardock could've fit this if Bardock took strength and Nolan took speed but Nolan still won. If they had argued that the latter had better speed, adaptability, stamina, and experience, he could've outlasted Bardock's forms especially in space, which would've been way more plausible than what we got. I think Bardock should still win since in that case since he one-taps Nolan and still has a range advantage but the logic of Nolan winning that way could've made sense? It's hard to validate wrong verdicts logically so that's the best I can do.

Anyway, I have to tap out for the night - but there's something I'd like to ask y'all for when I get up in the morning:

See, I've been thinking about my Xeno JRPG MU spreads, and one character I've been struggling to find a good main/alt for is Lin Lee Koo. For that, I'd like to hear some suggestions.

REQS:

  • Mechanically-minded genius prodigy at a young age (Lin is 13, before you ask). Make that an obsession or drive if you can.
  • Post-apocalypse setting (I know NLA is still industrial/developed, but her planet still blew up).
  • Have a strained but understanding relationship with someone in an adjacent circumstance (read: what happened with Lao).
  • Be at least 7-C+ Physically, and 5-B+ when scaled.

For Bonus points:

  • Have a portable shield as a weapon.
  • Have a comic relief as a sidekick.
  • Have dead parents, 'preferably' in an accident (I know that sounds f*cked, but you know what I mean)
  • Can also cook (literally).

I have Annette from 3H put down rn, and while that one is OK-ish, it's kinda a placeholder. The only other one I can think of is Clemont from the Pokemon XY anime, but that's not post-apoc, unless you count the attack on Lumiose for whatever reason.

IDK Queen Tyr'ahnee, but I like her as an opponent for Lord Hater.
Same for Beat against Sora.
Dokuro Mitsukai vs Poemi Watanabe might be interesting.
What's the connection for Fleetway Sonic vs Kasen Ibaraki?
Moon Girl vs Hiro Hamada could be cool, especially with Devil Dinosaur & Baymax involved, though I'd fear for Hiro & Baymax.
Chucky vs M3GAN: Does M3GAN have a chance? I don't really know the franchise(s).
Sasaki Kojiro vs Roronoa Zoro might be neat, if he really could rival Zoro. (Skeptical.)
IDK Uryu Ishida, but I know Yuno Grinberryal, I think so I think it could be interesting.
Triple H vs Shao Kahn does sound like it'd be a stomp, but maybe not? John Cena versus could reptile coudl be neat, too, lol.
Next time is Medaka Kurokami is Superman... the heck?
