DEATH BATTLE! Discussion Thread (All-time Death Battle Spoilers Alert)

Hypothetically, who would win if Kratos and Asura were equal in everything? Kratos with his truckload of hax and weapon variety or Asura, who's capable of reviving himself in mere seconds and has rapidly growing strength?

If they can't understand "Hyperversal, outerversal, extraversal or boundless" than they aren't allowed to complain about them. I don't get what's so hard about at least reading the pages with the words in 'em. If they need to use CSAP for a simpler explanation than that's valid but just complaining about the words makes them look ignorant.

Asura's also got pretty good survivability, since he can handle a lot of damage. Still, even if stats were equal Kratos has hax and Asura doesn't have hax or much resistance.

Kratos has several viable and extremely obvious wincons. He has the Gorgon head and Claws of Hades to name the two most obvious ones. Asura doesn't resist them.

Anyway, at this point Asura is only valued in the versus community. Outside of that he's the guy from an unsuccessful game that flopped over ten years ago. That means that this upcoming battle is really just about Kratos; Asura's just the other guy. That's pretty much all the reason I need to predict Kratos' win.

I haven't played AW to know the context, but didn't Asura break out of stone when he came back to life would that count as resisting? He also did something similar when he fought Akuma if they count that. As well as having maybe some potential soul resistance from the AW manga.

Yes he did but it was like hundreds of thousands of years it took him to break out of it

I guess it's possible. He was probably more encased rather than transmuted though (could argue he was fossilised though).

Maybe. Still, this battle's about Kratos; they'll say he wins because his hair is better if they have to.

Now now.

Asura is the niche Capcom pick for next vs Mahvel.
They're making another Marvel vs Capcom game? I can see the logic since UMVC3 sold well and is still a competitive game a decade after release. The poor return on MVCI might cause them to shelve the franchise though.

There's nothing wrong with Asura as a character or with the core idea of his game. It flopped for a few reasons seperate to that. Firstly the gameplay is limited and it was more of a piece of multimedia than a game.

Secondly, and a far worse factor, is the predatory action of hiding the game's true ending behind a paywall. That was a very anti-customer act, and it didn't help that it happened right in the middle of a crisis for Capcom, with their Resident Evil franchise losing support, their rearranging of existing franchises being a failure and their attempted Western push proving to be the equivalent of making a bonfire out of money.

It seems to just be a normal thing that happens when a demigod dies for an extended period of time. Asura turned into this stone like substance after dying against the Gohma hoard, before coming back quickly

That was because it was all meant to be a sequel, and it ended up getting condensed into a DLC! It was unavoidable!!!!

Absolutely not confirmed lol

Speculating, they did do that Mahvel collection that seems to have done well? Maybe MvC can return eventually. I think MvC3 has legs too from their sales data.

Asura is like, one of the most consistently requested characters for a new MvC, to the extent that he was outright planned to be in MvC Infinite before they had to can the DLC plans.

Here's hoping he makes the next game.

Marvel agreed with Capcom to release their old games within the MvC collection, also its been pointed they are in good relations again, if the collection does well enough, they may plan for a new MvC title in the future

The collection is for that reason and devs said they are cooking stuff for the future, but all in time

That might bear some looking into.

Capcom did the same with at least one Deadrising game years later. I think they did it with something else as well.

Capcom had a rough time in almost all of 2010s except at the end of it and little of 2020s with a few titles

Nowadays though, Marvel and SNK seems to be in good terms with them and looking forward for new projects in the future and many other titles on their own

Dead Rising 4? More like BAD Rising, bazinga.
One of Capcom's less than stellar moments.

Their Western push was in that time. Almost destroyed two or three of their top four franchises, then they course corrected and fired the jackass who was behind the scheme. Now all four are okay and they've got a fifth flagship franchise.

For anyone wondering, their four flagships at that point were Resident Evil, Street Fighter, Mega Man and Devil May Cry, in that order. I'm pretty sure Mega Man was the only one that didn't take any damage from their actions in that time. They have since course corrected, and now Monster Hunter is added into the same category as Street Fighter and Mega Man. All five franchises are in a pretty good place now. RE, SF and MM are proving pretty stable and solid, Monster Hunter is proving to be extremely splashable and reliable as a top RPG, a contender for an even higher place especially with many of its rivals having relatively disappointing returns, and DMC saw a return to its previous upward trajectory with DMC5's success. I think Dragon's Dogma is a contender as well.

I have seen Capcom working with SNK. Marvel is having some growing pains at the moment, and is bound to be hesitant following MVCI, but didn't Capcom work with them on a Marvel game not too long ago?

Capcom having Terry and Mai in SF6 while Ken and Chun Li are confirmed for the Fatal Fury coming later this year, let alone both shown to release their Capcom vs SNK and SNK vs Capcom games for modern consoles and featurea for online shows they are eilling to do more, Capcom could do a 3rd vs series if it goes well

Marvel apparently approached them iirc and was said they are in good terms, the fact it even had the punisher game which was like 18+ is something, since i heard they didnt think it was good to have something so violent then, MvC:I was Marvel not wanting X-Men and F4 any reps i think among others

The video explains better

Yeah, clearly a growing relationship between Capcom and SNK.

Yeah that's true. Many fighting games are making the mistake of having smaller rosters than their predecessors.

This really is the year of Ninja Gaiden. A new 2d game, a new 3d game, and a new Black? Crazy, DB needs Hayabusa back for redemption.
Even scaling to the eclipse feat in the backstory (I made an approved calc for stopping the moon's natural orbit; it was High 6-A) would make Ryu way stronger than how they portrayed him. And his black hole ninpo would calc higher, probably moon or planet level.

Which is something big, its been over 20 years and after they said they dont think they will collab again

Its not the roster was small, its basically they didnt add fan favorites and Capcom had to tell something about why they cant add them without Marvel being seen in bad light for denying characters

Some peeps here try to get ninja gaiden at cosmic levels in some thread
