Re Zero Discussion Thread: Season 3 is Real

I swear there was at least one point in time where anglo-speaking fans weren't sure of the difference between Sirius and Capella, rough stuff.

Also have a sandbox for the side stories I read so far, will add that too.

Will have to read One Upon A Time in Lugunica first to see where Marcos stands in the skill chain though.
Can you send me a link for where i can find the side stories? I kinda behind on some of them.
The last one i read is basically a beach episode.

Rereading Julius vs Reid in "Good Loser" led me to noticing something.

The Japanese word that is used for every time Reid cuts concepts, is the same as the Japanese word in the same paragraph when it states Reid has achieved the manifestation of the [concept] of the sword, the word being 概念.

This word is translated as "notion" in this instance in the common fan translation which isn't incorrect at all, but it is indeed the same word used to describe him cutting concepts, and slashing the concept of sound and light.

So the paragraph describing Reid's ultimate sword could be written:
Killing the very concept (概念) of sound and light, Reid’s flash cleaved space.

He would affirm. Should it be the stipulated sword or the chopsticks, regardless, come what may in that flash’s path, it would be slashed down.

For that was, the very manifestation of the [concept] (概念) of the 『Sword』.

The 『Sword』 was that which was brought forth for the purpose of slashing objects down.
And sword moves, was the term denoting the techniques for slashing objects down with that sword.

Henceforth, the flash which slashed down all objects in the world, was the culmination, and the long-cherished original desire, of the 『Sword』 and of the 『Sword Moves』.

Those slashed by it, would not forget the truth of having been slashed down for eternity.

Thus, the scar Julius Juukulius sustained beneath his left eye, shall not fade away for eternity.

That was the indemnification for having dodged the Sword Saint’s flash, from a distance near enough to graze past.

Just something that could be added to the justification of his type 2 concept manip, and clarifies that because his swordsmanship manifests the very concept of the sword, all things in the world will be slashed down before it.

Skill blog is basically done i think.

If anyone has anything to add, i can also add to it.
Uh, haven't read the whole thing but right off the bat the first paragraph is, to be honest, kinda bad. It feels extremely misleading given physical capabilities come from the use of mana. saying it's just because of talent and skill is just wrong.

Also typo here
not due to some sot of superpower.

Nice job making this, gonna have a read at it later. Only thing I have to say is that I didn't know YenPress called Hornet "The Hornet".

It's all over the place, the whole mana stuff i added after i actually looked into it. They are superhuman, but they don't have "traditional" superpowers, ie i shoot this beam from my hand, but anyway i can reword/remove that.

Re Zero is a series which has essential 3 power systems, magic, blessings and authority. This blog will not cover those, that will be for another blog, this blog is in regards to martial artists/swordsmen.
This is just a nitpick, but i think this introduction is kind odd. Like, i don't know why mention Magic, blessing and authority If the blog not gonna talk about them. You could just start saying about martial artist and swordmanship.

Because it's a blog about a power system in a verse with at least 3 magic systems, I imagine.

Using mana to boost one's physical abilities- the Flow Method- is the basis for every non-magical, non-divine, and non-authority, superhuman feat. Even Subaru has unconsciously used the Flow Method in deadly situations.

I still don't see why mention the three of them, If Magic is the only important one.

I think the quote from Kurgan combined with the narration of Julius vs Reid make your point about Sword Saints and specifically the Heavenly Sword being the ultimate pinnacle and convergence of skill in the verse totally irrefutable.

The level of swordsmanship where one's weapon becomes the very manifestation of the concept of a "Sword"- an object that is for slashing things down- that slashes down all things that exist for eternity, is the ultimate goal of all warriors.

While warriors may differ in fighting style, techniques, or martial art, everyone is on a very, very, very long stairway from having no combat skill at all, to the Heavenly Sword. This likely connects all warriors that fight using Flow Method consciously or unconsciously.

Pretty much, Theresia doesn't fight hand to hand, but a hand to hand martial artist like current Garfiel could never be as skilled as her, because a Sword Saint is i would call "a war god", as long as fighting is involved they are the best.

It's almost, well petty much, that "swordsmanship" is the absolute peak, which makes perfect sense since everyone aims for the Sword Saint, and ultimately Reid.

This just makes it really funny to me that Rai got away with the whole "never before had a being excelled in every kind of ability to this extent" just because these damn stick swingers don't use magic 😭

Didn't Garfiel also show he was able to tell how strong an opponent is when he passed Regulus in arc 5? I don't see that mentioned here.

I'm pretty sure that Julius saying anyone could deal with Shamak was false and he was just being humble but I can't find the quote. I mean Elsa wasn't able to dispel it 🤷‍♂️

Also Reid should definitely be mentioned in the aura section and probably others but I can't remember. Well, I'm sure there are plenty of fears missing.

Overall though, this is very good. Just the first paragraph seems off.

Elsa is particularly weak to magic to the degree that she's even wary of Subaru's Shamak iirc. If the Julius quote of him lying exists then this is moot though.

@Zabazab You were talking about the concept of sword and wasn't paying too much attention, then i saw this nonsense

Henceforth, the flash which slashed down all objects in the world, was the culmination, and the long-cherished original desire, of the 『Sword』 and of the 『Sword Moves』.

If Reid's attacks touch you they can't be healed forever, op....

@VortechsTG I didn't list every single instance of every single feat, that is just tedious, Re Zero is a massive series after all. I am sure i missed stuff here and there, but this is just meant to be overview, not an exhaustive list of everything that exists.

Elsa was affected, but she basically ignored it due to her intuition

Clearing the reception room, Subaru and the others fell straight toward the mansion courtyard.

The expected blow from the fall never arrived thanks to an exquisite performance by Frederica, landing on the grass from the second story with Subaru and Petra under her wing. But the cost of the retreat had been unexpectedly high.

“Miss Frederica!!”

Thrown by the landing, Petra raised her voice into a near-shriek as she rolled on the grass. Her gaze was on Frederica, down on one knee in the yard with skewers stuck in her bloody back.

“I…underestimated our opponent…!”

Frederica was making labored breaths as slender skewers rose from her back like a mountain of swords. The skewers were nearly eight inches in length, and more than a few had doubtless reached her internal organs.

Frederica wasn’t the only one who understood their might, for Subaru had gotten a taste as well.

“Ow……! Shit! She’s like Julius: an enemy that Shamak doesn’t work on…!”

“Surely not. She simply threw them past of the cloud of darkness. She has exceptional intuition.”-Volume 11, Chapter 2

Brush off is kinda vague, we saw with Ley he basically like blew away Shamak, same with Julius, with Elsa she doesn't do that, but still gets around Shamak anyway with skill. So not really a contradiction

Yeah Reid's conceptual manipulation is way stronger than it gets credit for- since he manifests the very concept of what a "Sword" is, he slashes down everything for eternity.

Reid basically has what looks like conceptual durability negation and conceptual regen negation(?)... and still couldn't kill Satella.

God, Arc 12 is gonna be peak, I can't wait to see what the Flügel crew were up to.

Yeah I don't expect you to list every one lol. I was just thinking of Reid’s since those are brought up a lot.

All of them are top class warriors though. We also see in aganau if that most witch cultists can't deal with Shamak at all and basically instantly lose to Subaru since they can't deal with it (Speaking of which, Subaru’s profile really needs to be updated...)

Anyway, I found the quote I was looking for.
Q: Elsa was affected by even Subaru’s level of Shamac, but does that mean that Elsa has a weakness to magic? Julius said that there wasn’t a single member of the royal guard that would be affected by Subaru’s Shamac, so does that mean the royal guard has high magic resistance?

A: I’m afraid you won’t be satisfied with my answer, but Elsa is terribly weak against magic. Enough that she takes pains to have anti-magic strategies. Having said that, she really wasn’t fully affected by Subaru’s Shamac. She simply didn’t deliberately charge through where she couldn’t see what was ahead of her. The royal guard are fairly good at using magic, but Julius was expecting a little too much of the people around him. Julius is strict with himself and others.

Elsa QnA

Reid walks up to Satella, cuts her head off with the very concept of a sword, which can't be healed for eternity.

Satella: Doesn't die

Reid:

What this tells me is that Julius has magic resistance. He was expecting all the royal guards to be able to do that, but he was just expecting too much from them.

However it doesn't change the fact that Elsa could still accurately hit Frederica's vitals while under Shamak's effects with intuition, so it doesn't contradict Puck's statement that skill can let you deal with it.

I also don't believe random cultist are as skilled as Elsa. Among cultist there are stronger/more skilled ones, like that one that fought Rem, and badly beat her up in arc 3, but Rem isn't as skilled as Elsa either.

I should definitely remove that Julius statement though, since it's inaccurate.

I wasn't disagreeing with this, just the idea that any knight can deal with it.

I think Rai also quickly shakes off a Shamak from Beatrice, one of the most skilled Yin Magicians in the series.

Q&As are the source of a ridiculous amount of clarification for Re:Zero, like how long Reinhard can stay awake:
Q: Happy Birthday, Reinhard! Also, Happy New Year! A question: If Reinhard tried to pull an all-nighter without sleeping, how many days could he do it?

A: I thought of saying as many days as he wants, but that's too much even for him. I think he could stay up for around a week, but he's sleep like normal after that. It's just, even if you try a surprise attack when he's sleeping, a blessing would wake him up so you can't defeat him.

I haven't really touched the q&a's in depth yet, Re Zero has so much content everywhere.

If you guys want to go through them, and then compile stuff to add/revise, that would be helpful, though i could get to it eventually.

I feel like there is a lack of clarification on Reid. People think its hax feat rather than a skill feat instead of a hax via skill feat

I feel like just saying "it's hax achieved through pure sword-skill" is a pretty easy to grasp concept, no?

If someone can find where it's stated Garfiel is training like Reid, that would be pretty good to put in the blog, since Reid is the Sword Saint not the Fist Saint, and yet fist fighters train like him.

Q: In Sanctuary, I think he was basically training by himself, how did he become that strong?

A: There's a book called "The Legend of Reid Astrea", and in it there's an insane training regimen that Reid supposedly used, and he put that into practice. Incidentally, there's not a single mention in the legend's training regimen of wielding a sword. - Garfiel Birthday Q&A

People keep complaining about the profiles being unclear or incomplete. And with the high tiers that's unavoidable but there are a lot of changes that need to be made at every level. That's exactly why all this matchup spam is a problem.

There are a ton of major characters like Bordeaux, Todd, and Yorna who don't even have profiles as well.
