Ranking Nardo children according to talent

Drop your ranking for all the child prodigies in the verse. For characters like Boruto, you can use him twice, one for actual, and one for potential. Let's make children fight.

1. Minato: Self-explanatory, I feel. Everyone in the verse wanks this guy off, and for good reason. He's had insane records he seemingly casually set in the Chunin Exams. He was praised as an unmatched talent by the Sannin, which would include Orochimaru. He terrorized Iwagakure as a teenager/young adult, and became a Hokage in his early 20s. Pretty much the fastest person to figure out how to counter Kamui. He was lucky that he had the perfect ability to do just that, but still it's very impressive. Emulated the Bijuu Bomb after seeing it once. Honestly, we could be here all day. Minato's just the golden standard for geniuses in the verse, especially in-universe.

2. Itachi: Frankly, it's a toss up between Itachi and Minato for me. Another placement that I feel is pretty self-evident. Just go read his profile's Intelligence section lmao.

3. Gaara: Dude became a Kage at like 15 and broke Minato's FoD record. 'nuff said. Gaara's an insane prodigy.

4. Sasuke: Sasuke was always considered a genius by everyone around him, and he rarely disappointed. Arguably the most skilled character in the entire verse, and I feel like his fights with Deidara and Itachi are great showcases of his brilliance. Also mastered the fire ball jutsu after seeing it once at like.....5 or 7? Crazy stuff.

5. Boruto: Kinda mandatory with the 50,000 times others have called him a prodigy, I guess. I don't feel like he's demonstrated anything that puts him above the peeps above him in terms of sheer brilliance, and his innate potential is kinda hard to gauge given that he's a literal Otsutsuki now, but from what I hear, he had a lot of impressive showings in the anime. I feel like him being here is fair.

6. Naruto: Bit of an honorable mention because while he's not a "traditional genius" like the guys above him, he's definitely one in my books. He's not even a late bloomer like everyone always says, IMO. Dude instantly learned a forbidden Jutsu by reading a scroll, and mastered it to a degree unmatched in the verse's entire history it would seem. And while he's not book smart and doesn't have an intuitive sense for Jutsu and chakra control (at first anyway, he becomes a god in this regard as a teenager), his sheer creativity in combat and when it comes to problem solving makes up for it. Naruto's a genius in my book. And whichever arc you're looking at, he's always in the mix with any of the other "geniuses" present at one point or another.

7. Sakura: Nothing too fancy here. Just sheer intellect and supremely good chakra control that allowed her to eventually keep up with a bunch of heavy hitters. Considering how she has no natural advantages like a Kekkei Genkai or a Hiden, it's honestly impressive how powerful Sakura got. Her mastery over Medical Ninjutsu is also noteworthy, as that's one of the most difficult areas of expertise to master in-verse, and she eclipsed other prodigies in the field like Shizune, and even got to a point where she was comparable to the GOAT Tsunade as a mere teenager. And if ya'll read the novels, you know how ******* smart Sakura actually is.

8. Neji: Another guy who's considered a "genius" in-verse. Honestly, it's still kinda insane that he was able to master Hyuga Hiden techniques on his own, without anyone teaching him at all. Like, that's insane. Neji could easily go higher, but I feel like the others just have way more showings than him, so it's a bit skewed in their favors.

Top 2 prodigies just like they top 2 characters 😎

Damn no Kakashi?
1oafrl.jpg

I always thought he was a part of the top three prodigies in Konoha. Anyways thanks for the justifications. Also what about Orochimaru and the king of wank: shisui? Actually what about Shikamaru? His talent is one dimensional so where would he be placed?

I literally forgot about him lol. I obviously didn't mention absolutely everyone, it's just the people that popped into my head. But yeah, Kakashi can easily make the top 5.

yeah fo sho
Anyways thanks for the justifications.
Yeah np
Also what about Orochimaru
Ehhh, he "belongs" here for sure, but we just don't know much about his childhood or his "come-up" if that makes sense. So hard for me to place him among these guys with way more showings or context if that makes sense. We know of his abilities after he reached his potential, not before.
and the king of wank: shisui?
Yah, can easily make it in that top 10 given that he was even better than Itachi lmao.
Actually what about Shikamaru? His talent is one dimensional so where would he be placed?
Tbh, idk if I'd consider Shika a "prodigy", but at the same time.....it's kinda hard to say he isn't given his sheer intellect. He's not particularly skilled or powerful, but his sheer ability to strategize is kinda nutty so idk lol.

Maybe I should make a separate thread just for intellect and people of all ages, later. That way even Hiruzen can get some action.

I'm curious. Would this list change if Boruto was born during wartime?

I'm curious. Would this list change if Boruto was born during wartime?
People may disagree, but he could easily become #1.

When you take into account his potential and current level in peaceful times, it shouldn't be hard to consider how strong he'd be if he HAD to train and fight due to war. We see Boruto train and get stronger during the Kara Actuation Arc, where he lost against Deepa and came back and learned Compression Rasengan in a few days.

He learned Wind Style just by being taught by Mitsuki, learned Water Style on his own, and practiced Lighting Style with Sasuke, all during easier times. He knew 3 Styles in the Academy. And was considered Chunin level in terms of skill at the age of 9 years old. He hardly trained as a kid in the Academy, because everything was so easy for him. Getting high praise from numerous high level ninja like Kakashi, Shino, Sasuke, Jiraiya, Naruto etc etc is no joke. As a genin he knows two other variants of the Rasengan by using Lightning and Wind Style, easily surpassing his dad and arguably comparable to Minato in terms of intellect. I could go on and on but I'm hungry as ****, and don't really want to glaze Boruto's skills more than I need to, I'm sure you get the point.

People love to say "muh Karma" and say that Boruto isn't actually all that, but they're just being ignorant.

Sarada should be much higher imo

She's basically an upgraded kid Sasuke

Better usage of the sharigan than Sasuke was at her age (adept at genjutsu too)

Add that to the fact that Sasuke outrightly stated she was more skilled than he was at her age

Boruto should be quite above both Naruto and Sasuke and arguably only below goons like itachi, kakashi and Minato

Learned Rasengan in like 3 days and has developed like a million variants of it

Top end taijutsu skills too

Book smart also (had a perfect score in the written Chunin Exam test)

His usage of shadow clones is way more impressive than whatever Naruto did before pain arc (Check out the Aoi Fight)

Multiple nature transformations

Adept at shurikenjutsu

Et cetera

Honorable mention

Might Guy
Was good enough to graduate from the academy at 7 years old

Sarada is more skilled than Kid Sasuke yes, but I wouldn't say she's more skilled than Teen Sasuke, which I also took into account.

That's fair
Sasuke got an insane buff in every stat that konoha thought he was doping

Orochimaru who was a genius in his own right admitted he pales to Sasuke

He's just built different

Sarada is more skilled than Kid Sasuke yes, but I wouldn't say she's more skilled than Teen Sasuke, which I also took into account.
Yeah, same here. I took their teen selves into account, and even young adult versions in cases like Minato cause becoming a Kage in your 20s is still nuts no matter what. And all the other characters that were mentioned doing the things they did as like 15 to 17 year olds is still very noteworthy imo.

Sasuke: Sasuke was always considered a genius by everyone around him, and he rarely disappointed. Arguably the most skilled character in the entire verse, and I feel like his fights with Deidara and Itachi are great showcases of his brilliance. Facts 🔥 I still go back and watch/read the deidara fight to remind myself how insanely high iq that fight was, for both sasuke and deidara

i should prob mention im missing a ton of heavy hitters solely because of my need to restrict the list to a Top 5 and the fact that the franchise straight up has so many geniuses , im also looking at this holistically given that theres a few characters that would prob bulldoze everyone on this list in one or two specific fields but may not in others.

Even Obito
I assume it's because they lived in a war era
Konoha needed a lot of soldiers, so they made the kids graduate very early
This is true. I'm pretty sure this is a big part of it.

But another thing is that Guy isn't incapable of using ninjutsu like Lee. He can. He just chose to become a Taijutsu specialist because that was an area in which he excelled and could compete with Kakashi in. Kakashi eclipsed him in those other categories.

Why is Minato considered such a genius? Yeah yeah he invented the rasengan and learned FTG but like, that's not really all that impressive compared to others.

Because he just has some of the most insane natural talent seen in the verse.

He set insane records in the Chunin Exams that people were competing with for literally decades.
He mastered a Jutsu like the Flying Raijin, which is very difficult to perform by your lonesome, and even improved upon it.
He was able to learn Sealing Jutsu on pat with Hashirama, who's capable of easily suppressing Bijū all the way up to the Ten Tails. This is another insane feat in-verse, btw.
He emulated the Bijū bomb after seeing it once, which is something that takes Jinchuriki a long time to master, even if they're getting help from their Bijū.
He figured out a viable counter to Kamui after deducing many of its mechanics, having only briefly encountered it twice that night. Even bona-fide geniuses like Kakashi took way longer to figure it out, and keep in mind that Kakashi literally had Kamui's other half 💀
He was a major contributor to Konoha's win in the 3rd Shinobi World War.
Became Hokage in his early 20s, making him the youngest Hokage I believe.
And then you have all of the elite people calling him a peerless genius and whatnot. Pretty much zero mention of Minato exists without it being prefaced with the fact that he's a great genius.

Didn't it get beaten by Gaara? The intellectual part has a set maximum of 100% and the forest scroll search part is pretty luck based so that doesn't say that much.
He mastered a Jutsu like the Flying Raijin, which is very difficult to perform by your lonesome, and even improved upon it.
Uhm, sure? The most wet know is that basic jonin failed to master it by themselves which isn't really that much.
He was able to learn Sealing Jutsu on pat with Hashirama, who's capable of easily suppressing Bijū all the way up to the Ten Tails. This is another insane feat in-verse, btw.
Again, okay? He was taught by an Uzumaki and still couldn't fully seal Kurama without killing himself so idk man.
He emulated the Bijū bomb after seeing it once, which is something that takes Jinchuriki a long time to master, even if they're getting help from their Bijū.
As I've said, cool, but that's not all that big. Conceptually it's just spinning chakra. And it did take him 3 years.
Neji could reverse engineer complex techniques like 64 palms and kaiten despite them being actively kept secret from him. Sasuke invented Kirin at age 16 or younger in less than 3 years, Kakashi invented purple lightning less than a year after the war, Naruto invented and perfected the rasen shuriken in like a week, and don't even get me started on Tobiramas inventions.
It's obviously a prodigy level feat but it's not super uncommon in the verse.
He figured out a viable counter to Kamui after deducing many of its mechanics, having only briefly encountered it twice that night. Even bona-fide geniuses like Kakashi took way longer to figure it out, and keep in mind that Kakashi literally had Kamui's other half 💀.
No? First of all, Obitos kamui was quite different as a teen than as an adult. As an adult it's automatic. We literally see them try the very same trick on adult Obito that Minato used TWICE and it no longer works because kamui just activates. And Kakashis kamui works COMPLETELY differently than Obitos and he only found out they share the same dimension late in the fight.
He was a major contributor to Konoha's win in the 3rd Shinobi World War.
Uhm, sure? Idk how does that make you talented, that's kinda just being strong I think.
Became Hokage in his early 20s, making him the youngest Hokage I believe.
I don’t think his age was revealed by again, that doesn't really make him impressive. Just means the competition was ass. Which is pretty obvious. Hiruzen wanted to retire, Jiraya didn't want to be hokage, Tsunade was a gambling addict, Orochimaru was a weirdo, Kakashi was a child, and nobody else relevant lived in the village (or was of legal drinking age even in Germany).
And then you have all of the elite people calling him a peerless genius and whatnot. Pretty much zero mention of Minato exists without it being prefaced with the fact that he's a great genius.
Such as? I only remember Jiraya saying a talent like that comes once in a decade, but Jiraya also thought he can square up with Itachi and Kisame at once so I'm not taking his knowledge on talented people around the world as relevant 💀

I'm not saying Minato is not a top tier prodigy. But he's not nearly as impressive as people make him out to be.

So this is my tentative list of prodigies in Naruto/Boruto verse. Before we proceed I'd like to establish the definition of a prodigy.
"a highly talented child or youth", - Merriam Webster
Real life prodigies are usually those that have demonstrated exceptional talent in at least one domain. However I would like to differentiate between innate talent and acquired skill here. A high level of skill can be acquired through hard work and therefore can't be considered as talent. Which is why I will not be including Rock Lee and Might Guy in this list even though they are in the top 0.01% in their respective domain skill-wise. This is supported by the fact that talent is usually defined as a natural or innate aptitude.

1. Minato: Highest recorded chunin exams written test score. Youngest Hokage ever in a village where the Hokage is elected. Created a complicated Jutsu like the Rasengan, and mastered the FTG which only three people have ever performed singlehandedly. Mastered Sage Mode. Graduated at 10 years of age. Quickly deduced a counter to Obito's Kamui. Pretty stacked resume overall.

2. Itachi: Second highest recorded chunin exams written test score. Regarded as having the thought process of a Hokage at the ripe age of 7. Graduated academy at 7 and became a chunin at 10. Has shown considerable deductive reasoning skils in his successful attempts at countering Jutsus. Has shown considerable strategizing and planning skills as he manipulated Danzo, Konoha, Akatsuki, Sasuke, Naruto, etc. for a prolonged period of time at a very young age. Pretty stacked resume here as well.

3. Boruto: Perfect academy written test score without studying. Was regarded as chunin level at the age of 11 by Kakashi. Subconsciously added nature release to rasengan, something that Kakashi could not do even as a jonin. Could use multi shadow clone jutsu before he entered academy. Has three chakra natures, two of which he knew when he started academy. Added two of those chakra natures successfuly to his rasengan. Fastest person to ever learn and master rasengan. Has shown considerable proficiency in deductive reasoning and strategizing/tactics, albeit some of these feats are in fillers. Spoiler alert: he has learned FTG. Overall should be above Jonin Kakashi, both at the age of 12. The only reason behind him not being at the top of this list is his own casual nature.

4. Kakashi: Yougest academy graduate (5), chunin (6), possibly Jonin (12)(could be shisui at 11). Has shown remarkable deductive reasoning skills not limited to, figuring out kamui and Tobi's identity. Figured out a training plan for Naruto. Has shown considerable proficiency in tactics and was regarded as being smarter than Shikamaru by Naruto (doubtful). Became an anbu by 13. Copied over a 1000 jutsus, albeit using a sharingan. But it is still something no Uchiha has done. Absolute GOAT at speedrunning through the ranks.

5. Shisui: Another possible speedrunning monster. Best at body flicker. Was regarded as strongest Uchiha by Danzo. Comparable genius to Itachi. However he lacks screen time and therefore there is not much to address here.

6. Shikamaru: Held back by his laziness (literally me), he is by far regarded as one of the smartest persons in the verse in terms of raw IQ (over 9000 200). He has shown by far the most elaborate tactics anyone has come up with mid fight. He is arguably the smartest on this list in terms of raw IQ but his talent is pretty one dimensional and therefore he is 6th on this list.

7. Sasuke: Should be obvious to anybody who has watched the show. Has been stated to be analytical by multiple skilled shinobi not limited to Minato. Learned chidori at a young age. Exceled in the academy and has been considered a genius by Orochimaru (a genius himself).

8. Sarada: She is regarded by Sasuke to be more talented than him at the same age. Learned chidori at a young age. Hopefully will surpass her father in feats soon.

9. Neji: Genius Hyuga who is self taught in the most advanced Hyuga techniques that even some adult Hyuga can't perform. Was the favorite to win the chunin exams.

10. Kid Amado: Just kidding. He would have been at the top.

9. Neji: Genius Hyuga who is self taught in the most advanced Hyuga techniques that even some adult Hyuga can't perform. Was the favorite to win the chunin exams.
Ignore the Minato on top for being slightly better in elementary school than others, the Neji slander is wild 😪

Anyway I think you can't really put 1 person over the other that easily. 1 person could be god tier in terms of taijutsu talent while someone else could suck at taijutsu but be equally talented in genjutsu. So a tiering system seems more appropriate.

In no specific order:
S tier: Itachi, Minato, Naruto, Sasuke, Kakashi, Neji, Boruto, Orochimaru.

A tier: Sarada, Shisui ig (what did he even do), Sakura, Hinata, Shikamaru, rest of the sanin probably.

B tier: almost everyone else who's relevant

I'm definitely forgetting people here ngl.

Yes. Neji slander is wild. It's just that Kishimoto didn't help with him ignoring Hyuga and Byakugan altogether. He's a genius in universe fr.
Neji was held back by being from the side branch but he had ridiculous talent feats and was stated to be the greatest genius in the history of the Hyuga clan. Which is a pretty elite clan. He's definitely a top dog in skill

Naruto too high. But agree with the rest. I'm interested in your justification for Orochimaru. Because we barely know anything about his childhood.

Naruto is underrated af. His unpredictability and BIQ are actually insane, and he invented an S rank jutsu in like a week and mastered sage mode and frog kata in a week as well.

As for Orochimaru I assume he didn't become a bigger talent in his 50ties than he was as a kid, and as an adult Hiruzen was glazing his talent HARD. Same Hiruzen more talented than Tobirama who invented FTG, edo tensei, shadow clones, etc.

He might be underrated but I wouldn't call him a prodigy. He's talented for sure. His unpredictability and BIQ are highly facilitated by his insane chakra. Unlike in shikamaru's case where he needs to work around his disadvantages. Btw which invention are you talking about. If it's rasenshuriken, then it's again highly aided by his chakra pool. That said he's definitely talented and not the idiot people think he is.

Yeah that's true. I didn't put him because then I'd have to put every adult who is a genius but we didn't see their childhood, for example Tobirama. But yeah, he could have been a prodigy for sure.

No he's 100% a prodigy. His chakra pool is inherently a part of his "talent". Just compare him to Minato lol.
Minato invented the rasengan in 3 year. Naruto invented the rasen shuriken (perfected version of the rasengan) without any blueprint like tbbs in a week.
Minato mastered sage mode in an unknown amount of time, Naruto did it in a week better than Minato (both according to Minato and Fukasaku).
Minato outsmarted kid Obito and his kamui. Naruto was outsmarting gods with millennia of experience.
His talent in regards to ninjutsu, taijutsu, senjutsu, and his BIQ are definitely prodigious.
