Its not all slice of life wholesome comedy sunshine and rainbows all the time. At times, it can go pretty dark.

EDIT: Teen pregnancy is being foreshadowed, but it may be a joke.

Accuse me of lying and false advertising, will you? Have at thee then. Spoiler alert.

Shirogane's mother divorced his dad and took custody of his sister, at least for some time. When she was leaving, she essentially didn't take him along too because he was a "worthless child". That rejection has stuck with him since, and he works hard enough to even hurt his health. Every failure reminds him of that rejection so he absolutely does not wish to fail at any cost.

On Kaguya's side, she has a dead mother and family that couldn't care less about her which makes her thirst for familial love. Her father and brothers pretty much ignore her until they have need of her. They don't even remember her birthday ffs. She has no real independance and her every action is monitored. She sees the prospective romance as one of the few ways she can still have some independance over. She can't fail the romance otherwise she will have nowhere else to go and will inevitably be used as a pawn and married off to someone.

Ishigami was bullied in middle school due to bad rumours spread by a popular dude, causing him to become a shut-in. The dude's girlfriend was Ishigami's crush and Ishigami discovered that the dude was cheating on her. He confronts the dude and is provoked into hitting him, which becomes known to everyone. The dude spreads it that Ishigami was jealous of him for having her as a girlfriend and was acting out, causing him to be hated and ostracised by everyone since they'd sooner believe the popular guy than him. He has since developed issues trusting people. After he gets rejected after confessing to Tsubame, he goes and trips accidentally and is about to fall down some stairs. And this is his inner monologue at that moment.

Iino has struggles with self-worth and might have a fetish to be domestically abused.

Tsubame was cheated upon and has developed a distrust for romantic relationships. When Ishigami confesses to her, she offers him pity sex since she thinks that's the kind thing to do.

I should probably stop.
