Everyone did. Same with Dragon Ball. Heck, I didn't even know what anime was untilmy friend told me what it and manga was back in like, 08, and even then I didn't really understand it until I watched Sora no Otoshimoto, and thought not only Pokemon and Dragon Ball, but Digimon, Yu Gi Oh, Kirby, and the entire HST were western shows.

Well when I watched Tonnami as I kid I didn't really think of it as anything different just another block so must have that effect
