Dota 2 Discussion Thread

Here's the cut Artifact card art I was talking about, in case any of you wants to see it. I'd say it's a big lore dump for a game with sparse but interesting lore.

I made an incomplete draft that would hopefully be much better than the current Dota 2 verse page. Also I want to rename the verse to Dota 2 since Valve meant for it to be a title rather than an acronym. Input is appreciated.

Guys

I've been rewatching the animated series lately and I think my faith in tier 2 ratings is a lot higher. After listening to what Slyvion (DK's humanoid dragon form) said to Kaden when they first met in Dragonhold, all the Eldwurms should have Self-Destruction since their deaths would cause spacetime, "the Manifold forms", "pillars of order and chaos" to dissolve which would cause the destruction of endless universes "with no hope of regeneration". Of course this would 2-A but on a higher scale, including the ability to affect Type 1 Nonexistence Physiology (absence of nothingness statement from Slyvion)

I'm not sure if the Eldwurms should have Abstract Existence Type 1 or 2, or maybe both. Type 1 is when you exist as an abstraction, but Type 2 is when you simply embody an abstraction like a physical avatar. My reasoning for Type 1 is because Terrorblade needed their souls to reshape the universe in his image, which may fit with the wiki's definition:

"...affecting them requires the ability to affect directly the abstraction itself, because eventual physical manifestations are merely avatars."

Terrorblade was going to control all aspects of reality, like the four classical elements and the four fundamental forces, so that he can create a new universe. Not to mention that WoG stated somewhere in his Twitter that they are literally the forces themselves. However, I have never seen a profile that has had both types of AE at once, so I'm not sure if the Eldwurms need only one type or if they can have two for their physical avatars (which is type 2) and their essential forms (which is type 1). This would affect Terrorblade's anime version too, which might grant him Type 3 Conceptual Manipulation once he has all of their souls. Thoughts on this one?

i was actually planning to bump the thread until i saw this
The tier 2 feats seem pretty legitimate to me. Not sure about the abstract existence stuff, though. I do think there's a character on the wiki who has both types and I'll see if I can find them.

Not just tier 2 feats btw, I mentioned that already in another post. I meant to add 2-A self-destruction since their death would cause a catastrophic event that would destroy the infinite multiverse. a bunch of vague concepts, and nothingness itself.

Nemestice event coming soon. Based on what I've heard from others and from my own quick research, this might be the confirmation that Spectre = PA. I still doubt if Valve ever meant to make these characters one and the same rather than seeing Slacks' headcanon and just confirming it outright for fanservice. Either way I hope it's not too lore breaking and they actually put some effort into linking these characters together rather than just taking Slacks' ideas outright.

On the other hand, if this indeed something to do with Spectre = PA, this is what I think it might be. We might see Oracle's return seeing how he's related to both of them lorewise (and that means we get to hear G-Man's VA!!!!111) and this might be the true end of Spectre PA's contract. Besides the Nemesis Contract reference, they added the affix -stice, which originates from the Latin word for "stop" or "end". Get what I'm saying?

I didn't know Oracle and G-Man had the same voice actor, what's with the guy and playing wrinkly and presumably alien dudes who speak in a weird tone and can do wacky dimensional stuff?
atleast best girl will possibly be confirmed to be PA
I meant to add 2-A self-destruction
Yea, I agree with that. You could also just classify it as "2-A with Enviromental Destruction" as there are a few chars on the wiki who are tier 2 or 1 because of their self-destruction ability that have the same thing written on their profile IIRC. I also agree with the NEP type 1 stuff.

Aaaand the Nemestice update is out now, and the cinematic is... interesting to say the least. atleast now i have more proof that all the heroes scale to one another

There's no way Hoodwink can beat Arc Warden, let alone a clone of him lol

From what I've read, it seems that "Nemestice" is the name of a shard from the Mad Moon that wasn't corrupted by both Ancients. The shards also contained the power that Zet used to seal both Ancients into the Mad Moon. Based on the cinematic trailer, it seems that Zet is collecting these shards to regain his old power.

And it just so happens that a ******* squirrel that managed to somehow restrain his other self also managed to get one of the shards in her hands, fun. Atleast we got a new persona, but said persona looks too Disney-like for me. I guess they tried to convert anime Davion into a 3D model or something? I dunno.

Spectre lore is awesome too, a bit relieved that it isn't something to do with PA because that would be lore shattering

I've read the lore of the new immortal items btw, nothing much interesting in terms of powerscaling and such, but it seems that Kaldr has some passive form of madness hax

We'll probably get more lore stuff from the voicelines of Davion's persona and Spectre, considering that Spectre's arcana will have over five-hundred voicelines. I also wouldn't raise my hopes up about her not being PA, considering that her headgear looks oddly familiar, plus the fact you can unlock an alternate style for the arcana called Phantom Ascension.

Yeah true lol

Well Valve has been outsourcing stuff lately so I can see why the art style is vastly different.

'tis fine.

Apparently, this won't be the only battle pass this year. I know Valve cares about Dota more than any of their other games, but I think they're going a bit too overboard this time around.

Speaking of personas and arcanas, almost all of our Dota 2 profiles feature a render of the hero wearing whichever item they're most likely carrying around with them canonicaly, but what about heroes that have arcanas but also happen to be carrying other stuff with them? Axe canonically owns perfect and working replicas of a few in-game items, yet timeline-wise he's also in his 'Axe Unleashed' set at the moment, so do we use a render of Axe Unleashed, artwork of what Axe looks like most of the time, or "normal" Axe but with all the stuff he has?

Interesting. I'm not invested in the game in terms of gameplay and whatnot but I hope that means more meaningful lore.

I think a render of their base outfit is fine. We can still use stuff like arcana and immortal sets in the second and third tabber after the base outfit.

but it has the best gameplay compared to all the other mobas bro!!!
As in, we'll just have those tabs for aesthetic purposes, right? Obviously, I'm not saying that Phantom Assassin should have her time-space stuff in her base, nor should Jugg have his dragon summoning stuff in base either. I'm talking more-so about Io and other similar heroes.

Rewatched the Nemestice trailer again and I just realized that Arc Warden (without the stone's powers yet) came out unscathed from a Nemestice stone crashing down on him, but he and his clone somehow got hurt by Hoodwink's acorns. Mind you the meteor was powerful enough to create a shockwave that knocked Hoodwink back.

Wack.
I sure do love it when a video game jumpscares me when I boot it up. Atleast Spectre's arcana is out now, and we have some neat powerscaling stuff already.

...as in, she has new abilities for her arcana. Though, considering that this is a pretty important event lore-wise that also happens to feature Arc Warden, we'll likely get a comic starring Spectre and her cursed armor, so maybe we will get some feats.

Cool. Besides some form of soul absorption as seen in her arcana, what other kind of powers does she have?

Oh and does DK's persona have anything interesting that could connect it to the games? Lately I've been thinking of Dragon's Blood as a semi-canon spinoff since it uses a few aspects of lore from the games, but overall its world building is different.

Speaking of DK, I've found another tier 8 feat that the low tiers can scale to, and it's a feat that's performed by him. The in-game description for his dragon breath ability literally states that Davion is infamous for using this ability to reduce a few knights to mere crisps.
Knight Davion's breath has become that of the mighty Eldwurm Slyrak, remembered for burning numerous other knights to a crisp.

...speaking of the tier 8 stuff, where does Oracle's 8-A+ attack potency come from, again? It looks like Phantom Assassin doesn't have a profile anymore, nor could I find a calc for that feat.

Dunno about that, the description itself is vague as we don't see the results, I do recall some species of dragons in Dota 2 being able to melt steel in their bodies but that's about it.

8-A+ comes from a Reaver calc and Invoker's meatball. Can't seem to link it right now but if you look up Axe's and Invoker's profiles, you'll see it.

i blame half-life for the fact that almost every valve game is vague as **** when talking about their lore So it's the same situation as Kunkka's torrent? Damn. Well, about his persona...
While Spectre's arcana has over 500 voicelines, Davion's persona has OVER 1200+ voicelines. There's likely plenty of lore stuff that we can get from his quotes alone, maybe even some powerscaling stuff if he mentions some notable things a character has done.

Lol, every Valve game has super vague lore, just take a look at the profiles of every Valve game in this wiki.

I just hope that out of those 500-1200+ voicelines, we might actually get some form of power scaling because right now Dota profiles need some serious help.

I'll just wait for someone to inevitably upload all of those voicelines to youtube or the gamepedia, since the limited edition arcanas and personas are pretty expensive.

You can still test them out, but you can only do it on a small map that doesn't have everything on it.

That's actually enough to hear what they have to say, but I think waiting on gamepedia or some channel on YouTube is better. But I'd like to hear at least a bit of lore that they have.

Also, most new cosmetics have different sets of monologues when you repeatedly click on them, so that's something. Hero responses reveal a lot of lore too, but that's probably the part where we'd rather wait for it to be uploaded somewhere in gamepedia or YouTube.

Huh, dunno why the site didn't alert me about the last message.

I think this can actually be explained. The event straight up says that the Nemestice stones amp your stats and what-not, and it seemed like the stone was amping Zet before the meteor showed up.
Also, since the event is canon, and it seems like almost all of the heroes are participating in it, they should get electricity manipulation with preparation since with enough embercharges they'll actually be able to shock their opponents.

We don't see Zet imbued with its powers yet when it crashed down on him. The video makes a clear visual difference between normal Zet and empowered Zet

Well maybe Hoodwink might be more powerful than we thought since she's very familiar with Gleipnir, a chain forged by impossible means. Her voice lines imply that Fenrir is a thing in Dota 2 (which might be the dog related hero that Mars and Zeus have been talking about in their unused voice lines)

About canon events, Valve only chooses a certain amount of heroes to be considered as canon. The Siltbreaker event involved Witch Doctor, Sven, Windranger, and Drow Ranger as shown in the comics and Arcana WR's voice lines.

Even before her reveal (Valve hid secret stuff in their cinematics and other things that showed Hoodwink doing something months before she was playable) Valve seemed to have this weird obsession with trying to make her a very important lore figure. I don't see why would you choose a character that's basically the most annoying **** Windranger but a hippie squirrel, when there's a much cooler furry character with neat lore whose cousins are literally the elemental guys.

Ah Brewmaster, I feel like he's the perfect blend of a mundane and arcane character. He has interesting lore too that connects with a bunch of characters, including Elder Titan even if it's just a very thin connection.

I doubt they'd make him relevant to the lore anytime soon, considering he's like... the least picked hero in the entire game.
