From what I understand, it means Creature Commandos will be the first thing that will establish a proper DCU and until that, everything else is just a bunch of DC products and we shouldn't make theories

i think a reason why some people might be confused at this (outside of DC films being...what they are) is because Gunn said Blue Beetle could be part of his DCU a long time ago and now he's saying this. Combine that with Warner being well, Warner and fan theories, you can see why it's confusing

Gunn said Blue Beetle would be the first DCU character, which just means Xolo’s Blue Beetle will be part of the DCU, but the movie itself isn’t canon.

Honestly I don’t see why he wouldn’t make the movie canon to the DCU, it’s a pretty decent origin and could very easily fit into a new continuity even though it was originally intended for the DCEU.
