Yeah, that would be a massive downgrade wouldn't it? Because not only are they slower than real lightning, is the light used even real now?

In the case of the light being real or not, we directly have lightspeed statements from the characters at the beginning of the series. Unless we're considering this a retcon of that somehow, what seems more likely to happen is that not everyone is FTL anymore.

But FTL is still preserved for certain characters.

I mean, Luck has feats of keeping up with Vetto and Asta.

Also in Luck's case, his true magic just made him become Lightning, that doesn't mean he had the speed of a lightning

Looking at that, did the Viz translation even say that it's "true" lighting? What does that even mean??

@Milly, "True Lightning" as in, it is like real lightning instead of fake magic lightning.

It's entirely possible that he also used to runes to increase the speed of the magic, he said the more runes you cast the stronger the spell is.

No the series is quite blatant about it ;"True Magic" creates real lightning. That's what we're told almost verbatim

Luck explicitly says "Get faster" so either he's amping himself with true lightning or he's telling his lightning to get faster. Gajah did say you can give simple commands to magic if you have an array.

And the series also said you can command your magic. Gaja used True lightning magic but still gave the command "Grow bigger", here Luck used True lightning magic but still commanded the spell to get faster.

And even if it was only lightning speed, that would be an inconsistency since Luck kept up with Asta and Vetto, dodging their attacks at point-blank range

Although that begs the question of what even is the point of true magic? Does it grant greater control? Cause we've already seen characters like Nozel have great control of an element without (as far as we know) having 'true' magic and if Luck's lightning is already faster than the real thing and characters can just blatantly amp themselves to inhuman degrees and potentially light speed or more what's the point of true lightning?

@Insert True Magic was stated to draw the nature's mana while normal spells use your inner magic (except Mana Zone)

I think it's better to wait full explanations of True Magic before doing anything.

And I would like to point out, that in the world of Black Clover, while not directly stated, it seems more likely that phenomenons like lightning are magic done by nature. Since it's supposed to be nature's mana that's being used in these instances and since apparently they're making true lightning that seems to correlate lighting to naturally be magical in this world.

Though that's just what I'm assuming from what we've been shown.

In the end I don't think it makes much difference. The FTL characters were being called that as well as having feats to scale. And Luch was Buffing him with even the "real" magic, and he was already FTL for fighting FTL people.
