So, a while ago Weekly and I had a chat on Aura, and I somehow actually agreed with him on the whole 'healthbar' thing.

I think we've been disagreeing with him on this mainly because of the phrasing, and how Aura functions is sort of weird with how we treat stuff like chip damage. Characters taking hits from stronger characters is a thing that is prolific in the show (Weekly can list some examples). World of Remnant mentions how the characters have a "reserve" of Aura, that depletes with attacks. It's also been compared to sheilds from Halo from Word of God in terms of mechanics and frequently represented as a sort of "life bar" (which is one of the more poor examples but eh).

So, I think Aura has something like a "total durability" that can let them take one or two hits from stronger characters. Now, this doesn't change how Aura would function on any of our current threads; many hits will still break it as each hit would deplete a character's "reserve" of aura, however this would allow some characters to take higher tiered attacks one before their Aura shatters.

For example, the main cast from Vol 4-5 would have 8-B dura with their Aura, but said aura can be broken with multiple hits from other High 8-Cs. Similarly the Vol 1-3 cast would have High 8-C with aura, but it can be broken with multiple hits from 8-Cs and 8-C+s.

So, nothing much really changes (no battles should be really removed), but we note that Aura has a total durability of High 8-C/8-B for some characters, and for others who have no 'taking hits from higher tiered characters' we just list it as "higher with Aura" on their dura.

Note that I am still very firm on the Maidens not scaling to anyone beneath them, and there should be no 8-Bs in the verse who can survive attacks from the Tier 7s.

Sounds like the pain that is handling SAO Tabletop durability scal-

..... Just one of these days I'd like to be completely free of bringing up FC/OC forkery

Anyways, I agree.

I agree very much with this. It should be noted that MUCH more powerful hits can cut right through aura like how Adam did.

Also very important to note is that not all characters have the same amount of aura in reserves. Like how Pyrrha mentions that Jaune has a larger amount of aura than most do.

I was always confused why Aura wasn't like this on the wiki since it seemed pretty cut and dry in the show. I agree with this.

Is that just kinda your own theory or did I miss some implication of that?

I mean look at any of his fights. Any scene where he's used his sword against someone. Blake, Yang, Sienna, even those humans in his volume 6 trailer, all of his attacks have gone right through all of their aura

He is also kinda shown to be extremely strong, but I can see that.

Really there's no way to tell between the two

Yeah but Sienna was depicted as being at least comparable to him and unlike Yang and Blake there's no way to help argue that her aura was weakened beforehand

I'd rather wait until he inevitably shows up in Volume 6 and gets some proper fights before we make that call.

That said the opinions on here seem to all be positive so far so I'll give this a couple of days and maybe start implementing.

Yeah, that could be a possibility.

To be fair though, strong enough attacks go straight through Aura (See Cinder impaling Weiss), so Adam could just be ridicously powerful.

Where was that stated? Because that would make Adam stupidly strong if he's overpowering all those people's aura with one hit

Aura needs to be turned on to work as explained in Volume 5 hence why Adam killed Sienna. She didn't have it on because she was surprised.

So Adam one-shots baseline High 8-Cs, or he's just 8-B as some people have suggested.

No only with his semblance that's all. He amps himself and oneshots. The Spider Drone from the Black Trailer took hits with no problem from Blake and Adam (I think Adam hit it too?). It was only when Adam absorbed a substantial amount that he completely annhialated it.

Ok so that definitely means that the gap between his base and his semblance is massive

Which obviously we all knew....

Pretty sure the changes were accepted so I'll add them to the pages.

Sure, I guess.

I'm also adding pictures to the notable attacks parts of the pages for flair.

How about Yang? She's already got the durability enhancement with her semblance so how do you all want to handle that?

Think of it like aura being HP, and her stat amp increasing DEF in a videogame.

The latter makes her take less damage, while the former allows her to take a set amount of damage regardless of durability.

So if she has 10 "DEF" and 100 "HP", and an attack has 100 "ATK", it takes down 90 "HP".

If her "DEF" increases, the damage decreases, but her "HP" is unaffected.

I know next to nothing about RWBY but this seems alright, It's not outrageous in my opinion.

Does anyone have a timestamp of when Vernal attacked Ruby? Because unless it actually happened, this line: " Her aura can take a few hits from characters such as Vernal " seems kinda speculative.

Also, why does Qrow's AP justification say he should be superior to Penny? When was that stated in the show?

Nico-v11 said:
The Penny with Qrow thing I assume has to do with her being High 8-C and him being 8-B
Then don't the tiers speak for themselves? It's redundant to put it in the justifications.

If anyone has a problem with removing that line I'll make a revision thread for it where we can discuss it.
