DEATH BATTLE! Discussion Thread (All-time Death Battle Spoilers Alert)

So the reason this was 30 mins was due to 3 ads huh :V

Yeah it was good, but maybe not thaaat good. Felt bit basic in choreography. Oh well, like an 8 or sth.

With that said...

Good ******* riddance.

Everyone knew Yugi stomps. Hell, in another scenario I would feel pity for Ash. But good god I saw you Ash fans. Your arguments were HORRENDIOUS UNMITIGATED GARBAGE. Everyone treated Ash was a jobber in old net times, but goooood griiiiieeeeef you guys earned this L for your shit. You completely buried yourself on one of the worst wank Ive seen, and Ive seen DB Capeshit. Get out of my ******* sight you biggest frauds of modern DB. Smell ya never Ashy boys.

Well Yugibros, you played a good game, and a fun one at that! Loved the DB and yeah, the result was kinda obvious, so I’ve gotta free with the verdict. At least it took the three Gods of Egypt and creator of the multiverse to take Ash down for good; if that’s not a respectful end, I don’t know what is.

Only bad thing is that Weekly is going to be even more insufferable than usual.

It’s really funny Ash’s wincons are so bad he actually has to pray to god for win
So what I got from the black boxes and blogs is YGO anime/manga cosmology > Pokémon anime cosmology and if peeps want to give Ash the full extended lore cosmology scaling from the games via Masters Ex well then Yugi/Atem would get the same via Duel Links and the results wouldn't change, where Ash doesn't even scale to the full cosmology of his verse while Yugi/Atem actually do scale to the full extent of the cosmology of their verse and that's not factoring the powers, abilities, tactics, etc.

Tl;dr: No game lore for either means, the Pokémon anime is a weaker and smaller verse (that Ash doesn't fully scale to) than the YGO anime/manga (that Yugi/Atem do fully scale too). Game lore only increases the scope but doesn't change the results.

I'm not salty that Ash lost, but I was expecting a much, much bigger and better final blow.
"And then Yugi used Magic Cylinder and won, the end." was such a huge anti-climax.
Was hoping they'd have Gengar get taken out by the Infinite Kuribohs going down his mouth. Wonder if they didn't do that because it would be too similar to how G-Max Gengar gets taken out in the Terminal Montage video.
and it ended up being a braindead army fight, like a 5 year old wrote it.

"But how else was this supposed to be huh smarty pants"

Maybe include some actual strategy? Figuring out your opponents weaknesses, analyzing, and coming out with tricks and gameplans? Like how both characters actually function. But nope! stuff happens and then stuff happens!

It's amazing how easily impressed DB fans are
Please don’t start ******** on the episode now (even though you all are completely correct), I don’t want my feelings on the episode to sour immediately like with Kratosura or Gioker. I just want to convince myself it is peak a little while longer.

So... Did anyone noticed they leaked Ichigo?
the two swords at the end of the last clip are ichigos shikai swords
Wonder how badly they’ll fumble Bleach this time. Shit, I ain’t even a fan and I’m annoyed with how much they sold Ichigo and Aizen short both episodes and got basic information completely ******* wrong.

Its either Yoh from Shaman King or Yusuke. And its looks like the Sonic series is coming back, because someone mentioned on reddit that saw infinite cubes from Sonic forces in one of the teasers.

Ash supporters have been and will continue to be absolutely insufferable, they deserve this.

Pokémon fans also deserve the level of quality they have been getting in their games for being bootlicking slop eaters.

I am not sorry.

I'm glad my GOAT is back for another round!

Death Battle got their shit messed up after TYBW additions destroyed all their theories and skepticism. Now, the only thing I wonder is how they gonna scale either of them.

Genuinely? I really didn't care for the action...a lot of it felt weightless where clashes and movement didn't carry anything behind the attacks...like Pikachu being blocked by Dark Magician's staff? Felt so limp...

I'm not sure I'd rank this obe particularly high, it was structured a lot like how people compare Bowser V Eggman, but it really pales as an army battle. Wish I was more impressed but I'm just not...

at least our series isint dead in the dirt

Aaaaand there it is. "You're objectively wrong to enjoy the thing I currently hate, it deserves the worst, you deserve the worst, the agenda matters more than anything"

Keep it classy Death Battle thread, its only the fandoms you don't like that are the 'insufferable' ones. You guys are never a chore to skim through to check on update, certainly not.

So, where does this episode (containing a series that's supposed to contain my worst Exhall nightmare) stack up in comparison to the rest of 24' and 25' season IMO? Well...
(Also I'm doing this in text because archive trick has begun to bug out, and I can't be bothered to deal with that)

S: Simon vs Kyle
A+: Ghost Rider vs Spawn, Bowser vs Eggman
A: Hulk vs Godzilla, Dante vs Clive, Ruby vs Maka
A-: Tomura vs Mahito, Joker vs Giorno
B+: Wile vs Tom, Ash vs Yugi, Among Us vs Fall Guys
B: Miles vs Deku, Master Chief vs Doom Slayer (v2)
C: Omni-Man vs Bardock
D: Kratos vs Asura, Blade vs Buffy.

(All are generally (?) unordered within tiers)

I think the one thing that I have to praise about this episode right from go is that it alleviated probably one of, if not, my biggest issue(s) coming off what will be it's largest point of comparison in my mind (that being Red vs Tai) - this being the issue of disingenuity. This is best exemplified by Yugi actually respecting Ash when he wins, as opposed to the 'who the bloody hell was that guy?' ass line of Red vs Tai's ending.

I do think the 3D models of Ash and Yugi are kinda ugly at a standstill, but DevilArtemis made it work for him (and also Luis Cruz, although I am still a bit thrown for a loop that he didn't continue with the sprites he used as a proof of concept a few years ago). That, and while there were a few lines that didn't quite land, there were just as many who did (contrast 'what do you mean all?' and the accompanying exchange, with something like Yugi explaining the terms and conditions of Magic Cylinder, as if Ash was supposed to do anything with that information in... would you call being turned to stone death? (also, I know that's the nature of 4Kids YGO writing, but Yugi... you are aware overexplaining that is something LexDoom got a verbal bollocking for, right?)). Meeting Hirati (or whatever her name was) with the exclamation 'whose that Pokemon?' is a good microcosm of this, because while it did kinda make me facepalm, it's not mocking the characters' intelligence in the same way that comparing Zard X to digiv-I can't even say that with a straight face... was.

Voices are pretty solid as well. Tom Schalk, as well as having the delivery I'd expect from the character, will likely be the thing that gets Martin Billany ratio'd wherever he goes, and that's my daily dose of schadenfreude (if you know why, you get a cookie) - although I hear a bit of Justin Briner in his younger 'Yami Yugi' form, and I'm not sure how I feel about that. Elise Lovelock, meanwhile, is very Sarah Natochenny-pilled in her delivery, which is both expected and impressive of her.

And the fight pacing was also pretty great at best, with a few bumps in the road (I noticed more than a few instances of Yugi's monsters and Ash's lesser mons just kinda... standing there). But given the amount that both were able to use, Ash's concise use of stuff like G-Max Gengar, Ash Greninja and Mega Lucario (although I would have preferred the 'full shell' Mega Evolution animation), and the way Yugi reacted to a lot of those options, I'd say those were nitpicks. I also noticed the Incineroar suplex, so that was fun.

EDIT: oh, and the Death Battle sprite in place of the Game Freak logo was pretty cute.

why do u have blade vs buffy so low

i just feel like there wouldve been a better ending than yugi used magic cylinder
Ngl, I do think it works. Not only does it portray the point of Yugi playing the long game and beating powerful foes even when using basic cards but the final line of the actual fight being "You activated my trap card" which is one of the most iconic lines in the entire series is fitting.
