DEATH BATTLE! Discussion Thread (All-time Death Battle Spoilers Alert)

It feels like to me that the main point of the character of the animatronics is how they characterize their setting, as children they had their own personalities but then were forced into the archetypes and characters of the mascots. They lost their identity and just became “the creepy looking robots from that disastrous pizzeria”. But going to the examples you gave, (I personally haven’t touched any Ori stuff so I won’t speak on it) but as someone who has played way more Hollow Knight than anything FNAF, if the Knight’s characterization is defined by how they play, their story, and general disposition, then how the hell does none of this apply to Freddy, except how he plays is switched to how he is to play against. The Knight has even less characterization in the game and concrete backstory than Freddy. The Pokémon and Mario minions you mentioned are in hindsight not as good of equivalents to Freddy because they were in composite species battles, and individuals of their species have very distinct personalities, unlike Freddy. But even if all of your arguments are true and Freddy has no character, why does that matter? We are talking about a powerscaling show, not analyzing the backstories, personalities, and characterization of them. **** it, a really good thought just came into my head, what about Micheal Myers? He literally has no characterization and backstory whatsoever other than being really, really, really, evil, and he is a creepy stalker who kills people around Laurie Strode because they might be related. That’s just about as much, if not less characterization as Freddy and yet he got on the show just fine.

And that is why the overall preference is William Afton. The man has a character, he does things, you can tell me with some accuracy some things he likes or dislikes.

I think Games Afton sucks, yeah, but there's no way to get around that even counting all side media, he by far has the most personality and characterization in the franchise.
Also considering his characterization in DBD was overseen by Scott, the man is a massive showman. He actively revels in playing the bad guy. Just a massive personality and ego that acts like he's the star in a play.

As someone who is able and willing to spend $10 a month on this show, I have here the current most submitted characters list for Champion’s Island (IDK how to put in screenshots on this website so you’ll just have to trust me ig):

Deleted submissions are not counted
Springtrap - 8
Rean Schwarzer (Trails of Cold Steel) - 7
Rimuru Tempest - 6
Sonic.EXE - 5
King K. Rool - 5
Omori - 5
Maelle (Clair Obscur) - 4
Beatrice (Umineko) - 4
Hatsune Miku - 4

My problem is still that Freddy is only one piece of a larger pie. Freddy is not unique, despite being the mascot of the series he is one of the many haunted animatronics. Classic Freddy is only actually in like two mainline games, with him only being the main animatronic in one of them and in the other he's spare parts for his replacements (who is like the least memorable animatronic in 2). It'd take about 12 hours to play though all the main line FNaF, Classic Freddy is only really important to about 4. Compare that to Knight who is the playable character for the entire game and going off some of the estimates online a full playthough of his game can go upwards of 60 hours.
Also for a character like Micheal Myers is the main antagonist of his movies, he is the driving force of his story. The driving forces for most of the mainline FnaF series is Springtrap and the Puppt. Freddy is just one victim out of the list of poeple Afton killed, only being notable because he's the mascot character but despite that never really standing out to much in the grand scheme of things.

Gotta be real I don't even think a matchup like Freddy vs Universal Frankenstein is that bad, like you could have a pretty neat moment of pathos where Freddy recognizing that the monster is in a similar situation to him being an innocent creature under the control of a mad man (Ygor's brain) and deciding to free him from his suffering by killing him. The problem is that you can do this exact thing with any of the FnaF 1 animatronics and it'd be just as thematic, hell even the toy ones are arguable just as thematic if you think they're also possessed.
When you can just replace a character with multiple different seperate character from their setting and it'd have barely any effect on how thematic a match is then there's a fundemental flaw with it.

I get where your points are coming from in your other message so Ima agree to disagree here because I feel like we are set on our opinions for that topic.
As for the message I am replying to, I feel like Freddy is actually slightly more connected to the monster than the other animatronics because they don’t share Freddy’s stealth, which the monster also has so it is a connection that levies Freddy as the best choice for him IMO. Also due to the fact that Freddy is more iconic but that doesn’t have anything to do thematically with the MU.

People pushing for Sonic.EXE when they should be pushing for Bubsy to make it onto death battle.
