DEATH BATTLE! Discussion Thread (All-time Death Battle Spoilers Alert)

We're in the last stretch now fellas.

Rooting Maka, betting Ruby

Next time prediction time ig

Its been long enough that both Torrian & Ismahawk eps are possible, if they started the work on them immediately year ago. Those 2 will always be viable candidates now tbh.

MORO, DA and other 3D teams have worked like, 3 3D eps in row, unless next time is new team or Torrian, 3D is unlikely lol I suspect AangTraveler is 3D so not that.

Handdraw/sprite team is probably next time. Im combining these since it seems SimonKyle was by same people but got extra budget to be 99% handdrawn. So same people working on those might give hand drawn or sprites.

But what does this actually mean for MUs? If its Ismahawk, I expect capeshit LA fight. If its Torrian I expect ShulkLightning. If its 2D team, I expect SansJudge. But tbh for 2D, one can never bet against capeshit MUs unfortunately.

But man, we really got 3 3Ds in row, crazy DB has forgotten about sprites

I know vaguely what the answer to this question is going to be, but is this the only MU you feel this way? As in, you’re betting for a character you’ve grown umbrage with?
Pretty much yeah

Genuinely if there was a way for me to argue that Maka wins I would

I'm not interested in the powerscaling or even the fight animation itself -- tbh I prefer villain vs villain matchups where it usually isn't sad to see the loser die & OoC for the winner to murder -- so much as how DB will handle this in a PR perspective.

RWBY is practically a poster child for aborted potential (though many of its problems were present in Oum's writing from the start in large part due to his instructing other writers to "research other anime to note mistakes" instead of studying good writing in general) with the untimely death of the stylistic talent who made the flaws palatable. As well as Rooster Teeth's demise due to growing beyond its in-touch grassroots origins with all their new crap that no one liked, likely made as an investor pitch i.e. "Look how much we're growing with all these new IPs & bloated seasons, don't mind the criticism & viewcounts!" The writers & staff in general got very obstinate & dismissive against even constructive feedback near the end, perhaps in defense of lost friends & potential.

It wouldn't surprise me if this episode has a lot of emotion, worst-case scenario being like how later RT productions had unpleasant, frankly unproductive & uninsightful existential whining if something like "troll's remorse" strikes. Or maybe they make the one girl killing the other girl something that puts a smile on everyone's faces, who knows. I sometimes get the impression that Death Battle wishes they could drop the death part when it comes to hero vs hero matchups. But "Let's see the latest episode of Battle!™" doesn't have the same ring to it. It's a tricky spot to be in, could be something to learn from either way.

EDIT: I think their ideal move would be to play things as straight and unsentimental (as in without getting sobby & remorseful) as possible, though that's easier said than done considering their relationships with their own projects & others'. By the way, it would be really funny if there was a twist where they had The Unshot But Finished RWBY Script on hand for research material. I don't think that will happen, but they more likely could tie-in an announcement as they did with Yang vs Tifa.

Purgatory jokes aside, anyone who actually finds waiting for an episode of some silly nerd webseries to be a big hurtle must be free of any true cares in life. So if you find yourself suffering from suspense and/or salt, you can cure yourself by making your life a lot worse! Or better ig.

You think they'll do a bit ending where Professor Stein revives Ruby at the end after he death?
Dunno about that, but I think the real ending that'll surprise you all is that The Winner is Metal Sonic. That's what I bet my net worth on, anyway. Should be a sure thing, but hopefully the payout comes before these loan sharks break through my last barricades.

Thoughts on imperium of man vs principality of zeon
A complete mismatch. Zeon has some impressive stuff but in a direct fight they stand no chance, like at all. Something like the Galactic Empire would be fairer even if it'd need some assumption/scenario shenanigans to make it work.

Also the Imperium's best match-up is probably the Dalek all things considerered
It's a far cry but I'd like to see them fight the Motherworld Imperium from Rebel Moon considering it's just straight up a 1-1 copy of the Imperium of Man and the movies is basically a 40k movie in all but name
