Suggestions for improvements (New forum)

Okay. Thank you for the information.

I am not sure what features that he specifically wants us to apply though.
I believe they just want some sort of functionality to roll a dice, such that they could go "roll a 12-sided die" and a bot or program responds "Rolled a 7"

Aha. I will ask our system manager about it later then, but it doesn't seem important enough to pay him for several hours of work regarding something like this, so it is not certain that anything will be done about the issue. Can somebody try to politely ask the administrators in the forum that incorporates this feature about further information about how it was installed first please?

i'll try but i just abandoned my account

Oh. That is unfortunate. Please try to access it again if you can.

I am not going to get an account there in order to investigate. Sorry.

The last time we implemented a feature from another forum (the sandboxes, if I remember correctly) a member there asked about the issue for us.

Thank you for helping out. Please remember to be very polite and ask about which XenForo feature/plug-in that they used for this.

while i was waiting for a response after i posted i decided to look it up

this might be it, i dunno

Dice system integration. So we can play DND 5e, 3.5e, Mage, Exalted 2e/3e, and many other games including custom games. I saw it on RPNation.

This is so people aren't bothered by 2,000 character limit on discord and also you can fancy up your content much more than on Discord like this.
As the resident D&D guy... meh.

Just play via Discord, man. Not really the point of the wiki or forum. It shouldn't fall to the forum mods, admins, and bureaucrats to maintain D&D support software and whatever else would be needed.

Okay. Never mind then. My apologies, Meganova.

discord sucks

fuark
Could be, though I think it's a lot better than forums (personal opinion). Still, as mentioned, it really doesn't need to be Ant, AKM, Prom, or anybody here's problem to try to maintain an RP forum. It's just an extra duty that, however trivial, isn't really at all related to our work.

Hmm, well I've seen that my other friends don't really understand the language used in Vs battle, I mean vocabulary, like in Conceptual Manipulation, I still often see people who don't understand by just reading the Vs battle wiki, and asking people -that person. who understand more

so i guess, maybe try to use language that is "maybe" longer, and a bit easier to understand, so that people can understand it too, well actually this is just a little suggestion

You mean an entire cultural change in which everything is more unecessarily verbose so outsiders that will probably leave a while after can try further to grasp it?
Uh... yeah no, that's just too impractical and there's no reasonable way to enforce that, just drop a question in the Questions and Answers board if you're unsure on something.

I see......Alrigt then

(It feels very weird to constantly refer to other people as "them", but I suppose that I have to try to get used to it. Maybe our system manager can add a preferred pronouns selection button to this forum, that is always displayed, in order to simplify things for us?)

I think it would be better to share some thoughts about that in this thread. I am also afraid of misgendering someone, especially when they haven't left any evidences on what their gender is. In some gendered languages, you can guess the person's gender online by looking at how do they decline verbs/nouns/adjectives toward themselves. This, however, isn't the case for English, where only pronouns and some really old feminatives (waitress, mistress, goddess, ...) can determine the person's gender.

In pre-UCP Fandom, there was the Gender section in user global profiles, which helped me to know how to refer to quite many members correctly. Now they abandoned that section, this forum doesn't have anything similar either. So yeah, I support this idea with all my hands and legs.

I also very strongly agree with adding a preferred pronouns button. I really don't have the energy to correct everybody who assumes I'm a man, so at bare minimum it'd be useful for situations like that.

Though I have to ask if adding multiple sets of pronouns would at all be possible.

I asked our system manager about this previously, but he has not had the time to respond yet, so I do not know if it is possible.

WordReference, another XenForo forum, has male and female icons in member profiles. I think it shouldn't be very difficult to implement something like this.

Ehhhhhh

I am personally against using gender indicators, especially if they're solely restricted to male/female, given the widely varying ways people choose to identify beyond those two options. Pronouns serve essentially the same purpose, but are more inclusive of trans/GNC members such as myself.

Since we are an inclusive community, I agree with your suggestions. I just showed Ant an example of a XenForo forum with a similar yet different feature.

I wanted to ask, is it possible to add more emojis? Or are we using some specific non-editable system?

I am fine with this. I was thinking of using He/Him, She/Her, and They/Them, to keep things simple.

We likely can, but it is not a high priority, as increasingly obscure or absurd emojis are not a necessary function for our work here.

Okay. What kind of emojis do you have in mind?

I have asked about a greater selection of inoffensive standard emojis in any case.

I think it would be great to add more features to editing tables.

As for the table border, I think it would be 0 - 5 pixels thick. Sometimes, people don't need borders for their tables, so they can choose 0 pixels for no borders.

There should also be a choice for us to align tables between Top, Middle, and Bottom. As of now, we can only align our tables between Left, Center & Right.

We should also have the ability to change table colors. As for those who don't want their tables to be colored, they can set their table background to be transparent.

Ant, about the line under your name, "Maintenance worker", can it be used by other people? It is far easier to write your gender there, if it is possible. On display and all.
It is an optional title available for the administrators and above. So not everybody can use it. But we are working on a new pronouns feature which should solve the problem sufficiently.

By the way, I've seen some members whose profile photo is in the form of a video, and when I try, it seems like an error and fails, how do I use the video profile??

It seems like we already have a lot of emoji options.

See here for examples:

However, we are considering to add anime emojis as well, if we find good options.

I think that the gif file has to be less than 1 Megabyte large in order to work, but am not sure if I remember correctly.
