From everything I read in hunter x hunter, you still need to activate it. It's via thought, as shown when Hisoka fear haxxed killua and Gon by simply thinking he will win.

Shouldn't that be super obvious that Meruem wins via Nen Crush, it's not just fear manipulation, Age manipulation as well, which Meliodas doesn't resist. Just because normally you would believe that Meliodas one shot a Hxh doesn't always automatically signify that your mindset applies to this wiki too.
Nen crush is instantaneous, basically match starts and Meliodas dies from aging or nen crush in general. Before you say he can resist it, until he doesn't have it on his profile it might as well be headcanon and inconsequential to the fight, no matter how logical they are.

According to knowledgeable Hxh supporters "nen crush" hax stems from Hisoka and Mereum, except Hisoka didn't quite literally aged people to death, but you get what I'm trying to say, yes? Apparently it's passive which every Nen user gets access to

If the winning side has more than 7 votes and more than 3 votes difference against the losing side, then yes.
