Some of those have potential to affect anime &/or TCG scaling.
As some may have noticed, Yugioh cards have text! This includes in the anime; It isn't visible in dubs like the English ones, due to merchandise advertisement rules.
Thus, in the original Japanese anime (Which, for some series, the anime is the original canon, as the Manga is either a separate continuity made after, or does not exist for that series.), those Normal Monsters should have the same card text as their IRL counterparts.
Thus, if we assume the anime card lore is the same as IRL (Although, in cases where the card originated in the anime, we MAY need to verify it's the same.) & the lore on the physical cards is relevant to their versions in the anime, it could affect scaling.
(Although, why Industrial Illusions or whoever's making the cards in the anime would have factual information about monsters often not even known/thought to exist, IDK.)
Even without it, it could affect the card game scaling.
So, let's go over which of those could affect scaling chains, off the top of my head:
Meteor Dragon
In the Japenese version, it's described as follows:
"宇宙の果てから地球におちてきた、流星のドラゴン."
(A meteoric dragon from the ends of the universe that crashed on Earth.)
The feat is rather dubious though, with no mention of how long it took to get from the ends of the universe to Earth. Even then it's rather dubious whether it can be incorporated into its combat speed, ditto for AP/Dura calculations.
Fusion Material for Meteor Black Dragon.
Appeared in Toei's Yugioh movie, where... I'll let the Wiki speak for me:
I guess the manga was too early to let Joey have Red Eyes B. Dragon? Or Toei was dumb &/or wanted an audience self-insert?
Anyway, Toei Yugioh is kind of a mess we currently don't cover, so I guess let's put that aside.
In Yugioh GX, Trueman summons it by using Meteor Dragon & King of the Swamp as a Fusion Material substitute for Red Eyes (Presumably because REBD was Atticus's signature card or something.), & destroys Elemental HERO Mudballman with it. It attacks again on Trueman's next turn. Jaden uses A Hero Emerges to summon Elemental HERO Neos. Given the replay, Trueman has MBD attack again, against the newly present Neos, & Jaden uses Soul Union to add Mudballman's ATK to Neos's, & Neo destroys MBD.
So, unless we call it game mechanics, MBD is superior to Neos, but inferior to Neos + Mudballman under a Soul Union? IDK, LOL.
Capsule Monsters Scaling (IIRC, this is a separate continuity from the Manga & NAS because the Capsule Monsters Anime was a 4Kids commission thing.): Base Meteor Dragon is 1 of the "Fiendish Five", which Yugi Muto & his friends had to defeat during the final trial. It later combined with "Luster Dragon #2", "Aqua Dragon" (Technically a sea serpent, lol.) , "Tyrant Dragon" & "Serpent Night Dragon" to form "Five-Headed Dragon".
During the dueling at Yuma's school in ep 1 of ZEXAL, Meteor Dragon can be seen.
Anyway, presumably Meteor Black Dragon should be superior to its Fusion Materials.
Also, this exists:
https://yugioh.fandom.com/wiki/Meteor_Dragon_Red-Eyes_Impact
A counterpart or a retrain or something? But the Wiki claims it's art depicts it as if it's undergoing atmospheric impact.
Cosmo Queen
In the Japenese version, it is described as follows:
“宇宙に存在する、全ての星を統治しているという女王。”
(A queen who exists in the universe and rules over all the stars.)
Possesses an extremely high prestige of power, but of course this description is still rather vague, and it's not clear if her means of ruling over all the stars in the universe is through AP or an extremely high intelligence/overlordship.
Summoned via Gozaburo using Chess Pieces & then destroyed Curse of Dragon in the Virtual World Arc, episode 120. Defeated by a combo of Joey's Rocket Warrior & Yugi's Dark Magician.
In Yugioh GX 97, Doctor Collector summoned it, & it attacked The D's Enigma the Creator. The D activated Negate Attack, & later summoned Destiny Hero - Plasma, which Cosmo Queen gets attacked to. Magician's Valkyria's effects, & Nightmare Wheel are negated by The D's face up D - Force, & Destiny Hero - Plasma attacks Ebon Magician Curran & wins the duel.
The Wiki says about Cosmo Queen for, about ARC-V: In
episode 126, this card appears in
Leo Akaba's explanation of how
Solid Vision technology was developed alongside the
Duel Monsters card game.
IDK the details of what, if anything it did in ARC-V.
Garnecia Elefantis
"A monster so heavy that each step rocks the earth."
Creating earthquakes
Wiki says: This card's name is derived from Ganesha, the name of a Hindu god who has an elephant head.
Mind, name-scaling isn't useful, & we don't know what feats Ganesha has in YGO.
Infamous for a scene in the anime:
In
episode 16, this card is shown in a flashback
Seto Kaiba has when he explains to
Yugi Muto what happened at the Intercontinental Tournament in New York City.
Bandit Keith was shown using this card during his Duel against
Maximillion Pegasus who later swapped places with a boy named Sam. Keith summoned this card in Attack Position, but his opponent Normal Summons "
Flying Elephant", which decreases Keith's
Life Points to 0. How it happened is unknown because "Flying Elephant" was 550 points weaker than this card, but in the manga it is explained that "Flying Elephant" is able to counter the seismic attack of "Garnecia Elefantis" (this is not a real rule).
- This rule and some of the other rules used in the Duelist Kingdom arc are based off elemental relationships; specifically, WIND beats EARTH, in this case due to the aforementioned ability to counter this card's seismic attack.
Strangely, the YGO Wiki claims about Flying Elephant:
- This card's instant win effect is likely in reference to how it was used to defeat Bandit Keith.
- In the manga and original Japanese dub of the anime, it dodges the effect of "Fissure", which is referenced in this card's protection from destruction effects.
IDK when Fissure was used against it.
Notably, Flying Elephant is an effect monster IRL, but just a Normal Monster in the anime. The YGO Wiki lists its card lore (From the Japanese anime) as:
"As it floats in the sky, it is unaffected by ground-based attacks."
Twin-Headed Fire Dragon
"Two dragons fused as one from the effects of the Big Bang."
Can survive the impact of the Big Bang.
In episode 61, this card appears in a Battle City Duel, while Téa Gardner and Solomon Muto were looking for Yugi Muto.
Not much else for it.
Neo Aqua Madoor
"The true nature of this wizard, who rules all water. It defends itself with a vast, impenetrable wall of ice."
Extremely strong ice manipulation, creating a fairly strong wall of ice.
YGO Wiki says for appearances:
This monster was seen in
Yu-Gi-Oh! Capsule Monsters. It was destroyed by
La Jinn the Mystical Genie of the Lamp.
This was one of the monsters in
The Supreme King's army.
If at all relevant, it has a Lightray counterpart:
https://yugioh.fandom.com/wiki/Lightray_Madoor
The Wiki mentions for Aqua Madoor that: It appeared in Yu-Gi-Oh! GX as a Duel Monsters Spirit.
But it doesn't say when or what it did, if anything.
Aqua Madoor is depicted in
https://yugioh.fandom.com/wiki/Magical_Stream
Notably, Magical Stream's art seems to depict a calculable feat, with some pixel scaling necessary?
Given Neo Aqua Madoor seems to a retrain of it, & its text even implies NAM is the "true nature" of AM, NAM should be superior to AM. (Not to mention ice is denser than water, lol.)
Phantom Gryphon
In the Japenese version, it is described as follows:
”山岳に隠れ棲む伝説のモンスター。その翼はひと羽ばたきで嵐を巻き起こすという。ハーピィとは仲が悪く、狩場を巡って争いが絶えないらしい。“
(A legendary monster that dwells secretly in the mountains. Its wings are said to cause storms that can blow people away. It has a bad relationship with the Harpies, as they seem to endlessly fight over hunting grounds.)
Able to create powerful storms, but it's not clear at what level.
Scaling to Harpies is interesting!
The Wiki claims:
This monster
appeared as a
Duel Spirit in the anime more than ten years before it was made into a card, in
Yu-Gi-Oh! - Episode 147.
Also, it seems to be made in reference to
"Gryphon's Feather Duster" is named for this monster.
It also seems to appear in the artwork of
https://yugioh.fandom.com/wiki/Gryphon_Wing
Since Gryphon Wing negates Harpie's Feather Duster & then applies the same effect to your opponent as what HFD, there's at least 2 possibilities for what it does:
A. Power Nullifies or otherwise stops the whirlwind or such that HFD creates. (IIRC, it often does Wind Manipulation in the anime.) This would suggest it is equal.
B. Overpowers HFD & turns it on the opponent, which is probably more since it's changing the course of a windstorm. Probably hard to calc, though.
Either way, it's also unclear if the Gryphon Wing feat is done with 1 or 2 wings.
Kabazauls
"A huge monster in the shape of a hippopotamus. The sneezing from his gigantic body is so fierce that people mistake it for a hurricane."
Appearances in the artwork of:
https://yugioh.fandom.com/wiki/Lost_World
However, its AoE appears small. It could just be the perspective/scale of the art, though?
Powers and Abilities:
Rabidragon
In the Japenese version it is described as follows:
"雪原に生息するドラゴンの突然変異種。巨大な耳は数キロ離れた物音を聞き分け、驚異的な跳躍力と相俟って狙った獲物は逃さない。"
(A mutant species of dragon that inhabits the snowfields. Its huge ears can distinguish sounds from kilometres away, and combined with its incredible leaping ability, it cannot miss its prey.)
Super hearing and leaping ability
Rabidragon has an anime appearance:
Although, it's unclear if this indicates any comparability. It was destroyed alongside those 3, but heck if I know. Also, IIRC, while Master of Oz doesn't have much, Behemoth has a huge &, IIRC, embarassing scaling chain.
That would mean going into 2 scaling chains, 1 of which is potentially quite larger, just to find feats to use for Anime-TCG/OCG cross-scaling to MAYBE say Rabidragon is comparable to, which I do not feel up to AtM.
Suppression Collider
In the Japenese version, it is described as follows:
"ネットワーク世界の巨悪と戦う熟練の闘士。その鉄鎚に圧縮されたデータは、誰にも復元できない。"
(This skilled warrior fights the great evils of the Network World. No one can restore any data compressed by their hammer.)
Data Manipulation
Couldn't find anything. Fitting, lol.
Mystery Shell Dragon
In the Japenese version, it is described as follows:
"別次元から突如として飛来した謎の生命体。高い攻撃力と奇襲能力を併せ持つ。その攻撃は対象物の神経を麻痺させ、強烈な幻覚症状を引き起こす。"
(A mysterious life form that suddenly came flying out of a different dimension. It possesses both high offensive and surprise attack capabilities. Its attack paralyzes the target's nerves, and causes intense hallucinations.)
Can paralyse and hallucinate enemies.
The Wiki says, among other things for it:
- This card may be based on the Glaucus atlanticus, commonly known as the "blue dragon."
- This card being a Wyrm-Type may be a reference to this nickname.
- This card's flavor text notes its ability to deliver paralyzing stings, which may be a reference to the venomous nematocysts the Glaucus atlanticus uses to sting its victims.
But not much else of note for it. : (
Speed:
Unknown Warrior of Fiend
"The speed of this warrior creates an intense vacuum that can slice through a monster's hide."
The attack is fast enough to create a strong vacuum.
The feat itself is good, although I'm sad to say that I couldn't find anything connected to UWoF.
Gazelle the King of Mythical Beasts
"This monster moves so fast that it looks like an illusion to mortal eyes."
Gazelle is as fast as an illusion.
Kind of vague. Could be equated to being a blur by speed, or maybe afterimages via speed? Faster than sight?
Also, Fusions should be superior to their Fusion Materials, presumably, so this may be something for Chimera.
Even with just card game scaling alone, Gazelle has tons of stuff, nevermind with the anime/manga.
It also has a retrain, though the connection feels a little superficial:
https://yugioh.fandom.com/wiki/Gazelle_the_King_of_Mythical_Claws
Sonic Duck
"A duck which can walk at a
sonic speed. Sometimes, he cannot deal with his incredible pace and loses control."
Used like Chocobo-like mounts in the anime:
Sky Scout
"With eyes like a hawk and a flying speed exceeding
Mach 5, this monster is a master of the sky.
If being a duelist counts for anything in scaling....
Oh & for some reason it got to be in the first episode for two different series:
Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL
Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V
So yeah, that was a lot. Or at least it feels like it.
If anyone wants to tackle digging up the scaling for Master of Oz, Behemoth, King of All Animals &/or Gazelle, the King of Mythical Beasts, that might be useful.
Hopefully this was helpful &/or interesting.
