UNDERTALE/DELTARUNE [shiny new] DISCUSSION THEAD

Seriously though, we Darksiders fans waited 6 years for a new game after 2, and are currently on the fifth year of waiting for the new game after Genesis came out.

A delayed game where the motto is "We'll release it when it's done" is 10x better than the 20th CoD shat out yearly with a shitty story and rushed gameplay.

"everyone" The literal one person talking to you rn is me and no one is insulting you. And I think you fail to understand my meaning, which is about the context.

You have a strong mentality of personalized negativity. No one here is insulting you, demeaning you, or thinking of you as lesser. This is entirely your perspective of things and is why I'm saying you need to chill out.

Quit it with the therapy speech. You've judged me based on like one thing that ticked me off and I got angry at that and now you're acting like you didn't demean me. You did. You implied I've no hobbies outside of games despite me explicitly saying that I do in the same message and you started acting in a patronizing way the moment I got angry at that. This is very demeaning and your patronization is making me actually angry when I wasn't really before.
 
Guys I literally said that I have Yan Sim vibes from this as Toby Fox pretty much is always saying that DR isn't released yet in a span of over 2 years, Chapter 2 was released in November 2021 and rn we're in December 2024. I'm not expecting Toby to mass produce games every year, but it is getting annoying if all we get are delays said everytime in nice rewordings.

Obviously it doesn't mean that I need to cry like a bitch about it, UT and DR aren't the only pieces of fiction to exist, but it does ultimately get annoying.

If you're happy with constant delays and "well I'm sorry but we got problems and extra work so we'll release later", then that's your problem.

ngl at this point when you are making game chapters that together will last like 8-9 hours, one'd expect 3 years to be more than enough when you have loads of experience and a proper team, not to mention that it isn't some super well drawn game like Hollow Knight or Ori, its all pixels, and you're not doing it from scratch but from an already existing base.

Tbh Cuphead took 7 years iirc so I'm giving to DR some extra leniency.

I'm not saying "Toby ******* sucks he takes too long", I'm just giving my personal annoyance at it.

cuphead was basically hand-drawn by like 2 dudes that had a job and had to spend time with their families, of course it took that much. Toby on the other hand not only has a team but has also made bank to the point that I doubt he'd ever need to work again if he wanted to. (it cost 20$ or so on release and sold over a million copies on steam in 2016, so that's 20 mill in 2016 and like half of it at the very least would go to Toby, it has since then sold 5 mill on steam and more sales on PS, Switch ect.). Like Toby has time and money, that's why I am not being lenient. If it was his first game or sth it'd be a different story but not only does he have experience and a team but also a truckload of money unless he spent it on a big mansion or sth.

Delays is when you have a date and it gets bumped back to a new date. I wouldn't call this delays.

It does for some people. I'm more excited for DR than probably anyone else here but I've already got so much going on outside of that miniscule part of my life that it doesn't bother me one bit.

That's not even what's happening with Deltarune though. I don't remember Toby saying that 3 and 4 would be releasing in 2024 then changing it later. I also wouldn't call it a problem. I'm pretty happy not getting mad over things like this lol.
 
I mean, if we are talking about graphics, animations or mechanics, then yeah sure, Deltarune is way better than Undertale on these things, but does this even justify taking 2-3 years to release a single chapter?

technically 2 chapters but at the same time taking 3.5 years if we go by estimates (last chapter was in september 2021, this one is still months away) is definitely too long for someone with money, experience and talented people working with em.

We aren't aware of literally every thread. Some mods also don't go to certain threads out of a dislike of the series or otherwise. So things can escape notice, and by the time we notice, the situation has already calmed down by itself. And yet, when people call us on to resolve a situation, they get labeled a snitch. Funny how that works.

Toxic discussions in general are a rule violation, quite literally the first rule of the site:

The severity of breaking this rule depends on the context of the discussion itself.

Here, for example, your discussion with RinneItachi would warrant a simple comment to tone it down. If you continue with it, you will get a warning.

That will be all.
 
Making a game takes time.

Deltarune Chapter 3 and Chapter 4 are confirmed to be longer together than Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 together, which already have like 13 hours of content in total.
 
Chapter 1 & Chapter 2 both took like, 3 years since UT to come out & if 3+4 are bigger than 1+2, then it'd take 6 years to make them.
Having a team to cut down that estimate still means that it'll take like, 3 years.

We then had a delay unexpected by the team where they realized they need to do a game_change thing so the files can be arranged efficiently & not be super laggy & have one launcher. That's what the whole months of waiting for GameMaker's game_change before they could continue working was for, & THEN they needed to test that feature with DR.

Other things that seem to have delayed things:

Toby used to prefer personally going over everything personally with a steamroller for mistakes. Now he has a team for that.
Toby wants simeultaneous global releases (English and Japanese.) AND simeultaneous console releases. So they have to do the 1st & 2nd Japanese translation passes, as well as code & test the console ports.

& it's not like the Newsletters have been insubstantial. We've gotten a few feats, some lore info, as well as tons of characterization from the many newsletters.
As well as previews of stuff to fuel or speculation.

This Newsletter alone gave us several pieces of dialogue, including the first official dialogue confirmed to be from Dess, giving us an idea of her mannerisms, to name one.

It's also given us a loose indicator of what parts of the house Ch3 will cover.

I would not say it's provided nothing, & considering the scope & hurdles, the time taken seems reasonable.
