They seem pretty powerful.
Example Subcon is a dream universe created by the dreams of the mushroom kingdom.
And the dream universe from m&l dream team.
Also the Dream Depot also houses five seperate Dream verses.
The power of dreams within the Mario series has to have some form of importance, because the star spirits themselves watch over the dreams in Mario party 5 meaning they must have some form of significant within the Mario universe.
