Superman (Original) "Plot Convenience"? Is it really?

In the Original Superma the following has been written:

  • During his fight with Superboy Prime, they broke the space-time continuum. However, this should likely be taken as unquantifiable plot convenience.
But didn't this happen again in Infinite Crisis? When Earth-1 Supermand and Earth-2 Superman fought?

Also, I know this was quantified as plot convenience because it was needed for retcons, but should it be really? All character acknowledge that all the destruction is coming from the battle from the Supermans.

We took a similar feat from the Beerus VS Goku fight, where Whis said they could potentially destroy the universe. And in the end they even didn't destroy it. Why shouldn't it count here?

It seemed to be an effect of different Supermen from different continuities fighting, rather than a feat of raw power. Post-Crisis Superman has fought plenty of other comparable opponents without causing any reality warping effects.
