I've noticed that God only appears when a character is getting their ass whopped/are in a extremely vulnerable position, why hasn't he ever pulled up on suckers like genos? Curious to know what his criteria are.

Theoretically, Genos is never "nearly dead", since he is a robot with basically no biological traces. So no matter how much damage he receives, his "life force" will essentially not change.
