[SPOILER] Pokémon SW/SH Thread 3: Ruby and Sapphire... oh wait! [SPOILER]

TBH Fishious Rend Mega Sharpedo would end up in Ubers even in Nat Dex

It is basically Deoxys Attack but now it can't fall to Prankster Will-o-Wisp and speed ties with Scarf Lando-T after a single boost (For that matter, Mega Sharpedo after a single speed boost outspeeds Dragapult and Zeraora too, for that matter)

Considering how the meta is, Sharpedo easily gets 2 boosts when going against stall teams then proceeds to sweep without even needing hazard support or even rain, so yeah, total Ubers material.

Chansey should remain the same as usual, just the cleric and/or special wall for stall and all of that, no major buffs beyond Teleport Natural Cure sets being an option if you want to safely pivot Wishes.

While we are on that, are we going to ignore that Mega Blastoise can 2HKO Chansey after a single Shell Smash thanks to Aura Sphere?

252+ Atk Strong Jaw Sharpedo-Mega Fishious Rend (170 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Torkoal in Sun: 272-324 (79 - 94.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

252+ Atk Strong Jaw Sharpedo-Mega Fishious Rend (170 BP) vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Chansey: 639-753 (90.8 - 107.1%) -- 43.8% chance to OHKO

Would Fishious Rend OHKO max HP & Defense Chansey with Eviolite? If not, that's counter material.
252+ Atk Strong Jaw Sharpedo-Mega Fishious Rend (170 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Chansey: 639-753 (90.7 - 106.9%) -- 43.8% chance to OHKO

Would Torkoal be able to live the second Fishious Rend after Curse or Iron Defense?

252+ Atk Strong Jaw Sharpedo-Mega Fishious Rend (170 BP) vs. +6 252 HP / 252+ Def Torkoal in Sun: 66-80 (19.1 - 23.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Leftovers recovery

Not even with a +6

252+ Atk Strong Jaw Sharpedo-Mega Fishious Rend (170 BP) vs. +2 248 HP / 252+ Def Torkoal in Sun: 134-162 (39 - 47.2%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

No reasonable Torkoal set runs like this, however, so yeah, Sharpedo would 100% sure go to Ubers

I'm going to run a Max HP, Max Defense, Drought Torkoal with Leftovers plus Iron Defense and Body Press to counter Mega-Sharpedo with Fishious Rend. DEAL WITH IT!

"To generate electricity, it breaks down the poisons it takes into its body. During the process, Toxtricity stimulates its chest intensely, which produces a thrumming sound like a stringed instrument. It's said to sound like a melody played on an electric guitar."

"Amped Form Toxtricity is extremely confident and short-tempered. When its eyes meet those of a person or another Pokémon, Toxtricity approaches them aggressively and attacks them, no matter who or what they are."

"Toxtricity's Ability Punk Rock is a new Ability introduced in these titles. A Pokémon with this Ability has the power of its sound-based moves boosted. It also seems to take half the regular damage from sound-based moves."

"It has an electrical organ on its chest and generates electricity by strumming this organ. The organ is said to be very dangerous, capable of generating 15,000 volts of electricity. While generating electricity, Low Key Form Toxtricity produces a rhythmic sound like an electric bass guitar keeping a precise beat."

"Low Key Form Toxtricity holds its own strength in high regard and often acts selfishly. When it meets a person or another Pokémon, it won't initiate an attack, but it will taunt them until they start a fight."

"It stores electricity within its body like a thundercloud. It also stores a huge amount of poison, said to be as much as one million liters. Every time Toxtricity moves, poisonous liquid gushes out and pours down on opponents like acid rain."

"During battle, it attacks by slamming a gigantic mass of electricity down upon an opponent with all its might. This mass is made up of the tremendous amount of electricity Toxtricity has stored up. The momentum involved in the full swing of Toxtricity's gigantic body—on top of the already-powerful electricity—is great enough to create a huge crater in the ground."

"Electric-type moves used by Gigantamax Toxtricity will change to G-Max Stun Shock. G-Max Stun Shock not only deals damage but also poisons or paralyzes all opponents!"

Wait... so what I'm getting from this is that the Lake Trio predates Giratina and that Dialga and Palkia are responsible for its birth

@Robot972 Giratina is as old as Dialga or Palkia. The whole point of Giratina is that Giratina was forgotten, it isn't in the creation myths so we will never see Giratina in these texts (At least most of the time). When you see something talking about Dialga and Palkia, there's a big chance that it's in fact Dialga, Palkia AND Giratina.

This was explained in Pokemon Platinum.

It was banished for its violence. It silently gazed upon the old world from the Distortion World.
~ Pokemon Platinum

That cuddly big eldritch abomination? Its siblings have done far, far, worse in the franchise than Giratina has. If they haven't been banished, then Giratina must have done something worse than fight in the middle of a city, collapsing all of space-time on Arceus' favoured world and wiping entire beings from existence.

i think arceus would look into those claims before making the decision to banish an integral part of reality either that or arceus is biased against giratina.

Of course, but Arceus truly adores Dialga and Palkia and, well, it's two of his favourite children against the word of one favourite child. Two beats one, as they say. To the timeout corner the boy goes!

Honestly, the pokedex probably is wrong. No historical records exist regarding Giratina, right? So there is no reason to think the pokedex has any basis in the lore, unless it's treated as the literal word of god beyond any and all reasonable doubt.

wait if giratina is the embodiment of antimatter and the pokeverse is made up of you know matter then...wouldn't that be kind of a problem and that's why arceus banished it?

because the duality of antimatter and matter is essential for existence as explained several times in the series, maybe arceus was like "alright you can't go into the universe because of the nature of your existence and doing that would end you and the universe so just stay in your realm okay?" it would be understandable if arceus explained to giratina why.

The issue with that is, Giratina can go outside of the Distortion World in several different parts of the franchise with seemingly no issue. Would it only be okay for it to leave for a limited period of time, then?

it's probably fine to go out for a limited time but not for long like in platinum it snatched cyrus in seconds and went back to it's realm but IIRC the portal being there was already causing some problems in the universe and they needed giratina to stop and cool down and even more support in the "giratina isn't actually evil" idea giratina completely understands what's happening and stops what was messing with the universe.

I'm curious, would events be considered canon? If so, why would a newborn Giratina in HGSS be fine, but not the original? They are both beings of antimatter after all.

i don't think the photoshop birthing scene is canon especially considering that's an event arceus doing it and event pokemon aren't canon unless you want to accept the idea that several protags have the literal god of everything in a frickin pokeball.

All are events that "happened", at least according to the official Pokémon website. They are always mentioned in explanatory posts. As the HGSS event is mentioned in the Girtaina explanation, the GBA Mew event is referenced in the explanation of the Mew and Mewtwo, etc.

Everything as far as we know is "canon" and "has happened". How we can correct the contradictions on the other hand is something we don't know, and even from what we know the Pokémon Company wants us, the fans, to do that and they doesn't seem interested in solving these problems.
