So Road to Laugh Tale 4 basically confirms some form of toon force for Gear 5.
I hate to be the one to say it, but- "Luffy sends an enemy with stars appearing." We saw that panel both with Kaido and Luffy with stars and birds around their heads.
Oda puts emphasis on "it's like a picture book". I've been lowkey in denial but it's basically confirmed as limited toon force at least.

Luffy looking at the camera and making a battery pop outta nowhere to show he's low on gas were scrapped, but I won't be shocked if this returns when he realizes what his ability ACTUALLY is, beyond just rubber.
If you can reason birds appearing outta nowhere and making authentic sounds, stars twirling around the head and eyeballs popping out as "just rubber" then go ahead.

True, but that could just be meaning his fighting style. But he confirms the stars, birds tweeting and cartoon nonsense is meant to be.. Well- nonsense. Limited Toon Force seems to make sense here, if even the author's acknowledging it as such.
