TLR's issue is that he's really overconfident since he wasn't aware of the existence of anyone who could compare to him (to be fair due to the whole infinite compounding thing he's not exactly wrong). He once let someone incinerate him down to a skeleton just to flex his regen, and didn't take Sazed and Vin seriously until they had already basically killed him.
