God of War: Ragnarok Discussion Thread

We finally have proper official confirmation in the novels that the Blades of Athena are stronger than the Blades of Chaos.

“Ares!” He shrieked and sought to kill the god with the very blades he had been given to do Ares’ bidding.

The swords, one in each hand, slashed out, but it was Calliope and not Ares who died. The little girl perished in a welter of blood and sobs damning him, crying out for her mother, now dead also by his hand. And the rage and loss exploded within his brain so that he spun about and saw …

… a dark figure.

“Ares? You forced me to kill my own wife and daughter! I will kill you!”

But it was not Ares he faced but a nebulous, black, misty thing.

“Fight me! Fight me, you craven!” Kratos dismissed the Blades of Chaos and clutched the Blades of Athena, more powerful than any mortal could ever wield. But he was not a mortal now. He had destroyed Ares and was now the God of War.

GoW2 Novel Chapter 1. Kratos has a nightmare about Ares. He dumps the Blades of Chaos and grabs the Blades of Athena instead. While it's a nightmare, the Blades of Athena are still acknowledged to be far more powerful than any a mortal could ever wield. Best weapons Mortal Kratos wielded? The Blade of Artemis, Blades of Chaos and Gauntlet of Zeus.

Yeah but some argue that Djinn is from Arabian Mythology and thus is a "pantheon."

We don't even know if there IS a Persian pantheon in the GoWverse. The Greek pantheon's borders extended to a much wider geographic range than the Norse one does.

Ascension multiplayer showed us that even people from North Africa can be under Greek domain.(you can choose the appearance/skin color of your character when you are making it and it tells you which region they are from based on the skin tone you choose)

And it's likely that wherever the Persians came from, fell under Greek deity domain too.

Afterall we already know that the Battle of Troy (which takes place in Turkey) is canon to God of War and that also falls under Greek domain since Helios and Nyx are known to battle in the skies over that region per Ascension multiplayer.

Turkey was literally part of the Persian empire.
 
I have no idea how the idea that each pantheon is limited to a single country is still a thing, should've been over when someone was complaining that Poseidon was now only the god of a single sea due to the norse games confirming other pantheons exist, only for someone working on the games to come out and tell them he was still the god of all the seas.
 
honestly looking at gna's journal, it made me realized that maybe, odin could have changed, he could have been better, RVERYONE coud have been better, but the bitterness of freya with odin's past couple with odin's own paranoia and fear. ragnarok became the only way the realms could flourishe.

Asgard could have reamained.

Haxxed is kinda iffy since even in Journey to the West, he's not portrayed as an uber hax spammer from what I recall (the wiki profile is whatever, devs won't comb over stuff for power additions like us). But who knows really.

In terms of power, I can see it. At the very least, narratively, only Kratos at the peak of his power, when he killed Base Zeus should be on par with Wukong. And since Norse Kratos never bothered to amass weapons or restore his magic, he'd lose that fight initially.

Then again, Kratos expects Atreus to surpass him and considering their lineage's track record and the fact that even as a child, he's on the level of the prime Olympians like Ares and Athena, it'd be mad funny if the shape-shifter from the North beat the Beast of the East.

well since mimir is in norse and he didn't come from norse There IS a slight chabce of him appearing, What would be the worry for a gow chinese mythos/pantheon would be goverment meddling.

It was Bruno himself who stated as such. Poseidon was the God of All the Seas, but now he is dead.

Like, it doesn't take rocket science to figure out that if the other pantheons were countries like stated, interpantheon war would immediately break out, nevermind the fact that each pantheon has its own version of other countries (Like NeoTengus said, Persia and Turkey were all part of the wider geographic range of Greece and their cultures and myths are heavily intertwined more than one would care to admit) and then there's the tomfoolery of the Sisters of Fate sinking continents left and right and having complete control over all of life and time, Gaia breathing continents, rivers and valleys into existence, Helios' disappearance having severe consequences for the entire Mortal World that isn't recorded literally anywhere else. Hell, Ares literally razes Egypt to the ground in the Greek Pantheon and the Sisters cause a flood of the Nile there yet there are no mentions of the Egyptian Gods doing anything about it or them even being present and being under the influence of the Sisters of Fate
 
God of War does a lot of mythological fusion and fission of entities.

Erinyes and the Furies are distinct despite one being the name of the other in myth, Freya and Frigg (though I heard this is contended even IRL), Mimir and Puck Goodfellow, Kratos and Farbauti etc.
 
God of War is closer to "all collective human beliefs, myths and stories are real and exist within their own self-contained regions/reality".

Which is pretty bonkers when you think about it.

1. YOU LITERALLY USE YOUR MAGICS IN THE DIMENSION FEAT. YOU LOSE THE MAGIC AND GET THE BLADE OF THE GODS AFTER THAT ESCORT SEQUENCE.

2. There is no ******* PS5 release. The "PS5 release" is literally the PS3 Remastered Collection on PS Now.

3. The message does not happen randomly, the message appears when you cycle between your previous magic slots in the upgrade men and try the Power Up function by pressing X on them. This shit remains the exact ******* same in the PS3 Remastered Version. How else do people think I got the screenshot on RPCS3 from?

At this point I am finding it particularly hard to believe that the "casuals" are just doing this because they have no idea about the lore, this shit legit has nothing to do with the ******* lore at this point.

I would know this because I'm literally arguing with the guy who said that word for word. He said that within my conversation with him.

He also thinks that Ares's dimension creation was just an illusion with "physical properties' because of what Bruno said. And said "oh the portal and teleportation being real doesn't prove it wasn't an illusion cuz illusions might have physical properties"
