Elden Ring General Discussion

YOOOO FINALLY

Was gonna say it's a shame he's not in the same tier as Ganondorf since that would be a cool fight to do but then I realized the thread for that fight would be closed within a few messages so nevermind.

What are ya'll Top 5 favorite Elden Ring characters? Mine are:

1. Mimic Tear
2. Maliketh
3. Morgott
4. Blaidd
5. Alexander

Malenia is probably sixth.
  1. Ranni (Yes I'm a massive simp)
  2. Alexander
  3. Morgott
  4. Boc
  5. Godfrey

5. Fia

If we're counting honorable mentions, Rykard. I love that guy's ******* voice. The other honorable mention might be Yura. He, too, has an excellent voice.

1) Zorayas
2) Jar Bairn
3) Godfrey
4) Ranni
5) Radahn

Yes I am a sucker for the cute ones. Godfrey is the only character who understands us for he is also a Tarnished and is the only one of the main bosses who shows us any respect. Ranni because yes. Radahn because I beat him at level 50 pre-patch and he gave me the most memorable challenge out of all of them.

FINALLY

Oh they're tier 4 now? Awesome.

Also I'm currently on a Blaidd build for my second run. Surprisingly very easy. The only bosses to give me a big challenge are Malenia (of course) and now Elden Beast because **** it's stupid running away spamming bullshit

Something interesting I've found in a commentary

"All of the demigods have resurrective immortality. They can physically die, but after their bodies are killed, their souls still stick around and can be reattached to healed bodies later if they have followers devoted enough to go through with it. The lore behind the Walking Mausoleums and the Headless Soldiers is that they're housing and protecting the bodies of dead minor demigods whose souls have been disconnected from their bodies, until they can be resurrected, presumably after the Elden Ring is repaired. This is part of why Godwyn's death is considered so singularly notable and terrible, why the Godskin cult and their Queen were considered an existential threat to Marika, and why Maliketh was the one being every Demigod feared: Destined Death, manifested through the Rune of Death, Black Flame, and the Black Knives, is a power capable of killing a Demigod's body and soul."

I Don't know if we can confirm that but if it's a yes, the demigods coould all get Immortality type 4

A impractical type 4 immortality if you ask me lel, maybe we can slap "over time" on it?

Dunno if that's really Immortality Type 4 though. It's immortality that allows their soul to linger and wait for someone to rebuild their skinsuit.

Maybe. Could be a mix of multiple. Type 6, maybe Type 7. Type 6 is the most accurate I think, but with a restriction on their body- they need their own. Just rebuilt.

(Alert, enormous paragraph in approach, you've been warned). Something not tier related but interesting to note in-game, wich (for me) confirms Mohg is not only the most evil character but also the most dangerous character in the game. Why? Because he's the only one whose forces and power aren't on the decline. I mean, think about it for a second.

All the minor descendants of Marika (plus Godwyn) have been assassinated. Godrick is a pathetic excuse of a lord whose fiefdom is really just a ruined castle and his army is a bunch of traitors and criminals who can't even really impose order over Limgrave. Rennala, once the greatest sorceress in the LB, is a shell of her former self and so insane we're not even sure she's still aware of her surroundings and the Academy has locked itself to avoid contact with the outside world (not to mention the mages of the Academy being a group of sociopathic mad scientists and megalomaniacs performing experiments that would make the Mage's Association from Fate blush). Radahn had been reduced to a mindless animal who eats corpses of foes and allies alike and whose only shred of humanity left is for his horse and his Redmanes have either become ghosts eternally fighting or crazy survivalists trying to contain the Scarlet Rot at all costs. Ranni can't do anything until Radahn is dead and barely has any resources left. Morgott's fiefdom of Leyndell, while still relatively in good shape, is falling apart because he refuses to help fixing things. Malenia is comatose after blooming against Radahn and her soldiers are literally rotting away and confined to the borders of the Haligtree, wich is itself slowly rotting ever since Mohg kidnapped Miquella. Heck, even smaller-scale similary evil or dangerous people can't really do anything. Seluvis is too obviously evil for anyone to trust him and has lower (disturbing) objectives, the Dung Eater is trapped under Leyndell, needs someone to bring him his seeds to create his rune (and has to assume whoever helped him will follow through his plan after he dies), has no army at his disposal and can become one of Seluvis's puppets, Sellen is trapped and forced to astral project herself to communicate with the outside world and Gowry needs someone outside of him to manipulate Millicent who is fully refusing to bloom and won't unless you betray her.

Now take Mohg. Instead of losing underlings, he is actively adding to his forces, with willing followers that are Tarnished Bloody Fingers and Sanguine Nobles who are all very skilled at using blood Magic and overall very capable, plus potentially the player through pvp since he's literally the origin of pvp in the game. He has experimented on and corrupted countless Albinaurics who now obey him and are much stronger and faster than their normal kind and has blood zombies, dogs, giant crows at his disposal, all ready to be unleashed whenever he wants. His fiefdom is a castle that is extremely well-hidden and difficult to reach (unless you go through Varré's quest and even then, that means you will help Mohg), the only way being a portal in the Consecrated Snowfields, a very late-game area, and since he literally created Blood Incantations in the game, his influence is ridiculously spreading since even people who are not necessarily affiliated with him actually use his powers. And because his cult is growing, his own power is growing to since he gains strength from performing sacrifices for the Formless Mother. Also, since his castle is so difficult to reach, it's entirely possible to complete the game without finding him. This means that, no matter the ending, you've got one gigantic problem growing stronger until he's ready to unleash his power onto the LB and you have far fewer Tarnished to help this time (and the remaining demigods if you have not killed them all won't necessarily be able to defeat him in their current state and even the SR could be defeated by the FM with all the power Mohg has been gathering for the Formless Mother).

You know the worst? The only other demigod who has any shot at opposing Mohg...is Rykard. Yes, he has no army anymore (outside of the abominations he unleashed during the Siege) and his territory is very limited but he's still adding to his forces by recruiting Tarnished to help him and when he's not, he's devouring them to gain more strength.
So basically, the only two demigods who are genuinely growing in strength are a sadistic incestuous (and pedophile) blood cultist who experimented on various creatures to turn them into insane followers performing blood sacrifices in the name of a ********* Outer Goddess and a mass murderer and tortioner who willingly fed himself to an abomination to become a cannibalistic horror and intends to grow strong enough to devour the Gods and ultimately the whole world. Says something about how much of a shithole the situation is when the game tells you that the DUNG EATER is a better option than these two.

Malenia and Rykard are definitely the only people (sans Maliketh) who could oppose Mohg. But I feel like even Malenia would have it rough. Mohg has shown he's intelligent and crafty, the same way we can gain access to stuff that can rid one of Scarlet Rot or suppress it he likely could too if he had preparation and knew a fight with Malenia was inevitable. And like already said, her forces aren't exactly at the peak of their power.

Rykard is more tricky because only a specific weapon does a **** ton of damage to him, but it's not impossible to defeat him with other means. However, Mohg (and by proxy his forces) having the help of an Outer God really helps them out in a battle, as even if they were lacking power, bleed is the great equalizer that can take chunks away from people. It's one of the best status effects in the game and I don't recall if there's any counters to it.

Mohg is in an incredible position, and even in the boss vs boss battles he can in fact win against Malenia sometimes and it usually comes down to him or Malenia against the others. Of course that's just game mechanics but I think it is a bit reflective of the actual lore and their canon strengths as the only two demigods to actually wield godly strength (Mohg through channeling FM and Malenia through being the hostess for Rot).

For Rykard, the situation is kind of similar to Mohg in that he stays within his manor and the only way to access him is by a teleporter in the manor or thanks to Tanith. Less complicated than for Mohg since we know where the manor is...but to get there, you have to go through all the horrors of Mt Gelmir. Now killing all of that is possible, especially if you're Malenia, but the real problem is how completely wrong everything about Rykard is and the psychological effect it can have.

The soldiers of Leyndell were all very capable and strong-willed fighters devoted to the GW and they were so horrified by what they saw they went insane to the point of cannibalism to survive. It's also noteworthy to remember that the siege was the only offensive action taken by Morgott. He spent his time in Leyndell defending and fortifying the city against everyone else, including Radahn, and didn't even bother attacking the Haligtree wich he honestly could have done, yet for Rykard, he decided to launch an enormous invasion to invade Mt Gelmir, obviously because of his open declaration of blasphemy and rebellion against the GW and it's hinted he outright despised him even more than the other demigods (when talking about them before his boss fight, he is contemptuous about almost all of them but still relatively composed but for Rykard, if you pay attention he's almost spitting out of hatred) so he was clearly willing to kill Rykard. And despite this he still abandonned the siege, very likely because he saw just how horrific the whole situation was. And that's just what's on the Mt, not the manor itself, with all the snakes warriors, the torture devices, the Albinaurics still prisoners and pleading for their life in their cage (or begging you to kill them), etc, all of it on full display.
As for Rykard himself, it's not wrong, it's just straight-up and completely ******-up (and that's only for his visual appearence, we're not even digging into what exactly happens to his victims when he devours). Not to mention that, even if he's not as powerful or as skilled as Mohg, Ranni and co, Rykard is still very powerful and has very strong magma Magic and while it's possible to kill him by other means, the spear is really (both in mechanics and lore) the only weapon that can truly damage him to a really notable extent (the game even implies it's the only true weakness of the God-Devouring Serpent so canonically killing Rykard necessarily requires the spear, and unless you talk to the ghost, you can't know it and you're much likely to miss the weapon among the tons and tons of skeletons, skulls and snake skin in the area).

All other bosses in ER (even the Elden Beast): Utterly difficult, super hard to keep up with but you can still understand what's happening.

Also curious. Both Maliketh's Black Blade and the Serpent Hunter are said to utilize light in their attacks. There's also a Golem that can utilize glinstone like lasers and many other attacks that look like light, such as some of the Avatar attacks and Radagon's spam which I feel like have to be some of the fastest projectiles in the game.

And while we have the Tarnished dodging lightning as a feat, has anyone noticed the lighting doesn't come from clouds? If you glance up where lightning attacks happen they just kinda manifest, and even on the Mountaintops of the Giants which is noticeably above the clouds, the lightning can still happen despite no clouds being present. Thinking the lightning in the game could use more scrutiny

I've seen both personally

Honestly, what makes Malenia so absurdly cheat like hard are mostly the self Healing ability and waterfowl dance (and partially the clones move) otherwise she's horribly hard but not straight up unwinnable

Nihil is honestly a cheat like move in itself since even if you can protect yourself against it, Mohg will heal anyway

I got around Nihil pretty easy tbh. Just make sure you have enough flasks and HP. Otherwise you ******.

And it felt great to wreck his ass with the Malenia build lmao. That scarlet bloom go crazy.

Better to post this on the profiles thread

Maliketh's light is obviously just as a side effect of Destined Death. The Golem simply uses Glintstone and the Edtree Avatars likely use some form of Incantations or the raw power of the Edtree since they come from...well, the Edtree itself.
For the lightning, it is magical in nature and since it doesn't come the clouds, it's likely it's not summoned but actually conjured by the user (you do create spears of lightning in your hands after all). In Radagon's case, there's a theory that while he fight his body, it's not really him that we fight but the Elden Beast controlling him (Radagon doesn't utter a word during a fight, I don't recall him even emitting a grunt, his body is literally crumbling on itself and fueled by the Elden Ring being put where his organs should be, to the point it creates some sort of shadow arm to replace the one he lost, he doesn't use any of the Incantations he's supposedly a master of in the battle and when he loses, his body emits shadows from wich the Beast appears and turns his corpse into a sword) so it would be logical for "him" to unleash such light power.

As for the Serpent Hunter, aside from an obvious parallel with the Bible and Satan himself (you're using a holy spear emitting rays, slashes and beams of light to fight a formerly good demigod who rebelled against a divine order and merged himself with a gigantic snake to be capable of devouring and torturing souls of people he baits with promises of power and grandeur, all the while corrupting several champions in following him and aiming at devouring the gods themselves and ultimately the world and the whole fight has him summoning corrupted souls and waves of fire and magma in a dark and literally hellish cave filled with corpses), I have no idea where it comes from. All we know is that it's canonically the only thing that can truly harm the Serpent and that...fuckery Rykard became.
