Elden Ring General Discussion

Ok so I got to godrick and I gotta ask. Did bro just got the worst genes in the family cuz his hideous. Like godwyin and the blue chick seem to look pretty good but godrick looks like he needs a 24 baths
Godrick is meant to be kind of pathetic.

His power comes from the properties of his body being descendant of Marika who was a shaman and her flesh can 'meld harmoniously' with others. So to increase his power he 'grafts' the arms of tarnished warriors to him in a vain attempt to get stronger. Hence him cutting off his hand and being able to replace it with the Dragons head.

He's the runt of the Demi-God's, the worst of them. He's basically there to be like "So you see this guy? You see how strong and intimidating he is? Yeah by the other guy's perspectives he's a pathetic worm.".

And also it is implied that Godrick is a far descendent of the main godly bloodline and potentially a descendent of Godwyn. So he barely even qualifies as a Demi-God anyways. He is actually carried hard by his Great Rune which gave him the power to graft, the only thing he had going for him really. That's why he looks so hideous, like 98% of his body was grafted onto him.

Fittingly, Godrick, the first Demi-God you're meant to fight and the weakest, canonically had an encounter with Malenia, the last and strongest Demi-God you're meant to fight. And as you'd expect yeah she humiliated him and beat him into submission, making him beg for mercy at her feet.

Sometimes I almost feel a little bad for Godfrey for being so utterly pathetic. Then I remember he's also a ruthless evil disgusting scumbag that literally rips off people's arms and legs and puts them onto his body because he doesn't like them, in a pitiful attempt to be strong like the people he idolizes who want nothing to do with him. The fact HE calls us a lowly Tarnished unbefitting even to be grafted is a perfect demonstration of his character. He is pathetic and yet has a huge ego just for being basically a cousin of the Demi-God's. It's like someone calling you a peasant because they're a cousin of a descendant of a president lol.

Remember, every other leader of a faction in the game has loyal followers that would die for their leader. The Carian Royal Knights including the literal dragon never abandoned their rulers, Leyndell's soldiers never once forsake their homeland despite it being ruined and dismayed. The Redmane Soldiers not only made a wall of fire to stave off the rot but continue to battle the monsters created by it and held a literal festival of war to honor their general by giving him a warrior's death. And then you have the Cleanrot Knights who are so unthinkably loyal that one of them while injured and tired from war carried her unconscious leader across the entire continent fighting off every enemy along the way and actually made it, out of pure will alone.

Meanwhile all Godrick has are unfaithful servants all of whom are random unknown bandits and outcasts, many of whom outright hate him.

I'd say Godrick at least still has some knights in his castle. Rykard on the other hand...

Ok so what exactly is the greater will and the two fingers? from what I understand so far is that the Elden ring was scattered the blond chick went missing and her kids and descendants fought agianst each other over the shattered remains. And the greater will brought us back and guides us with grace. The fingers and the maidens help the tarnished. So what exactly are there connection?

Well the easiest summary is that the Greater Will is the personification of order and the creator of the universe. The fingers are what communicates the messages or impulses that the Greater Will sends out through the cosmos. Due to the greater magnitude of the greater will, it takes thousands of moons/years to translate any direct message from it according to Enia:
Shaken by this turn of events, they are busy consulting the Greater Will.
When they are finished, the Fingers will again offer their guidance.
But thousands, if not tens of thousands, of moons must first pass.

And the greater will brought us back and guides us with grace
The Greater Will left TLB's after Marika broke the ring. The guidance is Marika or the Fingers directing the PC rather than the GW. The Greater Will doesn't really care what happens in the world, just that there is an order in place. The Outer Gods (barring maybe one) for example aren't rivals to the Greater Will as much as beings that are not within the current dominate order.

It could imply that the Greater Will is some kinda 4D reality bending god and that ER has a multiverse.
Tbf all Soulsborne titles are multiverses (except Sekiro if you count it as one), that's how the multi-player works even though it's not always clearly stated cus not everyone can be as helpful as Solaire

Tbh the FInger readers are translating second hand information already.

It's heavily implied that they dont get messages from the GW directly because Metyr is broken and abandoned already and existed prior to all of the Fingers if she is their mother.

The tubes in Metyrs arena seem to imply to me that she is the one sending messsages to the Two Fingrers from some sort of weird pocket reality she made in the same way the Elden Beast seemingly can conjure a pocket realm for itself.

Speaking of Metyr, did she actually die in that fight? It looked like she just teleported away and we know it's possible to get a remembrance without killing the enemy as shown with Rennala.

Well yeah, but like, I didn't want to spoil them on that plot twist.

I mean, yeah. The weapons you get from her remembrance are crafted from her body
Staff fashioned from the tail-fingers of Metyr, the Mother of Fingers, and the microcosm raised aloft over the crux they form. Catalyst for casting both sorceries and incantations. The Mother received signs from the Greater Will from the beyond of the microcosm. Despite being broken and abandoned, she kept waiting for another message to come.
The head of Metyr, the finger-mother, wielded as a weapon without modification. From within the center of the fingerprint that wrinkles the creature's foremost protrusion, a tiny wart-like eye gazes vacantly into the beyond.

Maybe she's not actually dead, we just severed a part of her. It's very weird that everyone gets a turn into dust death but her of all creatures gets something unique
