Elden Ring General Discussion

Just letting y’all know I’m hoping to finish working on updating the character section of the verse page with better organization and categorization. If anyone is interested in helping or seeing what I have done, the sections I have completed are on the bottom of my second sandbox.

Outside of that I plan on helping out soon with DLC pages, and I’m looking to try out some new calcs, or finish ones I’ve had on the backburner for a bit.
ER profiles are pre bad in general so any help is good.

Yeah I'll probably work on them in the future too. Just the visuals of the main page hurt my head lol.

I get that the bosses are just classified by what it says on the screen when they die, but we could do A LOT better.
How are you doing it? By races? “Ancient Dragons”, “Drakes”, “Tarnisheds”, “Elden Lords”? This sounds like the ideal no?

These are the current categories I have in mind.
  • Outer Gods & Celestial Forces (Greater Will, Frenzied Flame, etc.)
  • Star Beasts (Elden Beast, Metyr, etc.)
  • Gods (Marika, The Fell God, etc.)
  • Lords (Godfrey, Radagon, the Tarnished MC, etc.)
  • Empyreans (Ranni, Miquella, etc.)
  • Shadowbound Beasts
  • Demigods
  • Ancient Dragons
  • Drakes
  • Hornsent/Crucible Beings
  • The Eternal Cities/Nox
  • The Fire Giants (although I may just have this one be flame adjacent people like the fire monks and prelates)
  • The God Hunt
  • Carians
  • The Tarnished
  • The Golden Order
  • Those Who Live in Death
  • Spirit Ashes

The general idea is to list the main pantheon, and then have the rest be in chronological order. There are definitely many more categories I can add, but these are the ones I have in mind.

What version of death y'all find the best?

Destined death?
Deathblight?
Ghostflame?
Black flame?

Personally black flame but because they refuse to make more black flame stuff, Ghostflame

Destined Death is the most badass appearance wise, literally being the concept of death forged into a force purely designed to kill anything and everything.

Deathblight is the most realistic being the most visceral and disgusting. Most deathblight enemies are infested with roots and worms; it really brings the idea that there is nothing appealing about it whatsoever.

Ghostflame is the most interesting story wise. It’s a cold fire fueled by lost souls, burned as a rite to bring them into the afterlife. It’s really thematic and interesting how it opposes the Erdtree.

Finally, Black Flame is the most practical and useful. It’s just a cool, twisted inversion of normal fire. I feel like it takes qualities of the other three and blends them well into a Jack of all trades

TL;DR, Fromsoft made death cool in 4 different flavors

Destined Death and Ghostflame are my fave, especially the latter
Shame that there's no major bosses that used and mastering Ghostflame beside the Rite Birds

Main theme by far. Seeing Radagon hold up that hammer was too sick. Still best moments in game.

Second for me Elden Beast cutscene it really captured a majestic higher being

I remember the first time I defeated Radagon and suddenly, that a galaxy-shaped dragon-like thing emerges out of his body, turns him into a sword, generates a cloud of stars and creates a dimension with a nebulae and tons of Erdtrees stretching seemingly without end and I was like: "WTF?!?". It was both terrifying and majestic. The music is incredible. The environment, the boss design, the fact that it attacks with beams of golden light, creates constellations, stars and galaxies and even uses the Elden Ring itself as a move to attack you. It really gave you the feeling you were fighting something divine in the most esoterical and literal sense of the word.

At first I hated it because it kept running away but Elden Beast my favorite fight now that I know it's moves

Ok so I got back on Elden ring and I went to the two fingers to see what new dialogue they had for me after getting two great runes. And apparently queen marika is sealed in an erdtree cuz she shattered the ring and now the two fingers want me to go clap her cheeks to become the Elden lord?

Pretty much. Once you get two Great Runes, you can just go straight for Leyndell, the Royal Capital, in the Altus Plateau to enter the Erdtree. You can also try to get the other Great Runes via various quests

I was not expecting the hot blue chick to be ranni
Ranni using her (possible) Aunt's codename wasn't a bad idea. Unfortunately everyone in TLB have terrible naming conventions so the entire family is just: Renna, Rennala, Rellana and Ranni making it pretty obvious on who's who.

15. Godfrey, First Elden Lord (phase 1)
For me:

1. Bayle the Dread (CURSE YOU BAYLE) nah seriously I'm in love with this song I've listened to it in the car and shit.

2. The Final Battle

3. Godfrey/Hoarah Loux (Mostly Hoarah Loux though)

4. Morgott, the Omen King.

5. Lichdragon Fortissax

6. The Promised Consort/Miquella (phase 2 is pretty much Miquella's theme imo)

7. Gigascourge Chadahn (OG Radahn theme)

8. Mohg (even better if it's the edit with his phase transition dialogue, NIHIL)

9. Godrick the Grafted

10. Margit, the Fell Omen

11. Malenia (Which was actually Margit's original theme)

12. Rykard's theme (phase 1 theme kinda mid, but phase 2 is great)

13. Divine Beast Dancing Lion

14. Godskin Apostle (used to be way higher like top 5 but kinda fell off for me)

15. Dragon's theme (Agheel and whatnot)

Ngl I thought Messmer's theme is kinda weak. Like it's not bad musically but it doesn't have enough force and impact for my liking.

8. Midra, Lord of Frenzied Flame

10. Rellana, Twin Moon Knight
For me:

1. Godfrey/Hoarah Loux (again mostly Hoarah Loux. Still my favorite character in the game)

2. Gigascourge Chadahn (what I consider to be the best fight in the game just not my personal favorite)

3. Radahn, Consort of Miquella (phase 1 is great, his attacks are similar enough that you it actually feels like you're fighting Radahn, just in a very different circumstance and state of being, but phase 2 is just incredible theatrically. A bit too hard for sure but man the afterimage thing and the repeat of the Radahn meteor is so cool, and I adore Ansbach's final dialogue. "Righteous Tarnished. Become our new lord. A lord not for gods, but for men..." shit literally gave me chills when I first heard it)

4. Messmer the Impaler (absolute CINEMA)

5. Bayle the Dread (probably 7 or 8 without Igon the GOAT but he carries it, him and the theme)

6. Mohg, Lord of Blood (peak boss design and one of the most iconic phase transitions of the decade so far, the most iconic in the game besides Radahn of course)

7. Midra, Lord of Frenzied Flame (one of my favorite "secret bosses" ever, his moveset and animations perfectly fit him. The uncanny yet elegant way he moves around is just immaculately designed and I would struggle to imagine a better boss, the only thing holding him down here for me is that his arena is pretty lame. Like you're literally fighting a failed avatar of a world-ending abstract cosmic entity that could theoretically threaten the world had things played out differently, in a tiny wooden room)

8. Maliketh (phase 1 pretty weak both literally and metaphorically, phase 2 is great but the theme is kinda mid and I'm not sure how much I like glass cannon's)

9. Rykard (phase 1 mid but again I love phase 2, but I'm not a huge fan of gimmick bosses where it's almost impossible to beat the boss without using a specific method)

10. Morgott, the Omen King (only thing holding him back is that he's just too easy and his attacks are a bit too similar to Margit's. If they gave him a balance of familiarity like with Radahn it would've been better)

11. Placidusax (camera problems with his size hold him back but overall really good and cinematic, man the phase transition is sick)

12. Radabeast (I love Radagon and if phase 2 was on par with Radagon it'd probably be top 6 or 5, but I still am not a huge fan of the Elden Beast. I mean design and lore-wise the Elden Beast is sick, but with literally no build-up outside of a single item description for a spell that sucks dick and a questionable battle design, it actually waters down the final boss for me. Huge spectacle boss but in terms of actual substance the Elden Beast is mid, Radagon specifically however is genuinely close to a perfect boss)

13. Rellana (Absolute fire boss, great moveset, I love the way she dances around, her Twin Moon attack is just sick, but having no cutscene, no dialogue, and a pretty mid build-up and arena holds her back)

14. Astel (feels like you're fighting a legitimate alien being different from anything else in the Lands Between, but otherwise it's kinda mid)

15. Divine Beast Dancing Lion

16. Rennala (mid battle design imo but holy hell does the arena carry her, and every fantasy game needs that one cheesy spellcaster boss, and man the first time I heard "Come, Oathsworn Dragon!")

17. Metyr, Mother of Fingers (huge spectacle boss, I love the black hole attack, and the lore is sick, esp the arena design, but take those things away and Metyr is kinda mid ngl)

18. Romina, Saint of the Bud (Don't @ me but genuinely I hated this boss when I fought her. And I still don't like her battle design, but overall she has a pretty cool arena, lore, and character design so I struggle to put her below the next few)

19. Putrescent Knight (Not terrible but the boss is just kinda boring to me and not memorable)

20. Commander Gaius (Hard to believe this guy is a major boss)

21. Fire Giant (Cope. Fire Giant is still the worst boss in the base game minus maybe the Godskin Duo or Magma Wyrm, he's not a terrible boss overall but he is terrible by ELDEN RING standards, which are vastly above most of the game industry at this point, he does have some spectacle value but it's hard to give that credit when any build besides long-range is constantly staring at his feet)

22. Magma Wyrm (You already know why it sucks)

23. Godskin Duo (Still genuinely loathe this boss and think it was FromSoft's worst boss in Elden Ring)

Ranni using her (possible) Aunt's codename wasn't a bad idea. Unfortunately everyone in TLB have terrible naming conventions so the entire family is just: Renna, Rennala, Rellana and Ranni making it pretty obvious on who's who.
After that the newborn sisters of R branch Rinna has appeared and she will lobotomized Griffiquella and Ran I to become the new Empyrean with ghostflame as her arsenal
