Astral Projection vs Soul Rip

I've been thinking about what would happen between these two abilities. Let's say I put MCU Doctor Strange against Kratos and both of them have equal stats that doesn't make it a stomp. Strange has already used his astral projection ability prior to the fight and Kratos uses the Claws of Hades to rip his soul out. What will happen in this scenario?

Kratos would be able to absorb his soul because there is no reason they can physically grab a soul when it's inside a body but not do the same if it's outside the body.

Case by case analysis most of the time tho, I guess.

Hmm, okay. Let's say I switch Kratos for Shao Kahn or Yhwach or any soul stealer that's higher than Kratos. I pit them against the Silver Surfer whose soul is in another plane, the Astral Plane in particular. Will their soul steal work this time?
