Death Battle Season Ten Discussion Thread (1) (All-time Death Battle Spoilers Alert)

Thing with 50 people working per ep is, we dont know how much each person actually contributes. So likely for buck-to-work ratio its possible one months salary means work for multiple episodes.

Ultra can you say that you managed to keep access to YT Channel? Thats all we really need for DBs future specifically.
 
One of the big reasons I have been glamoring for them getting the IP is that well, they already surely worked on S11 before March, right? So if they fail to get license to use DB, they could even need to scrap full episodes. And god forbid, they might not be allowed to use ideas from those eps either. There would be biiig losses for progress if they cant keep DB and that would suck. Reminder that they worked on GalactusUnicron for years. We could lose A LOT of progress we dont know about.
 
Well, the recent announcement told basically nothing, but it seems like Death Battle will continue in some form even when Rooster Teeth is shut down.

Death Battle might be the most valuable IP they owned, so it would have been bad if it had gone to waste.

Apparently I didn't post the update I edited for said chart back in March, so... let me dig out the last time I did... let's see...


God, it's been a long-ass time since I've whipped this out. A lot of it has been patching in ideas I've already mentioned throughout the past few months of these threads, but others have been overhauls of character spreads. Let's go down the list and see what's interesting:

- Shulk has been overhauled with Stocke as his best MU, for reasons referenced multiple times. Sora, Zael and Kirito are still viable, though.

- Emeralda now has some actually coherent MUs aside from Morgana. Sage has the whole 'learning familial warmth' thing despite being an artificial being created by egotistical scientists (Kim Kasim and Eggman respectively), and Aht (can you tell I've been on a Radiant Historia high as of late?), while not being as 'familial' in her themes, still has that temporal and conceptual awareness shared with both Sage and Emeralda (it's made apparent early she's aware of Historia's existence because of her rose as a Shaman), all the while riding Stocke's coattails operated by her childlike understanding of the world.

- Kevin Winnicott has Rose Quartz patched in, for reasons explained here. Egil also got Senator Armstrong back after a playthrough of MGRR making it apparent to me how much I slept on 'man behind the curtain' and 'you're not all that different' archetypes (something these two share).

- Nia has Eli Ayase (no, I am not joking) as her current (?) best MU, for reasons explained here. Eunie gets access to Syrenne, the relations being foul-mouthed 'British' mercs with one traumatised memory to their names. This overhauls Lysethia and Yukari MUs as a result.

- Riku and Manana get Tony and Pepper as MU(s), for reasons eluded to here.

- Ghondor now has Akane Hasegawa as an MU. See something about shitty parents and their circumstances.

- Triton's MUs have been overhauled to have Archie in the front seat. Both are either sympathetic antagonists, or opposition to the very same (as well as being pirates), depending on which version of G3 you're playing (Triton being ex-Moebius, and Team Aqua either being that antagonist, or opposing Team Magma). That's the long and short of it, anyway.

Let's get some of the loose stuff out of the way (because to be fair, there's a LOT that has changed since), and then we get to the big MU ideas I've had since the Sympho' binge. Starting with...

  • A lot of the Future Redeemed MUs have been given new coats of paint since the last (?) time I bought this chart up. I've already made trailers around Glimmer vs Maki and Nikol vs Morgan, so theoretically, you know where to find those writeups. Although knowing that Discord linking has been a bit jank as of late, so for those that need a refresher on the latter:

  • As a Corollary to the above, A vs Rose (Legend of Dragoon) is now a thing, with Matthew vs Dart there to make it a 2v2. Matthew vs Dart's relations being that they're both hot-heads with 'sister-figures' (Shana being Dart's childhood friend, whom Dart treats like a 'little sister' being a running gag throughout both their arcs, and Matthew's relationship to Na'el being biological), both women who end up captured for the endgame at some point. A vs Rose's relations being that they're both related to said endgame villains in some way (With Rose being both the Black Monster that decimated Neet, AND the former love interest of Emperor Zieg who was brainwashed by Melbu Frama, and A being an aspect of Alvis/Alpha that split off from him when the Ontos core crystal was re-awakened), and act as 'big sister' figures in and of themselves (Rose is technically Dart's biological mother if you look hard enough) to Dart and Matthew. Oh, and Dragoons and Ouroboros makes for good animation potential. Should probably mention that.
  • KOS-MOS vs Megaman.exe is a last minute edition. 'Maiden of Mary' stuff being tantamount to the dead baby brother or whatever is the main relation, but other than that, we've had this discussion before.
  • After playing through the SMT: Digital Devil Saga duology (and not liking it very much...), Eunie vs Cielo is the only MU pertaining to said duology that I'm willing to dignify with a response. This one is solely predicated on banter potential (Eunie/Taion, and Gale/Cielo being comedy duos in their own right(s)), and themes of death (10-term limit, and ascents to Nirvana/The Sun) being parts of their stories. Oh, and also Ouroboros and Demon Forms having animation potential in the same way FR Ouroboros and Dragoons do.
And now...
We get to the Symphogear MUs.
  • Yukine Chris vs Bartholomew Fatima is mostly here because (at the very least) it's better than I-401 as an MU. Both start out as rival-figures to Hibiki and Fei respectively, before becoming part of the heroes rag-tag group, while having hot-headed idealisms about personal strength and the like. Oh, and also childhood beatings and trauma, Chris being sexually punished by one of the incarnations of Fine in the early episodes of S1, a villain taking control of Ryoko Sakurai, and Bart taking a quite literal whipping from Shakhan's coup in Margie's stead (and if it's any food for thought, Miang, the essence in Xenogears that could be in 'any woman at any time' is something he helps discover, similar to how Fine and eventually Shem-ha is treated at the end of Symphogears as a series). Using the Yggdrasil boat that Bart captains and HQ that S.O.N.G commandeers also works into animation potential here. SIDE NOTE: If you're wondering why I'm not suggesting Hibiki vs Fei... I'm mostly cautious about 'redundancy rule' stuff. There's a reason I've been struggling to find good Karen Travers MUs despite not just defaulting to N (XC3), because Noah vs Yuito is just a better MU (who happens to be edited onto this chart for reasons also previously discussed).
  • Now, the second MU you might have noticed looks like Kirika vs Dominia... and it's not. Why? Because the MU in question is actually Nastassja's F.I.S squad (Maria, Kirika and Tsukuyomi) vs the Elements (Dominia, Seraphita, Tolone and Kelvena) - I only made it look otherwise because I didn't want 1 MU occupying 3-4 different slots on the chart. Long and short of it is that the children of said F.I.S squad and the Elements are 'artificial' members (yet bespoke picks for a given purpose) of their respective worlds (Nastassja's children being subjected to experiments to find a candidate to be Fine's next vessel (Receptor Children), to say nothing of LiNKER as a plot element that Kirika and Tsukuyomi come to rely on for... reasons I admittedly don't quite understand, and the Elements being a title of Ether Users within Solaris, pioneered by Ramsus, someone suffering from an inferiority complex due to Fei and the role Ramsus was born into, as well as being a clone of Cain). The Elements are not characters I was expecting to find MUs for, but leave it to Symphogear fans, I guess.
  • Tsubasa... now you are an interesting case, and I've put her under Rex's MUs not because she has relations to Rex specifically... but Mythra definitely does (and to a lesser extent Pyra and Pneuma, but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it). Specifically, both have premonitions and trauma about the power they wield (Tsubasa seeing Kanade die before her eyes after use of Swan Songs at the stadium that gave Hibiki Gungnir's power by accident, leading Tsubasa to not trust Hibiki when re-awakening that power 2 years later, and Mythra having sincere trust issues with anyone but Addam during TTGC, before Malos forces her to max out her power by killing Milton during the Aegis War, constructing Pyra as 'another side of herself' that trusts Rex despite Mythra's initial distrust after Vandham's death in Olethro/Uraya). You could make the argument that Sinji being Tsubasa's 'manager' is a front similar to how Rex later has doubts about being a driver, but there's not a lot beyond that. Past this point, it's chicks with swords, and lots of Animation potential. Not much else to say, really.

And with that... we have one other MU - one revolving around a character that I've struggled to find MUs for a good long while. Until now...

Egil (XC1) vs Carol Malus Dienheim (Symphogear GX).​

  • Both were ordinary citizens of 'other' designated cultures in their worlds (The Machina and Alchemists respectively) before calamity struck (Zanza's attack on Mechonis, and the burning of Carol/Elfnein's father Izak suspected of blaspheming via creation of 'Miracles' and burned at the steak). Both then became revenge-sworn to destroy those same opposing worlds (in Egil's case, the Bionis, for the lives taken from his people, and for Zanza possessing Arglas, while Carol just straight up wanted the world 'dissected' and destroyed).
  • Both lead armies of their creations (modified or otherwise) into battle alongside themselves, with Egil having the ability to construct Mechon at will (although for the Faces, that is left to his sister Vanea, who, to quote Miqol 'doesn't want to hurt Egil, but doesn't like what he's doing'), and Carol, as an Alchemist, having access to Alca-Noise (a form of Noise able to basically cleave Gear armour apart), as well as the Autoscorers (similar to how Egil sees use for the Faces even after Shulk receives Monado II) and Homunculi.
  • As touched upon above, Vanea and Elfnein were also previously assistants for both (Vanea escorting the party up the Mechonis, creating Face Nemesis (Fiora's revived body) to eventually backstab Egil, and rejecting her 'right to exist' after the revelation that Egil was dead set in his ways in Agniritha, and Elfnein being 'another one of Carol's bodies', that ran off at the beginning of GX, but eventually helps S.O.N.G with the construction of counters to Alca-Noise's anti-gear tech). It's worth noting that Elfnein in AXZ taking steps to 'revive' Carol using fragments of her memories after the donation of Carol's body to Elfnein due to her condition at the time could be considered a 'similar contrast' of a sort, in that it's a neat what-if Egil was an Avatar recreated in Origin in 3 (he isn't, but that brings us on to...).
  • Returning to Egil and Carol, both end up taking a 'last stand' vs the God-tiers of their universe, with Egil having 'waited for the day' he could confront Zanza and attempt to cut him down, eventually giving his blessings to Shulk and Mayneth to break the curse of Zanza, and Carol coming back in Elfnein's body in time to confront Shem-Ha and buy time, even helping all the Symphogears with the ultimate Swan Song (/Superb Song, whichever term you prefer to use) vs her.
There's probably stuff I've said, but this post has run overdue.

I mean if you ignore all of the Doctor's higher end stats like the episode did to make the episode not come off as a complete stomp that's not a wrong interpretation you can have.
 
Huh, technically DB said that Rick's devices can destroy timelines. I dont think they gave Doctor Multiversal feats, just listed the big shit in popup without saying how strong those are.
