A fair versus battle that we deserved (Elder Scrolls)

Vestige is stronger going by feats.

Barbas was still stronger than the Dovahkiin even when massively weakened due to being separated from Clavicus Vile and further limited by the barriers protecting Mundus from Oblivion, which at the time of Skyrim were yeeted into permanency by the Avatar of Akatosh. The Dovahkiin, in turn, could only kill Barbas using the Rueful Axe.

Meanwhile the Vestige fought and defeated Barbas in a time where the barriers were far weaker, while the dog was still at Vile's side, and thus at Full Power (Still limited by the Mundus of course, but he was probably stronger than his weakened state which appears in Skyrim)

Yeah, The Vestige is awesome but how can he handle the full might of the second most powerful Dragonborn alive. I mean our hero's Thu'um.

Dovahkiin's spam of Bend Will and other implications of Thu'um can be troublesome.

To be fair, despite the Vestige having better feats, the Thu'um is superior to most forms of magic in terms of hax as Kong suggests.

Matthew was right on one aspect that Vestige busted way more hax than Dovahkiin. His skills in multiple class are quite insane as well as the hero had personally played around with legendary figures like Mannimarco or Shalidor.

Again, the issue that I still have a little bit as an obstacle: Thu'um. Yes, Vestige busted tons of hax but he lacks the high principle ability of reality warping like Tonal Architecture or even Dawn Magick. Dovahkiin got one of them, and it can be quite a difficult challenge to deal with although the Vestige fought against an undead dragon before.

If I took the word of Neloth and Herma-Mora considering Dovahkiin as the current most powerful ever, then he would likely able to use Ysmir's "Shaking Dragon" shout or a Nordic girl's probability manipulation shout from Vivec's lessons. Otherword, Dovahkiin is not going down easy.

Just wondering, what evidence is there that Barbas is stronger than the Dovahkiin, aside from him being invulnerable in the game?

Because as far as invulnerability goes, other characters also have it, like Brynjolf.

Even so, why would only the Rueful axe be able to kill Barbas, logically?

You canonically need the Rueful Axe to kill Barbas, Vile sends you on a quest to find it, and makes it pretty clear that Barbas can't be killed by you with anything but the axe. The fact that Barbas only becomes killable if you have the Rueful Axe in hands towards the very end of the quest shows him being invulnerable is a different case than some random NPC you can't kill because gameplay reasons.

Even comments from NPCs support that notion, like a guard saying the Axe seems sharp enough to "cut through a God", nevermind that the thing was given to a sorcerer by Vile himself, so it being the only thing capable of killing Barbas isn't much of a stretch.

I must have missed the part where Clavicus says you can only kill him with the axe. When does he say that? Would you by extension argue that the axe is the most powerful weapon in the game?

Either way, I wouldn't think random guards an authority on what kills gods. From their perspective, it's just a metaphor.

I think the very context of both the Quest and what he says makes it clear the Axe is the one thing that can kill Barbas. The whole plot is he sending you on a quest to recover it so you can successfully kill the dog, the fact that Barbas is only killable if you use the Rueful Axe, like I said, shows that his Invulnerability in-game is way different from that of a random NPC who can't be killed because of gameplay / quest reasons.

They aren't the biggest authority on that matter, yeah, but it still shows that the intent was that the Axe is powerful enough to harm a God. Especially since Vile (The original wielder of the Axe) himself says it is extremely powerful, and later describes it as a cosmic artifact near the end of the quest.
