What games got you the most of your money's worth? Mods are on the table. Here are some of mine:

  • Unreal Tournament - Fantastic gameplay, bots, tons of maps, great modding community, mutators to alter gameplay. This is the real deal.
  • Towerfall: Ascension - You might not know about this one. It's an arena-based platformer in which you pick up arrows with various abilities and utilize your amazing mobility to get the upper hand on your opponents. Lots of gamemodes, mutators, and mods!
Share some of your favorites below!

-Ace Combat Zero

No one knows this game, but I can literally play this game once a week and not get bored, story, characters, gameplay, has it all.

-Symphony of the Night

I love this game like it was a brother, he gives you a lot of trouble, but you ultimately love him

I like how in Pokemon and SotN the games have so much content that you can become really overpowered if you know what you're doing.

EDIT: Oh, and Binding of Isaac, too! Lots of RNG but it works somehow. Enter the Gungeon has a similar draw.

@Gargoyle

You brought up AC:0. I think that even games without that much content, such as the single-player focused Half-Life series, can be replayable if you really dig it. Though HF and lots of other single-player focused PC shooters tend to have lots of mods, anyway.

Not too say it doesn't have a lot of content.

3 different paths multiple missions to take, bonus missions, aircraft records.

And SOMEONE PLEASE LINK ZERO! It's the best song in AC

520 hours into The Binding of Isaac and it still doesn't feel old so it takes it for me.

Gungeon is also a good candidate.

Also Civilization V

The first two that come to mind are Minecraft due to randomized infinite worlds and Pokemo due the nearly endless amount of combinations of teams you can develop
Wait I take this back

Paradoxes 5 simulators (CK2, EU4, Victoria 2, HOI4, and Stellaris) have way more replay value, to such a degree it's literally insane.

Xcom Both the 1994 version AND the 2012 version (and its Sequal)

Not only do to the fact that most battles Always feel differnt thanks to RNG It's always fun to try differnt builds on your soldiers.

And the game is just fun to replay even if a bit frustrating going from OP soldiers to base soldiers

Definitely Super Mario, the original one. I still play it every once in a blue moon.

@Jester btw, how similar is XCOM to fire emblem? (In terms of gameplay)
Um It's simaler in terms of You get a turn then your enemy gets a turn And it's tile based

But I wouldn't call it to simaler

Ok, cause I wanted to get some insight from another player before trying the games out.

The Ratchet and Clank game usually comes to mind due to the variety of weaponry. It can super fun giving yourself challenges like only specific weapons, or only being able to shoot while jumping, or only using firearms in mandatory situations.

@theglassman12 Oh I do recommend it Especially if you don't play on casual in fe since permenent death is a thing for your troops in Xcom Actually I recommend Xcom in general so long as you can deal with RNG screwing you over occasionally oh also Xcom and Fire emblem use 2 Diffrent RNG systems

Civilization IV is the best, man. Been playing it on and off since I as 14 and I still have a blast. I'm still learning new stuff about the game. Hell, 6 years in and I'm still horrible at it, yet I still have a good time all the time. The modding community is great, too. Fall From Heaven II, Rise and Fall of Civilization, Caveman to Cosmos, the Star Trek mod, ******* Colonization 2071! So good.

World of Warcraft, It can take forever to discover all the locations of the game and play all the classes.

In average, I finish Ape Escape 3 times at the year, never get bored of that game. Other games but not as often are Crash Bandicoot (1, 2 and CTR), Castlevania SotN, Dino Crisis 2, Soul Reaver, Ty the Tasmanian Tiger (1 and 2), Soul Nomad, Pokemon HG and Stronghold (1 and 2).

Pokemon, I maxed out in game hours on, ruby, emerald, diamond, white, y. Smash obviously, super metroid is good too.

@Sheoth

I've played Civs 1-5 + Colonization (Original and Remake). Civ V and Civ IV are neck and neck for me. Civ V is more technically solid, has a more fleshed out battle system and a lot of cool features, but IV has a lot more depth and it's a ton of fun to make a 40+ city mega-civilization. That said, Civ IV warfare is pretty awful, it usually boiled down to Stacks of Doom. Still, Civ V is a close second for my favorite Civ game.

Plus, Civ IV is narrated by Leonard Nimoy. That's pretty awesome.

OFF. This game really messes with your mind, and every single time you play, you see the game in a new way

I used to be a big fan of civilization. Then I discovered Paradox also made historic simulators.

...

Ever since playing them, Civilization looks so unrealistic, and so simplified, and so historically innacurate, and so, everything worse in comparison.

Don't kill me civ fans please...

Paradox games are good too, but I prefer the simplicity of Civ. Even Civ IV, which is very deep and mechanically sound is a fairly simplistic strategy game. They're fun to get into and continue playing for years on end.

One thing I will admit about paradox games is that they are sometimes a bit too complicated. Civilization can easily be understand to pick up and play. Meanwhile I couldn't play any Paradox simulator (except stellaris) even after playing through the tutorial without looking stuff online
