What does a baseline planet busting attack LOOK like?

Most of the time in fiction, they make planet busts look super impressive, by sending the fragments scattering all over the place, resulting in Large Planet level results.

Which begs the question, what does a planet bust that actually gets planet level results even look like?

My guess would be an incredibly slow dispersion of the planets volume strong enough to overpower the gravity of the planet, but nothing more.
