Gather round the fire
Lest you earn their ire
Creatures of the dark
With frightful bite and bark

A quiet night this is
A rarity we'll miss
With no screams and folly
Let me tell you a story

So many to pick from
All bleak and humdrum
But this one's quite long
So please listen along

Prologue

It started at a town
Fog and darkness all around
Only a single soul living
Yet the dead stayed moving

This young woman just looking for some pay
Controlled by evil powers, a slave if you may
Yet that wasn't the only one pulling on her strings
For fate too wanted a go with these this things

Now she finds herself roped into this tale
And it begins with her walking by a trail

Thock, thock. High heels, sandals of black, walking amongst the dry soil, cracking leaves as a the random pattern continues it's chaotic harmony. Clink clank, metal and chain, accompanying the baltering beat, the sheathe bumping towards clothed flesh.

"Let's see..."

Her soft fingers reached inside the slit near her clothes— a pocket— pulling a piece of paper from it. She unveiled what appears to be the guild quest ordered to her, with a little note about her not to laze around and forget it, "Ah... great..." causing her eyes to roll up as she breathed out.

Brown hair danced along as she continued her stride, combing it with an otherwise invisible one as she rearranged some bronze decoration clipped on the strands, slowly groaning as it caused slight discomfort.

Her white and black attire, unseen of some slave— either dressed to maker her look different or otherwise from someone else, her chin was lifted to the magnetic sky as she gave it a little glance before shaping her mouth into a "U" or bowl shape— smiling— before moving down, and handling the guard of her sword.

The guild's quest was simple, clear this entire town of any hostile beings which besides all the fog and that wretched stench, nothing appears to be present

The woman had a finger kept on her nose, wandering around as her eyes had its own separate journey.

The noises weren't particularly noteworthy. Rancid water dripping onto the metal pipes, sand and leaves rustling from the wind as they're dragged through the ground, creaking from various hinges in the houses all around

Out of curiosity or simply letting her intrusive thoughts win, she gave one of the houses a visit and sent a little knock.

Of course, not every thought she has led to anything productive, not even the will to bring herself to participate. With a deepened sigh, she shook her head and went onward.
The sounds continued to persist from every alley and house, the fog seemingly thickening as she advanced

She stepped further into the fog, her hand aligned with her forehead as she pushed onward.
A slight glint was seen from the fog, followed by that hand falling to the ground.

An audible groan was heard in front of her, similar noises heard all around while that wretched stench only grew stronger

Like thorns piercing her skin, her right hand drew her sword in response.

"Hooo..."

Breathing out, her eyes and feet synced up as she hits the reverse snd went back slowly, her turret like behavior — scanning them.

Lifeless eyes and scant glints of weaponry were all she saw from the fog before a powerful bite was felt on her shoulder, drawing first blood in this fight

Her white clothes stained, she spun around and swung the blade behind her.
The blade went through rotten flesh and fragile bones, forming a large gash on her assailant's head as it groaned.

A rotting corpse stood behind her, standing and moving in a way unnatural yet very much living

Wasting no time, she went for a thrust to the head, before swinging down— attempting to cut them in half.

Should her previous attack be successful, she'd then throw the sword behind her, landing somewhere on the torso.

The undead didn't flinch, feeling no pain yet not agile enough to dodge such an attack. The wreathed stench and flies were exposed from its rotten innards which spilled onto the ground

The sword pierced another undead, causing it to stumble for a moment before continuing to walk alongside its brethren, seemingly unaffected by this normally fatal wound

"..."

No pain— not even a way to fight back or retaliate; fighting like this would only waste energy.

She slowly got up, picked the sword with haste and made her way through the undead, calmly slashing their heads and limbs, blocking should they actually attack.

They marched on despite the dismemberment, piling all around her until one managed to get a grip onto her leg, a powerful bite almost severing her foot

"Ngh!"

In an attempt to get them off, there was something else the undead bit. It was hard, sharp, and solid.

Chains covered the leg as it wrapped around their neck, pulling it away and ripping it apart should it make contact.

This moment of hesitation allowed some of the undead to stab and hack at her, axes, spears, blades were piercing her body and causing more and more injuries upon her

"Augh!"

The worst wasn't the pain, not even the injuries she obtained. It was the fact that...

"At least go for the face!"

She unleashed a flurry of sword strikes, slashes and thrusts, accompanied by her chains piercing through their flesh, trying to force her way out.

"It's getting e-~~verywhere, yuck.."

Her limbs felt as if they were aching, a searing pain spreading all across her as she did

She slowly regained her bearings as she prepared for another attack, trying to get off blood from her already stained clothes as quickly as she could.
Before she could raise her hand however, it suddenly locked in place, refusing to move no matter what she did

Her eyes widened as she tried to struggle up to no avail, finding her body held by some unknown force. As much as she wanted to get out, her clothes are of the highest priority.

Before she could take another step, her legs too suddenly locked in place and with a nudge from one of the dismembered undead, she fell face first into the barely moving corpses around her

She had no thoughts in moving, though the nudge did made her land downward. However, her mind did have thoughts about using her chains as tendrils and try getting up, as well as attempting to speak... if that's even possible.

Her jaw had locked up sometime after this, all while the undead began to swarm on around her...

"fire" a quiet voice chanted in the distance. In an instant, a fiery explosion bathed all the undead around her. A number of explosions are heard as the flames illuminated the fog, showing the undead burning before Fhian's eyes

"Oh?"

She tries to look further into the burning horder, wanting to see who did it.

With the fog clearing, she could feel her paralyzed body being moved as everything around her burned, the smell of smoke decreasing as the fires faded. She felt herself being laid on her back, the figure moving to look over her, revealing herself to be an older hooded woman.

"Hmm, tetanus. It seems like you can still move your eyelids. Blink once for yes, blink twice for no. Did you hear what I say?" she asked.

She blinked once.

She blinked once.
The woman remained silent for a moment, almost as if she considered her options before nodding and turning her attention back at Fhian.

"Just so we're clear, I'm a guild administrator. I came to make sure that zombie clearing task was done properly and as I've seen, it seems like it didn't. You have 2 choices. One, I hand you over as a criminal and I'll find you dead in a ditch somewhere. Two, you hand yourself over to me as work for hire. Just so you know, we have very good worker's benefits" she offered.

Knowing she can't speak, she tried to summoning a chain and shaped it into a mouth of some kind, uttering the words: "What benefits?"

"Oh, that's.. nice..." the mouth said, with Fhian trying her best to smile.
Chapter 1, First Mission

And so it begins!
With a sad lack of wins
Yet do not fear!
For more adventures come near

Dragged out of the empty town
The young woman didn't make a sound
A few miles they passed
Until they arrived at last

Tärkein was rather small
A single raid and it'll surely fall
Yet that will soon change
As hope comes into range

The bar was a lively place where mercenaries could chat about before their next mission, enjoying hearty meals and lots to drink. It was no different that night, the place rowdy and disorganized... until the door opened and a familiar whistle was heard. In an instant, all quieted down as Maria stepped in, a mercenary over her shoulder which she carried all the way to the back, the patrons allowing her to pass without any obstruction.

"Gideon! I need your assistance!" Maria shouted upon entering the room at the back.

Her face looked down, her clothes all dirtied and ragged. Eyes of hers began to lack the ability to follow, as they were fixated to things at an unspecified degree, her mouth kept quiet as she knows not who these people are.
