Sword Art Online General Discussion/Q&A Thread #4

That is not a valid rebuttal to issues with a calculation

By the end of Alicization arc, Kirito stayed in the underworld for 200 years. When he became Star King, would it have been possible that he might have gotten stronger over the time he stayed in the Underworld? So is it possible for him to be 4-B, possibly 4-A or 4-B, probably higher?

the gap between the start and end of 4-B is trillions of times. Star King would have to surpass his 4-B key by well over billions of times and I'm not even sure how much reason he has to actually scale to that.

It makes him have more abilities, but not necessarily stronger.

We already have separate tiers for each SAO VR player. It's just peeps with the most feats (so basically just Kirito and Asuna) will have split profiles cause they just have so much content.

Just keeping it as real life, cause being in Ordinal Scale doesn't change anything. Also the grammar is fine. I'll post the CRT soon then.

Alice's voice caused every stars in the universe to shudder

They were in space full of stars with no boundaries

The Abyssal Horror escaped to the edge of the universe in an unknown time

This time, her voice caused winds to blow throughout the entire universe and caused mechadragon's Incarnation meter to shatter with a faint explosion. The Abyssal Horror encountered Alice when it escaped to the edge of the universe while the mechadragons were still nowhere near the edge of the universe. And the mechadragons couldn't be near the edge of the universe because of the damage it took from the Abyssal Horror.
So, how fast is the Abyssal Horror, or would it be unkown? And how strong could Alice be?
1) Have you ever heard of flowery text and imagery before?

2) Kirito literally questioned "Space?" after the statement. He would literally have no idea whether it's boundless or not. Either way, it's still flowery text again.

3) We have already established that Underworld's universe isn't as large as our own because the Cardinal System literally has no need to generate further space other than the two planets that the people travel between. Either way, if we don't have a set time it reaches the "edge of the universe" it can't be calc'd anyways.

4) Dude... come on, you can't be serious in thinking that this isn't flowery text. Remember by this point in the Underworld's timeline, Incarnation has been heavily restricted, so it makes sense Alice with her strong Incarnation used back in War of Underworld was able to break it. In addition, Alice literally hasn't changed at all since War of Underworld. She hasn't gotten stronger since she was logged out, unlike Kirito and Asuna's bodies, who remained within the Underworld for 200 years.

Yeah, tons of context was lost from the LN, but it was still clear that the stars were basically rippling all around them, which is at least a clear feat from the LN, even if shaking the universe is hyperbole.
When did the stars ripple around them? Was it during the fight with the Abyssal Horror? And who caused those ripples?

No. EoA Kirito and The Abyssal Horror only clashed once and that resulted the innumerable stars rippling.
That's after the so called universe which we don't even know the size of trembled so it's possible that she's exaggerating or imagining it since the area around her is trembling. Since the author is using Imagery to describe the scene.

Eight shots of violet-blue light, looking to be three mel in diameter
each, all came screaming with metallic howls.

And then, as though they collided violently with a transparent
wall, they stopped in midair and ricocheted in different directions.

The universe trembled.

The innumerable stars reflected in Steeka’s widened eyes shook
like ripples on water. Next moment, a shockwave roared past her
and rumbled the mechadragon’s enormous body.

At a complete loss for words, Steeka noticed that the needle in the
miniature instrument on the right side of her imagepanel swung
straight up in an instant.

“You’re… joking… that’s impossible…”

Steeka had never seen the instrument, called the «Incarnation
meter», move up 20 percent like this. Her ears filled with
Laura’nei’s awed voice.

“…I don’t believe it… Such powerful Incarnation… It’s like the entire
universe is trembling…

But the reality before their eyes was undeniable.

Both the narration and character stated/quoted that the universe trembled. Saying otherwise is ridiculous at least imo.

Look at what she says "it's like the universe is trembling" not that it is actually trembling otherwise she wouldn't have used it's like which means she's not sure if it's trembling or not.

Can you add me as supporter for Sword Art Online. Thanks in advance.

Umm... Did you read the other part I bolded?

Done

It can mean universe but more likely refers to space. Japanese can be wildly variable by context and blatantly ignoring that doesn't explain other details in the text like the planet distinctly not feeling any of the shaking.

What does "a night sky's worth of speed" even mean?
Traveling across stars. The night sky is full of stars and those stars are incredibly distant. There were stars in space since we know that the stars were shaking. So can it be possible that the Abyssal Horror and Mechadragons traveled between planets which is full of innumerable stars?

I had to look long and hard for this.

Statement from Reki Kawahara (author of SAO) from his official twitter saying the stars and galaxy that Kirito saw is just the sky you see in open world games not actual stars and galaxies.

Link

Statement:
1.私たちがオープンワールドゲームで見る星空と基本的には同じものです。
2.具体的な距離はSAO26巻で明らかになるはずですが、地球と火星よりずっとずっとずっと近いです。

Translation:
1. It's basically the same as the starry sky we see in open world games.
2. The specific distance should be revealed in SAO Vol. 26, but it is much closer than Earth and Mars.

You can wait for Volume 26 if you don't believe it and you can translate it yourself if you want.

Another statement from Reki saying the current size of the underworld is at the largest of one sun and two planets orbiting it.

Link 2

Statement:
そのとおりです。現在のUnderworldの大きさは、太陽一つ、それを周回する惑星二つが最大です。

Translation:
Exactly. The current size of Underworld is the largest of one sun and two planets orbiting it.

And when he was describing the fight in space he was using imagery if you don't know what imagery is it's what authors use to describe a scene so that it's easier for the reader to imagine it not that it's actually happening.

Feel free to translate those statements. If you don't believe the translation I gave.

As for the mechadragons speed it says in the opening statement of Prologue III that it take 3 hours to go from Cardina to Admina.

Link 3 Page 336 first few lines or stanzas.

[The Underworld Space Force was required to follow rules and regulations to the letter, but even their spartan instructors would be unable to monitor outside of the atmosphere. Plus, the three-hour journey to their destination, companion star Admina, meant that minor mishaps were well expected.]

It says they are still going to Admina not that they came from Admina. The statement that it took them 10 minutes to go from Cardina to Admina is false here's the statement.

[She finished the turn and the imagepanel was once again filled with Caldina’s blue light, where she had left the ground just ten minutes ago. It looked just within reach, but in reality it was despairingly far away.]

It clearly says that she just left Cardina NOT that she went from Admina or to Admina and went back.

Sorry if I can't send screenshot or pictures of it I don't know how.

If you even paid attention to the quote you're showing, you'll notice he's talking about Underworld the planet, not the universe it is on, since we've known for a fact Underworld and another planet orbit around a sun, so he's calling Underworld the largest of the two.

If you even read it correctly it says that at it's largest the size of the Underworld is one sun and two planets so interstellar travel via mechadragons is not possible since there is only one sun. And the name of the planet isn't Underworld it's Cardina and Admina so I don't know where you got that from and the name Underworld refers to the simulation they are in not the planet since the Underworld is the entire simulation and before you go saying the Underworld is the size of the universe it's not since Reki Kawahara himself states that there is only one sun and two planets and we all know that in real life there are more than two planets.
