Super Mario Series Revision (Well, more of downgrade)

Seeing the Bye Bye Cannon in action, what’s happening here if they weren’t shot around the globe?

Also, I thought something being a “gag” wasn’t enough to disregard it, as per the acceptance of the castle punt and Raphael Raven feats

Also mind calming down a little? I don’t think I’ve been hostile so there’s no need to turn a causal discussion into a confrontation

Raphael literally has been given shit in this thread. Just because they haven't responded back doesn't mean they agree with it.

And them using storm feats but not the Power Star or Kamek shit is just as hypocritical which is my entire point.

Both the storm and Tier 4 Creation feats should be valid by our standards, the only issue is finding the most consistent Tier

As for the feat itself, you could call it a game mechanic. A fancy little animation not to be taken seriously, just like the chase sequences. A screen transition gag that makes no logical sense. They are performing a screen jump from one side to the other.

But really the actual more legitimate issue is It's also an unnatural timeframe because at the speed they flew over the horizon they would have had to suddenly had an insane skyrocket in speed to get to the other side in the timeframe where they disapper into the horizon and then show up again. A cannon should not have an inconsistent speed for it's projectiles. If anything they would lose momentum during flight as well, not gain it. So I just take it as a cartoon-y screen transition.

As for the storm feats. I dunno. A storm being caused by presence is clearly different than a magical power you actively use that looks the same for every spell. Who's to say the passive storm scales to your attacks? The Dark Star dispersing it is also an actual self-destruct explosion that happens far away from everyone else and thusly can't scale.

Oh, by the way, speaking of magic and AP and scaling and all, Kamek has a spell that can flood the entire planet supposedly. That's definitely at least Tier 6. But maybe not. The timeframe wasn't instant. I feel like a reasonable tineframe is like some hours. It definitely doesn't feel like the game treated as a "well the planet will eventually flood over the years" it definitely felt more urgent like on that day specifically.

Yeah, Varies looks like the best option to me
Varies was discussed and rejected a lot over the years from what I can tell. Probably should decide upon the ratings in the most consistent tier range.

From what I'm seeing there are no two feats in the same Tier so far. Varies may be the only option, and would be viable due to Maverick's statement below.

"Due to the series lack of continuity and Miyamoto stating Mario’s characteristics fluctuate to suit the plot of each game I personally wouldn’t be opposed to a Varies compromise if it comes down to that, but that’s definitely been rejected before."

Do we need a timeframe for a flooding the world calc? Or are they all just inherently gonna be High 6-A?

If a timeframe is needed Kamek's/Bowser's storm definitely at least would've taken a day to flood the planet, maybe hours at best. No storm on the planet would flood the planet so urgently so it's already higher than most of the feats so far based on that alone.

There seem to be many more valid feats in the tier 6/7/8 range so even if it comes down to it so that we have to go with varies, it can still be at a consistent range.

Could probably assume a realistic timeframe for that imo.

So then likely a Tier 6 feat for Kamek, then.

Eh, I still think Tier 5 has a decent amount. Olly wasn't just reality warping. Blaze even showed proof of it in that thread. Shadow Queen possibly could get Tier 5 but is Tier 6 otherwise, Bowser def creating the black hoke sucking in planets, the Fan Thing fron Paper Mario rotating the planet at high speeds... May even be more I'm just not remembering.

Okay so if that thread gets accepted and we recalc Dark Bowser's potential feat with Odyssey in mind we should give that same treatment to DK's moon punch to be completely fair and unbiased. It either supports Tier 6 or 5.

I don't see why the need for the "especially"

It makes complete logical sense.

But if we want to keep the feats as they are, inaccurate as they may be to Mario's World, be my guest.

The moon is blatantly shown to be miniature in DKCR.

Ok, are we going for route of trying to find best tier? I thought that wasn’t the purpose. But if we are, well then.

Tier 7
Tier 6
These need calcs
As a bonus, there is also DK & Wario, although they can be ignored since they have different keys.

Tiers 7-6 have much more feats that are also less dubious.

Meanwhile Tier 4 hinges on Power Stars and Bowser’s minion amping another minion whose feat is never directly replicated.
Tier 7 looks the most complete for now

I dunno if the Bowser tanking feat is legit, he would have died from it if it wasn't from the bros, and it's the weakest feat in that list.

Okay, Mav, and the castle was clearly small in the cutscene.
False equivalence, the castle is considered larger than its portrayed in the cutscene based on its exterior, meanwhile there’s nothing in DKCR indicating the moon is as large as its real world counterpart. We’re not inflating a feat based on a game that comes out 7 years later, we’re using the size it’s shown to be in its game.

Are you talking about the SMW feat? Not only is the castle shown to be bigger in other situations which doesn't apply to the moon, but this is also a SNES game, which has perspective limits, compared to a Wii game that can play with the camera as much as it wants.

You do realize Jungle Beat was done by a completely different studio, right? There's no relation between the two games outside of the fact that they're DK games. Also, I don't really see the evidence of the Moon being normal-sized here, unless you're gonna say "well it LOOKS big" is your argument.

It's clearly much bigger than a single ass island on the planet.

I don't think I have to prove that. Logical assumption of it being that big compared to the planet is to assume it's regular-sized.

And merging DK with Mario further would need the moon to be actual-sized.

The size and distance of the moon is not universally consistent because this is a cartoonish series that lacks continuity.

To quantify this feat we should simply utilize the proportions of the moon displayed in the game the feat took place in

Or, and hear me out, I know it sounds SO crazy but...

What if the devs intended for you to know DK has the power to punch the Moon out of orbit? And that the one instance of it being small is simply outweighed by the fact the Moon is clearly the actual size it's supposed to be consistently?

Yoshi's Island shouldn't be used either because that moon was inconsistent in practically every damn frame they could show it. One instance it's big enough to make Kamek and Baby Bowser look insignificant flying towards it and then in gameplay it was barely even 3 meters in diameter. And on the map it's clearly more distanced than the gameplay made it seem.

Oh, don't bring in author intent now. You really think Raphael exploding into a bunch of stars was meant to be a showing of Kamek's power rather than a meaningless joke? You really think the person writing Wario World's description mentioned a universe cause it would make Wario stronger? And you think that all the times Mario gets hurt by something trivial the writers are purposefully spiting him by lowering his power level?

The Moon looks small, so it's small. Stop reaching.
What’s the discussion and reaching this time?
Are you going to keep this up for much longer? You've made more ad hominem than actual arguments, and if this continues I'm gonna request a thread ban.

I think that it is harmless if Cal is a bit grouchy. He has not caused any serious problems, and thread banning a longtime loyal staff members is an overreaction under the current circumstances.

"Grouchy" is one thing, but he has been condescending and has insulted our side multiple times while making incredibly half-assed arguments, which I'd say is a bit beyond "grouchy". I'm fully aware that's he's one of the people who's been on-site for the longest, but that only makes it worse that he's acted like a complete child for several threads by now.

Well, he is just displeased at times, but has extremely rarely actually caused any problems.

Two years ago and I’d be right on carrying that pitchfork.
But now I just don’t have the energy to do that anymore. So I’ll just leave with a single comment:

🖕🏾
Where’s my planet level Kirby, large planet Mega Man X, city level Sonic, etc.
VSBW in a nutshell
Literally over half of his comments are this kind of stupid jab. I don't care if he isn't causing any "problems", he's feeding into the drama surrounding these revisions that he's fully aware he shouldn't be giving any weight to in an attempt to gather sympathy, while being hostile to me and the people making these arguments. Even his few constructive comments are drenched in the same smug sense of superiority.

I don't care if he's thread banned or not, but he absolutely must be told to tone it down at the very least.

Yes. Toning things down is a reasonable request.

I’d love to tone things down if the arguments didn’t grind my gears more than a Klinklang. Not only are they treating the series like it’s Marvel/DC and going “muh consistent” as opposed to higher showings that aren’t one-offs, but they’re writing off any feat that is above their aforementioned tier as hax or some scaling reason that would be laughed at if it wasn’t coming from staff. Like seriously look me in the eyes and tell me that exploding into a star wouldn’t be a blatant tier 4 feat in any other verse. Or a black hole that’s naturally found in space being scrutinized to hell and back. That’s why I’m responding the way I am. Death of tier 2? Fine. Some of the arguments I found bs but the tier was already controversial to begin with. This however? While I can very much be civilized, I’ve put up with a lot over the past 6 years to allow the dam to break a little.

The assertiveness isn’t directed to you, Ant, despite me quoting your post.

And here's more pointless comparisons to other verses with different context. I don't give a shit if you feel Mario's being treated unfairly, none of that legitimizes you being an ass, six years or not.

But yes, if the Mario feats happened in other verses I don't think they would be accepted.

Idk what the hells going on here anymore but. The star feat is questionable outside of gag arguments n shit looking at it.

Kamek amps raven and gives him magical properties that make him create a 4-C explosion on death.

In other words were assuming that magic giving someone 4-C self destruction can be used to amp them to the same level... sorry but that is really shaky reasoning even outside gags

...back to the topic

The moon shown in the scene should be taken as its size for calculating the feat. If you take the size of the moon as regular, it would contradict the feat (the island size, the many many effects of an object that size crashing on Earth, etc.) and render it unusable.

Kamek seemingly intended that yoshi would be at risk because of this power and at this point in time the possibility of harming bowser by creating a bunch of stars on the island he is on would be completely out of character it is not a self destruct.
