Today we are looking at some demons in dmc and see if they can get LS attack speed. Staring with:

Nightmare

A demon V can summon by releasing its power. Its intent is not as clear compared to the other 2 demons, rampaging on with powerful punches and rays of light according to its destructive impulses.

Edit: For further note, 光線 is a word that can mean "beam, light ray, rays" and 照射 means something about illuminating or to expose something. Or beaming even, which should fit the fact one of Nightmare's attacks involves shooting light beams.

The white light that's released from the core travels along the ground then pans sideways. Dodging to the sides could be a dangerous move.

Devil May Cry Enemy File, Plasma: "Plasma is an embodiment of evil electricity. Thus, the use of Nightmare-beta against it is useless. Its ability to manipulate ambient energy will only bend the light, not damaging it at all." ((Fire Nightmare-β at a Plasma)

Nightmare Beta fires light

Nightmare-Beta is a similar weapon to the Nightmare. Hence, the weapon has no effects against it. (Fire Nightmare-β at one of Nightmare's cores)

A bizarre-looking Enemy with a skull floating inside its gooey body. This design was inspired by the old hit toy "Slime".

Initially, the only explanation for this design was that it was a slime-shaped Enemy that would emerge in a hard shell when the light was directed at it. However, during the production stage, Dante was able to create a series of attacks worthy of the name "Nightmare", such as swallowing Dante and sending him flying into a nightmare space or firing freezing lasers.

Dante's weapon, the "Beta" is the name of his "Nightmare" weapon, has a "3" for "prototype", which is a huge "Nightmare". This is the "a" in its finished form. Mundus might wear this nightmare on his arm.

Nightmare beta works equally to the original nightmare. Both fire light.

Light from nightmare travels straight, cuts/burns, and does not explode.

Conclusion: Nightmare has a light speed attack as a beam of light it can shoot.

Nefasturris
https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/731565235894222920/731583723719491614/unknown.png

https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/710583764794867792/826246105524207626/unknown.png

The English DMC2 guides call it "beams", while the Japanese guide calls them rays of light. Besides that they travel in a straight line, they are intangible, they do not explode, they burn instead of exploding.

“Although it cannot leave the walls of a building, the rays of light from its massive body and the destructive power of its swinging hand are tremendous. As long as its central head remains intact, it can continue to operate even if it loses its body.”

https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachme...ficial_Complete_Guide_Page_113_Image_0001.jpg

《戰關開始直後 はレーザーを遠く へ4回放つので、 近づけば安全。真 下からショットガン を当てておこう。

“Immediately after the start of the battle, he will fire four lasers at a distance. Keep the shotgun in the air.”

敵から少し離れ ているときに「巨 大レーザーを使 われたら、回避行 動か、敵に接近す ることでかわす。

“If you are a short distance away from the enemy, dodge the huge laser by using an evasive maneuver or by moving closer to the enemy.”

Conclusion
Nefasturris likewise uses a beam of light for attacks, that should be LS

Artemis

Atremis absorbs natural sunlight, which is then fired out as straight lasers.

“A demon wielding light as a weapon”

Conclusion
This one should straight forward. Artemeis uses natural sunlight for LS attacks.

Beowulf
This one might be somewhat contentious. Most of beowulf's moves don't really follow light standards, except maybe 1

Slow the video down to .25 and pay close attention. Beowulf performs a flash move by roaring. This is given context in other material:

https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/710583764794867792/826252905534586890/unknown.png
https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/710583764794867792/826250991053045790/unknown.png

Beowulf uses light for its attacks, and the devil arm for it uses “a flash” (The flash move from the video prior)

Dmc v back vergil bring back the beowulf devil arm:

DMC5SE Official website — Vergil
Beowulf

Beowulf, a mighty demon, thought once to take his hatred of Sparda out on the dark knight's son. Vergil, however, defeated him so completely, that there was nothing left but these boots and gauntlets.

Imbued with the power of light, they shine in close-quarters combat where a single, fully-charged attack can unleash immeasurable power.

Nico's reports — Weapon reports — Vergil
Beowulf

Fighting gauntlets and boots imbued with the
power of light. They pack a hell of a wallop when fighting in close quarters.

So Vergil thrashed the mighty demon Beowulf so bad, hardly anything was left of him. Still managed to make these gauntlets and boots from the scraps!

I guess Beowulf had some kind of horrible grudge against the great swordsman Sparda and thought to take it out on his bloodline? Didn't go to well for him though! Dante claims to have fought this guy too. I asked about it but all he'd given me was "Stubborn bastard. Tougher than some, though."

Conclusion
Beowulf has maybe one viable ls attack, which is a flash made of light produced from his eye

Edit
Beowulf additionally has a light aoe attack at 1:00 and one at 1:31

Additionally the plasma demons use particle beams as well, which are also called a laser.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Particle-beam_weapon#:~:text=The speed of a beam,a target against the beam.
https://www.symmetrymagazine.org/ar...ou-might-not-know-about-particle-accelerators
The speed of a beam approaching that of light (299,792,458 m/s in a vacuum)

Visual for the move:

This is all for attack speed, for all the listed demons

I know you know being called a beam of light or light no longer qualifies for being lightspeed as evidence so nothing you posted for Nightmare is valid evidence for said attack to be rated lightspeed as far as I can tell.

im aware
im going this point instead for the translation
  • It is stated to be composed/consisting of photons or light itself, again by a reliable source.

I can draw a comparison to mundus in a bit as well, for nightmare
Give me 10 minutes

That means things like Sunlight. Not things called “beam of light” which is what you've posted so far.

Being called a “beam of light” no longer meets that requirement.

Light from nightmare travels straight, cuts/burns, and does not explode.
This also isn't proof btw.

It would apply if it's a particle beam though
Nightmare is born from Mundus, and should share some extent of his physiology.
Mundus' beam of light is called a particle beam, as is the particle beams from the plasmas

What requirements does Mundus meet? Unless I'm reading it wrong your proof for Mundus is it's called “particle beam” and also is called “a ray of light” neither of those meet the laser requirements.

Unless it does the same thing as irl particle beams I'm not seeing the evidence here at all.

  • The beam refracts in a new material, such as a liquid or...
  • The beam diffuses in a reasonably realistic way or reflects off a material that it can be expected to, such as a non-magical mirror.
  • The beam is called lightspeed by reliable sources.
  • It is stated to be composed/consisting of photons or light itself, again by a reliable source.
  • It has its origin at a realistic source of light, such as a camera.

particle beams have a set speed. I provided links for that in mundus' section. They are at the very minimum relativistic speed.

You have to prove they function the same. That's the entire point of the requirements since people can just say light is light.

It doesn't outright say it moves at light speed therefore it doesn't necessarily mean this fictional version does.

can easily be reworked.

it would be rel attack speed for nightmare, mundus, and plasmas

Should mention the particle beam is currently accepted for mundus

I did glance at his profile and see he has matter manipulation but again that doesn't prove speed which is what the standards are for.

Is there anything else such as diffusion, reflection, or refraction?

Unless I'm reading it wrong your proof for Mundus is it's called “particle beam” and also is called “a ray of light” neither of those meet the laser requirements
Particle Beams called "rays of light" isn't really a contradiction... its like saying milk being called a liquid is contradiction..... and besides particle beams look like one, so its a visual based description.

Straight line travel, intangibility, cutting and burning instead of exploding,
And no contradictions to oppose them...

These together are enough........

Didnt Argosax have light based attacks too? When it shoots some arrows down on you, Argosax emanates rainbow colors

I agree with Nightmare and Nefasturris having LS Attack Speed, not only they are stated to use Light in battle, but they also show some standards for it

The others don't seem to have enough proof to me

Oh wow, the Light/Laser page has changed huh

Well, they only are stated to be Light from what I see then

actually for nightmare. Its stated it releases light from its core, and it should be similar to the particle beam mundus uses.

I'm rather skeptical of going off of mere statements in the first place, so I'll stay neutral while leaning towards disagreeing.

Also, Artemis' light didn't behave naturally in the bossfight with her, so I don't think her light attacks are actually LS.

Wait why are you giving Demons LS for having light attacks? That's like giving humans Sub-Sonic for shooting guns.

If you use magic to produce something, that doesn't mean you can use magic to amp yourself to the speed of the thing you produced.

This is some next level "shared energy source" logic here. AP at least makes sense, but speed from shared energy source is 3 layers of dumb.

About the Royal Guards, we have an issue as before. Royal Guard isn't reaction, the same feat can be accomplished through prediction, we went over this in the old thread.
