Feed Me Your Wretched Anime Suggestions

I'd recommend giving DanDaDan a try, but it is  weird, and I don't mean the gross kind of weird, I just mean that it's weird. It's still a great series with really good action, good characters, and a surprisingly good romance.

The plot is basically a guy who believes in UFOs but not ghosts and a girl who believes in ghosts but not UFOs challenge each other to go hot spots for both activities. They do, and it turns out both (and more) are real; supernatural hijinks ensue.

I don't know if Mr. Bambu would like it, but eh, it's worth a shot.

When the OP says anime to recommend, does he mean Japanese animation or oriental animation (some put everything in the same boat)? Does it also include media from x country adapted in y country (for example, Solo Leving is Korean but was adapted in Japan, Castlevania is a Japanese franchise but the animation was made by the West)?

Just to know the range of what I can recommend.

I think it's just anything anime-like. Probably.

For me Frieren was enjoyable. I didn't come looking for entertainment I came looking to chill. I liked the exposition because I generally like slow talkative anime. I came for the vibes and I got vibes. To me it's a 8.5 to 9/10 with my main issue being nobody ever reacting to pain properly.
listen brother. I can do slow and talkative. ever see My Dinner with Andre? adore that movie. it is all talking.

The thing is, Frieren isn't really very thoughtful or interesting in those bits, either. Anime dialogue is like. some of the least subtle writing of all time, I think. Everything must be overexplained.

I don't remember the part in particular, but there was a scene where someone was questioning Frieren's actions. And she had a flashback about Himmel doing essentially the same thing on their adventure, and maybe five minutes later it cuts back to Frieren saying "Well. I don't know, maybe I do it for me. It's what Himmel the Hero would do." as if that was a thoughtful thing to say? It had been said dozens of times at that point. Himmel the Hero should have the most mind-bogglingly complex and laid out set of moral codes and traditions at this point. And yet it's always "be decent". I find it all deeply, deeply agitating.

This is correct. Anime as a style, I don't care at all about country of origin. Castlevania was even a suggestion I considered good, it looked decent. Things like RWBY would also apply, strictly made in the West. It doesn't matter to me.

(y)

What did you think of my suggestion?
I dunno. The closest point of reference I have is X-Files, but X-Files was enjoyable because it had very good writers who made its character cast likeable, which is a harder thing to do. I think the vibe is the most important bit, and above all else, with anime so far, the one thing I dislike in vibes the most is sheer ridiculousness. Even for the sake of comedy, I find it to be annoying to break the tone otherwise for a character to do something stupid for comedic effect. Your suggestion gives me the impression this may be the case, but I don't know that. The concept itself doesn't allure or repel me.

Eh, then you might not like DanDaDan. It's a bit more wacky, and a lot of the comedy can be off-the-wall.

And, as I said, it's weird. The overall plot is trying to help the UFO guy get his balls back after they were stolen by the Yokai he saw at that haunted location, after all.

It's a good series, but not for everyone.

Yeah. I won't give you shit about it but it sounds like something distinctly not up my alley.

I guess I responded in a way that wasn't thought out.
I agree that Frieren dialogues aren't something really creative but what really makes me enjoy it is the overall vibe of it. It is an anime about things happening, life going on. It feels fresh. The whole anime is the equivalent of standing in a field of grass and having the spring breeze blow in your direction. I think that is the point of the anime as a whole, it is a series that places you in a magical world and instead of having you fall into the pit of chaos that they usually are, they have you observe a world that has already finished its main story, the world where you aren't constantly fighting monsters, a world that lets you just relax for a moment.

I don't have words that can describe this anime properly because I can't give a specific reason as to why I think its good. So I'll just say, the vibes are too good for the anime to be bad.

well. The anime I've really liked up to this point, in descending order from "fantastic" to "reasonably enjoyable":
  • Neon Genesis Evangelion
  • Death Note
  • Overlord
  • Mekakucity Actors
  • Hellsing
I tend to prefer darker plot elements, and a more serious tone. That said, I believe there's a balance to be achieved, and dislike things that are overly edgy for the sake of it. I prefer things to be thought out and well written, and focused enough on the plot. I've already mentioned things I found distasteful about Frieren, so avoiding all of that is good, too. I'm also a fantasy guy over all else, so fantasy begins with some points in the hopper.

To completely upset all of that, I've entertained for the past few years enjoying a slice of life or more dramatic anime. I didn't dislike the ones my sister tried to show me when I was young, although I don't know if that'd hold up these days.

I dislike shonen and all that, so anything related to shonen isn't strictly a "no" but I will probably like it a lot less than the average viewer.

What if I told you Shin Kamen Rider was directed by the guy who made Evangelion?

Tbh I'd probably change my recommendation to Monster. I have genuinely never been so enthralled and interested in the story of an anime since watching Death Note, and that's saying something because its probably my second or third favorite of all time (Berserk still takes the cake rn). Not done with it yet, but from what I've heard, it doesn't let up the steam as far as writing throughout the series.

Super underrated.

ah, but you aren't suggesting Shin Kamen Rider (and I knew that, because I love Shin Godzilla). you're suggesting Kamen Rider, which to my knowledge is essentially Power Rangers.

Don't remember if I've recommended it before but if you like dark stuff that isn't shonen then 91 days could be your thing - it is a prohibition era mafia revenge story. Worth it in my opinion.

Highschool Dxd. Got about 48 episodes and a total of 4 seasons. They're all adapted for a very extensive light novel series. Decent plot and characters. Though, many watch for... other reasons.
i feel your pain.
abso-*******-lutely not
The dub was kind of funny as hell. You can ignore most of the stuff and just laugh at it. Its comedy is on a god-tier level, like Ghost Stories. The fights are good too, and the characters are amazing.

That's what I've got to say since my favorite thing is a harem ending, and the main character's dream is to be a harem king.

My recommendation is "Trinity Seven." I would love to recommend the manga since anime adaptations often skip a lot of details. Even though the manga itself doesn't explain small detail, that's what I love about it. It is a great recommendation if you want something with a lot of depth. It has a complex setting and a fascinating power system, free from the typical elemental systems like fire , water etc, which are just not cool to me. The story is engaging, the characters are well-developed, and the fights are exciting. The art is also fantastic. There are just so many elements to enjoy. Right now, it is the strongest manga out there. I can't wait until it surpasses all those light novels, visual novels, and other similar works. It's truly a standout in its category!
Also, unlike most animes that use emotions for power and such, this anime uses intellect.

If this is only about the anime recommendation, then the anime is a fun watch. The fights, characters, and comedy are great. While it's not on the level of the manga, it is good in its own way. Also, this has 8 main characters.

Bambu is not watching a harem anime be so fr

Why,he is missing out on so many animes? Which type? Any harem or those with harem endings? these are the ones with harem ending , there are more
I assure you, I am not missing out on anything worth seeing.

One of the predominate things that makes anime so absolutely reviled in my book is the sheer level of degenerate shit that gets shoehorned into it at all times. Frieren had a lot more of it than I would have liked. I'm not engaging with something that not only includes it but literally holds it as the centerpiece. To be honest, I just sincerely find it hard to believe it would be funny.

It's chill you're not missing out on anything noteworthy, this guy just has a very concerning level of enjoyment for harems and harem endings

And is self-admittedly not interested in interacting with real women and prefers to remain alone

I have met lots of people since I became obsessed with harem endings, who have different tastes and enjoy different things than I do. You are on the highest level, as you proved on your other post . I never expected to meet a fellow atheist who is so much more limited than me in what they watch. I pretty much limit the animes I watch to those that must have a harem ending, but that doesn’t limit me from watching animes that look good.

So, any and all degenerate things, even stuff that may look small to me, would be too much for you like in Frieren. I only watched like three episodes of Frieren before I stopped because the pacing was not my type; it felt so slow to me. My type of pacing is more like One Punch Man, so I can't say much for it.

With that, trying to think of an anime to recommend to you is kind of hard. I have watched over 710 animes in four years, and
90% of them have degenerate stuff.
Like I just watched Persona 4, it pretty much had lots of that stuff, more than I expected.

This got me interested, what is your favorite anime?

If we use the part this is a powerscaling site .
By denying harem, you are denying the strongest anime, anime game, manga, and light novel. There are harems all of them.

And You are not safe from it yourself; one of your favorite serie is a true harem.
And is self-admittedly not interested in interacting with real women and prefers to remain alone
True,so lazy, those type of emotions not for me

I reckon you'd take a liking to Haibane Renmei or Gankutsuou, if you're still looking for recommendations. Out of obligation to and on the behalf of the Woesal Enriching Impassioned Recommendation Delegation (WEIRD), I will also recommend Angel's Egg, my favorite anime movie.

man

I never expected to meet a fellow atheist who is so much more limited than me in what they watch.
I do not wish to denigrate you. I don't want your feelings to be hurt. I don't want to be unduly cruel to my fellow human, for he is my brother, and I show love to my brother.

but what the HELL are you talking about

"so much more limited" harem is like

such a tiny, blessedly tiny fraction of a fraction of a percent of all human-made media

I have seen some of the greatest films ever produced, I have read some of the greatest novels mankind has penned, I have listened to music of such beauty that I have wept

and you intend to present me as the unenlightened one for not engaging in mindless coomerism? harem anime? are you sure?

So, any and all degenerate things, even stuff that may look small to me, would be too much for you like in Frieren.
I don't watch this shit to get off, man. I want something of interest to my mind, not my ****. I'll tank it if it has fanservice within it, because sex sells even to the sexless anime enjoyers, but my god, it is not the goal of watching it. it is an active discouragement to see it.

I genuinely do not think you can possibly make an anime recommendation to me that I will hear out. You and I are not alike. What qualifies as good has 0% overlap between us.

This got me interested, what is your favorite anime?
Neon Genesis Evangelion, followed by Death Note.

I'll be making another thread sometime after new year's for next year's recommendations. I'll try to bear this in mind, still. Anime movies are sorta in a different boat, although I might just watch 'em at Movie Night with the VSBW guys. We watched Akira earlier this year, it was fantastic.
