Feed Me Your Wretched Anime Suggestions

I will absolutely not be watching the degeneration of my beloved Lord of the Rings.
Fair enough.

This might be a hot take, but I don't think the Peter Jackson movies are  that good of adaptations of the books. Don't get me wrong, they're great movies, but they're way too fast-paced, in my opinion (and yes, I understand how ridiculous it sounds to say that 4 hour long movies are too fast-paced).

The movies are enshrined amongst the greatest movies ever made, and in this household Peter Jackson is a HERO.

Aren't the movies considered better then the books by people who have read and watched both?
I don't know. It probably depends on which you experienced first or which kind of experience you prefer.

I also never said the books were better than the movies, just that I don't the movies are great adaptations of them (which is to be expected, you can't cram these books into three movies without making a ton of changes, and that's fine).

am I insane or is this not an anime
It is anime-esque smh.

The main seasons are all very anime in terms of presentation and tropes. But there are adult oriented seasons that have less tropes and are played seriously.

Buddy, I'm not watching anime to indulge the tropes, I'm watching anime to search for proof that it can rise above them. I hate the tropes.

Never heard that consensus. Books are flat-out also among the best novels ever written. Problem is, on average, books tend to be better than films. So a top end book is better than a top end movie, broadly speaking.

Well I'm offering you something that is anime in everything but medium.

We should have a thread titled Feed Me Your Wretched Ovens Suggestions, which is just trying to sell media to people in the most asinine, not-blatantly-incorrect-but-holy-shit-why-did-you-have-to-put-it-like-that ways possible. Aka Ovening.

Do you not think that a show only being an anime in its tropes, in fact, makes it the most wretched anime suggestion of all?
It makes it a wretched suggestion, it does not make it an anime suggestion. You can call your dog or whatever a human in all ways but shape but it's still a ******' dog.

Promised Neverland
Genre: Thriller and Mystery
You probably won't watch it.

Based off of what you have highlighted in bold in your post, it seems like you are into Seinen/Adult and Dark Fantasy genre's mostly.

Yeah I think he's the type of guy that would most enjoy a story like, say, Kingdom, Vagabond, Berserk, etc.
Especially since he's a fan of stuff like DOOM, and he did straight up say he was impressed by Berserk iirc.

(Disclaimer: Do not watch the 2nd season of Promised Neverland it's ASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Kingdom as in, that Korean zombie comic that got turned into a show?

Dark stuff is good but not a necessity. Berserk is just objectively gorgeous, also.

No, it's this:
And yeah I totally agree on the Berserk thing, Berserk is arguably my favorite story (or the best story I've seen so far, at least), definitely wasn't disagreeing with you there. Just wanted to point out that it's the type of story you seem to gravitate to.
