Elden Ring General Discussion

There's also a guy who made a mode where Radagon is replaced by Sauron
I'm not a LOTR fan but that sounds badass. Though I think Radagon is a great boss on his own. Elden Beast kinda takes the fight from a low-tier S to a high-tier A for me though. Elden Beast is cool and all, but from a gameplay perspective, there was absolutely no reason why it needed to be apart of Radagon's fight. And while the Elden Beast is amazing as a spectacle fight like Rykard, it isn't very fun to fight against because, as everyone says, it just runs too damn much. It isn't fun to hit the boss like once or twice just for it to then go to another side of its massive arena, as it has been reiterated many times, why in god's name can't you use Torrent in the fight? Even thematically it'd be extremely fitting. I was somewhat awed (though a bit confused) watching the cutscene, but the fight against the Elden Beast was a bit underwhelming. Morgott was a more fitting "final boss" than that, especially having the return of an old enemy. I mean, having the final boss technically be the first main/cutscene boss would be pretty cool, imo. Then again, I am a huge Morgott fanboy, ngl, so might have some bias there. I actually wish Morgott was stronger. He's my favorite boss from a pure gameplay perspective, and I love his theme (though not top 3 for me, but def top 5), but he is so god damn weak. His health bar is pathetic. I can kill him in like 5 seconds with a mid-tier build.

I actually thought the Elden Beast boss was awesome as a final boss. Throughout the whole game, you're told about Radagon and when you finally reach the Edtree, you're put against him. The boss is utterly badass, utterly difficult but still possible, the music is literally the main theme of the game and you have that revelation about Radagon and Marika (if you didn't guess it from the statue in Leyndell). You expect it to be the final boss, the Second Elden Lord himself, and everything tells you it is.

Then suddenly, an arm made of stars grabs the god you were just fighting, turns him into a sword (proving Radagon was always a tool for the Greater Will) then the creature emerges and you find yourself within a gigantic area with dozens of Edtrees with nebulas in the sky and you're put against a sort of eldritch creature that is both beautiful and terrifying and you barely have the time to ask yourself WHAT THE **** is happening?!?! Meanwhile, the music gets strangely calm, surreal, haunting, otherworldly even. Gameplay aside, it's a perfect boss for me because it comes out of nowhere (there's only like ONE thing in the entire game that foreshadows the Beast) and the boss is not like the rest of the game, something that's both too beautiful and too horrifying to exist, yet it does. While there are other stuff in the game that gives that idea (Astel in particular), this has a very Lovecraftian feeling, it's barely comprehensible. Perfect way to end the game.

As for Morgott, I definitely like his character, even though he's not my favorite (Mohg, Rykard, Chadhan, Ranni, Godfrey, Gideon and Sellen are above) and he has a very cool powerset. Plus, it was a good twist to see him again at the Edtree's doorsteps and his boss battle is very cool, though I agree it was too easy, I obliterated him in like some seconds the first time and 3 minutes the second time. Still a good boss with an excellent OST (though not my favorite).

I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned here yet but the recent update was major.

First of all, while adding a lot of balance adjustments, the biggest one was that equipment stats would vary depending on if you're in PvE or PvP, which I've wanted for so, so very long.

But more importantly perhaps, is possible DLC-related stuff, due to dataminers, this time it actually seems likely to be true. Also, raytracing is gonna be a thing?

I'll start with a summary from Sekiro Dubi then post stuff for each different thing, I could just link a video talking about it but that's lazy.

Ok I'm gonna categorize the rest.

MAP STUFF:

This the new map ID's.

Sekiro Dubi's clarification.

COLOSSEUM STUFF:

Multiple tweets about the colosseums here. (The colosseums really got a LOT more)

Leyndell Colosseum showcase.

Old Colosseum showcase.

HAIRSTYLE STUFF:

Hairstyles in the code.

Hairstyles rendered in-game.

As mentioned in that video, these hairstyles are quite blatantly labeled "DLC" in the beginning of their names.

Video by Ziostorm going over the update including a lot of this stuff:

A small post.
Like yo di-

But in all honesty, I'm hyped to see what lore we'll get to see in Colosseums. Hopefully new feats too. On a side note, I wouldn't be surprised if Radahn took place in these colosseums himself. Definitely seems like his kind of thing.

Hair styles look pretty neat too.

My guess for all this stuff:

Maps:

Can't say for sure, I think they will either be an update, or in a DLC, but I would say an update is more likely. Of course, there are MANY options here I could predict, as well as many more I couldn't.

Colosseums:

Again, probably PvP, the colosseums are so likely to return I'd say "definitely". Like, actual 99% sure here, and I would be shocked if not even one is PvP focused. I would assume there's probably an item (maybe a Talisman) for each colosseum, that gives lore on each one. If it is centered on PvP, each different colosseum could represent a "tier" for player levels (like, Limgrave Colosseum would be for players from level 1-20 for example). I think that if any of them should have a questline, it should be the Leyndell Colosseum, it's the most notable one and the largest.

Hair styles:

Update or DLC, likely just an update. Probably minor significance, just more character customization options, I doubt it's of real importance. While DLC is in the name of the hairstyle ID's, DLC is an acronym that can mean many things.

You mean a Radahn lore piece or something? Ain't no way the general fitting through them gates.💀

But yeah, considering the focus on the colosseums, with them being almost outright complete, I'd probably expect them in November, maybe December at the latest. I mean, if dataminers can literally restore the colosseums completely just using the scraps leftover in the files by FromSoftware, it wouldn't be a challenge for FromSoft to actually finish them.

Nah he just gets Leonard to meteor himself into the Colosseum 🗿

I hope we're gonna fight stuff like Ancient champions in these colosseums, I think that'd be really cool lore wise.

Maybe the way to access it for PvP will be to defeat an NPC for each colosseum, if so, I'd want the NPC to have a unique weapon and/or armor set.

I'm considering ordering the book, but why tf is a book more expensive than most games. Not to mention there's another one of the same price. I ain't got that kind of money. From please. 💀

Btw the book's are both on discount rn. From 50 (price of a triple-AAA game wtf From?) to currently 38 dollars, that's 11 dollars less, so a fine deal. Also free delivery.

Melina really ain't playing around in the manga
Ngl, I prefer Darriwil's version of Ranni, though Blaidd gives a compelling argument.

Also I enjoy Ranni's portrayal in the manga. She is also fitted well into the humorous version of the story, without it feeling forced. I'd have been worried about Ranni being a bit too serious for a comedy manga like this, but she worked well.

And yeah, Melina ain't dealing with this shit, she already sick of the Tarnished.

Honestly though, the more I read it, the more I want a serious version of it. It'd be sick. Especially if it's canon. If Genshin Impact can get a serious and canon manga, so can Elden Ring. Though a TV series for Elden Ring would be even greater, movie would be fine too. But I doubt any of them are coming. It's a big game, but not big enough for that treatment.

I feel like a manga is better than a TV. Would be more accessible, and less restrictions.

Anyways anything of Radahn or Astel?
Not sure since I've only skimmed the book (Don't have the time atm to read it properly), did notice it saying that Radahn keeps "the heavens" in stasis, can't remember if the game ever refers to what Radahn is holding back as the heavens instead of just stars.

Also noticed that in the context of Numens being from another world it's referring to another planet ad opposed to dimension or something.

Another planet makes sense. The game and Japanese verbiage is more towards another world rather than a other universe.

Gonna need to dodge this thread then to avoid spoilers. Don't wanna know what's in the book before I even get it. But I wonder why they released it at a different time, maybe region? I'm in California (West coast of NA, of course).

Saw this idea floating around and thought I'd bring it up here since it's kinda intresting, but there's people who believe that the transition between Radahns phases is him rotating the planet since it suddenly becomes night when he leaps into the sky even if it's the middle of day when you fight him.

Not entirely sold on the idea myself, could maybe just be game mechanics for the sake of adding atmosphere to the fight or so that it makes sense to see the falling stars since it wouldn't look right if they fell in broad daylight instead.

Not entirely sold on the idea myself,
Personally I don't buy it because "canonically" I don't believe the Tarnished ever dies during the story. After the jester guy tells of the Radahn festival it automatically skips time until its dusk, which means by the time most people get to Radahn's second phase it would be night already.

However he would need ti disperse all of those clouds covering his arena I think.

Did a pure incantation build since I've never really dabbled much in miracles and pyromancies or what have you in a souls game, discovered malenia cannot even remotely deal with burn o flame so it was fun cheesing the hell outta her with it

I decided to get Vol. 2 of the Books of Knowledge, though I still have no clue where Vol. 1 is. When I ordered it on Amazon a few weeks back, it outright said it'd be "released" (the copies in question being published and prepared for shipping, I presume) on October 31st, now it was changed on the very page I originally ordered it from and says it'll be released on November 17th, and even says it on my pre-order page for it, though I haven't been officially updated on the status of my personal order. I'm hoping it still gets shipped before then in line with the October 31st date I was given, but I'm thinking that I'll probably be waiting until late November, when I was lead to expect it coming out around next week. Looks like the shipment of this first book has been very messy on FP's part.
