Elden Ring General Discussion

Anyone else getting those new books of knowledge that come out soon? Wasn't too interested in them at first since I initially thought they were just strategy guides but after finding out they also have some of that juicy LORE I couldn't resist the urge to get them.

Perhaps, but I don't find it likely. I'm interested in them and I'm a big Elden Ring fan, but the prices are pretty insane. Maybe I'll get it in September though.

Maybe, maybe not. They'll likely have juicy stuff sure, but I am a broke bitch. So idk

Does the law of causality work against malenia? I'm using it against her and sometimes it works as a cut cure but other times it doesn't.

I tried it before, it barely works at times against bosses in general so I'll assume the spell just sucks (I tried on Malenia, Godfrey and Radagon)

The one unique and cool thing from Gideon aside from his armor and weapon (which nobody uses), and it's trash lmao.

Tbh Gideon could've had more presence in the game, maybe even his own ending (considering that 3 of the Tarnished mentioned in the same opening as Gideon got endings, but not him even though he was the last, it's pretty surprising). His boss fight is insanely easy as well. If they were going to have him monologue, they should've just given him a cutscene instead of letting us literally get a free crit in and close the entire distance before he even stops talking. And why would Gideon be chill with us literally walking behind him?

Gideon is generally just known for "find the Albinauric woman", being a possible lore heavy character with some theories tied to him, and being the boss before Godfrey, who is infinitely more memorable than Gideon.

Because what he wants is for someone to become Elden Lord. It doesn't matter if it's him or someone else. If it's him, then it's perfect but if it's not him, at least SOMEONE is and can bring a tiny bit of order to this shit. It's why he's so cold when you first appears at the hold, he's disgusted by how multiple other Tarnished have given up on their mission and ismply use the table as a shelter from the war and assumes you will probably do the same thing. Once you've made it clear you're dead serious about the Elden Ring, he becomes much more sympathetic to you because finally, someone is willing to try to fix things outside of him

Okay but why is he suicidal.

And I'm pretty sure that's not his goal. Maybe I misunderstood, but I'm quite sure he was trying to lead you astray and prevent you from actually becoming Elden Lord, because Queen Marika's intention was for the Tarnished to struggle for eternity, and Gideon was helping Marika in that regard after he found out why she wished for this.

Okay but why is he suicidal.
Because by the time you encounter him, he discovered something about Marika that completely destroyed his resolve and thinks no one should become Elden Lord. We never learn what it is (possibly the fact that Marika and Radagon are the same) but it was enough to break him to the point he will try to kill anyone attempting to become lord

I interpreted it as him already knowing that before we meet him, but that Gideon was tricking you into collecting all Great Runes, so he could kill you and take them.

Nah it's not that. DFrom the moment you get two Runes, Gideon immediately tells you to go to Leyndell to become Lord and is very supporting of you, he even teaches you complex sorceries when you give him some informations and when the hold is burning and he's still there, he tells you he's staying behind to get more knowledge and only then will he leave to help you. And like I said, he openly encourages you to become lord and is very disgusted at the other Tarnished for abandonning his role. And then suddenly, he appears at the end saying "No one can become Lord" even though that was his goal to either become lord or help someone else to become lord themselves. Him plotting to take the Great Runes at the last moment doesn't add up with the rest of his character, at least not his behavior towards you. Even the time when his edgelord henchman goes after you might be because he was acting on his own and it wasn't even about the runes

The leading theory about Ensha is that Gideon wanted to go to the Haligtree, and had Ensha attack you to steal the part of the medallion you had. Another part of the theory is that Ensha is under Gideon's control, in a literal sense, like how Seluvis can make potions that turn people into his puppets, which would explain why Ensha does absolutely nothing but stand outside Gideon's door until you get a medallion to access a place that almost no one has access to, where a Great Rune is. It adds up quite nicely to me.

Tbh, I don't see why that'd make it not add up, it's just a huge twist, that someone who supported your main goal of becoming Elden Lord the entire game suddenly stands as the next obstacle, telling you that attempting to become Elden Lord is pointless and impossible. Contrary to that, the way Gideon words his monologue wouldn't be fitting if he only JUST learned what Marika's intentions were, in my opinion. A man whose goals and ideologies have been shattered recently wouldn't be talking and standing like he does in the lead-up, and FromSoft is pretty good at conveying things like that.

FromSoft likes to be subtle, not to completely change a character's behavior with 0 sense and say it was the real plan the whole time.
It wouldn't make sense for Gideon to have already been broken. The guy goes from helping you in every way he can, from gathering and giving you valuable informations to get Great Runes to teaching you complex sorceries, to trying to prevent you from reaching the Edtree. His dialogue throughout the game are focused, full of determination, yet when you reach him he suddenly speaks like a nihilistic man who sees no value at what he does. It's the complete opposite of what he was throughout the game and again, one of his core aspects is that he despises those who abandonned the quest for the Runes while he continues.

Plus it's not like Nashandra in DS 2, she needed to get access to the throne to get what she wanted. Gideon has nothing to win by helping you. "My evil goal is to prevent people from reaching the macguffin! Naturally, I will help the hero and give them useful informations and then I will confront them at the very end of their quest after they've grown uber powerful enough to actually reach the macguffin." Unless FromSoft decided to make a completely stupid character, it would make zero sense for Gideon to be like this.

Honestly, I feel like we were originally gonna get a Volcano Manor ending

Also I restarted my Elden Ring stuff from scratch. I chose Confessor as my class this time. I definitely did much better here than when I first played ngl.

I also went to all places with free runes in the tombstones things as well as grabbed all golden seeds as possible and made a run for it. It definitely gave me quite the boost in stats for my early game. I defeated Margit at level 22 and defeated Godrick at level 29. Currently in Midgame and at level 112

Is it the one called "The Road to the Erdtree"? Only one I can find with a basic Google search.

Yeah I'm reading it from the same page already. Pretty funny. Good art too.

I think it's alright. Art looks decent. The Tarnished is eh. Melina really not playing around here lmao

Okay, so, remember how I tried using Black Knife armor and Crepus's Vial on Malenia and it did nothing? Well I tried it again, but also with Assassin's Approach (also reduces sound made) as well as Concealing Veil (conceals you while crouching).

I'm not CERTAIN it does anything, but after a few attempts, I've noticed that Malenia does not attack unless I get within like, 3 feet of her. Unless she is literally right in my face, Malenia doesn't attack. She just walks slowly towards me or to her sides. When not wearing any of it, she uses her gap closers like normal, this might be a unique interaction, but obviously I can't say for sure cause it could just be bad RNG or something.

It specifically only seems to "work" when I use all of those things together. Even if I have everything active aside from the Assassin's Approach incant., she attacks like she does normally. But with all of it, she doesn't use gap closers. She only attacks when I get right in her face.

Made a YT video. It's definitely iffy. i don't believe it's any different, but it could be. Of course, it'd actually make more sense for it to be a minor difference. If FromSoft made it so Malenia was inaccurate, that'd kinda trivialize the boss fight.

Looking at it again, I definitely think I was just getting bad, or technically "good" RNG. I think her AI just works in a way that makes her unaggressive unless you go on the offense. She still uses gap closers occasionally even with all the buffs up, but it isn't very common. Even without any buffs, she seems to attack in a similar way.

Disappointing, but at least I know it does nothing.
