To a degree. His own writer absolutely hates him apparently and gave him some traits the Japanese find obnoxious like being extra cocky, huge ego, hubris, loudmouthedness and stuff. However, his good looks/character design (later voice acting) causes his behaviour to appear like a gigachad's instead and gained him many fans, much to Gege's chagrin.

I'm not surprised about what happened to him recently.
