Crow’s Egg: The Game Thread

@ThisThingisReallyBroken

"I'm afraid we're ... not on good terms. But the information is useful regardless."

Useful, but not the kind of answer she would have liked to hear. Head tilted downwards, a slight twitch of her eye. If she had only made a better impression, perhaps she would have had an actual teacher instead of being stuck an aimless wanderer. But as he hovers forward, she inches backwards, reeling backwards in disgust at the sight of his grotesque teeth. Still, she manages to retain her composure, answering to the best of her ability.

"There was a skirmish ... A member of our group, Selene, managed to tame the wolves somehow. They obey her now, and she's taken them with her. That's all I know for now."

@PsychoWarper @Oleggator

You meet up with Jakob and the others. Witnessing the same views as they did before...however two vacant mechs remain. A wolf and a warrior adorned with eyes.
("So there they are")- thought Hector.
("It's kind of strange and ironic that lady not only knows robots, but somehow knows it's lead exactly us to needed point, would be good to find her someday") - Also thought Hector right after seeing Robots at more close distance.

@East gang

E-ENTRRY...D-DENIED! WHO ARE YOU?

The body of the pilot seems to have fallen from the back. A shroud of gas surrounding his body as threads still bind themselves to the neck of the giant. Perhaps...he can be used in a way?

@MaidRips

“Well! I know who to kill then...sniff..sniff! That will be for another time however! In the meantime, try not to get into anymore trouble! You are in the wolf’s den now, and there are no laws protecting the prey...”

With a blink of your eyes, he disappears! His voice dissipating with the crunching of the leaves. Leaving nothing behind.

@ThisThingisReallyBroken

She enters an instinctive defensive positions as he vanishes from thin air, eyes darting every which way for his location, only to realize he's far gone. Silence for a few moments, not even her parasite popping out of her hat for a few quips. But she's left with a certain thought. He knew who Lilith was. By name. That alone was curious. Furthermore, she wasn't worried about Selene. She was an immortal; a holy knight. Judging from how well she stood against those wolves, she didn't have a doubt in her mind that she could handle the trickster. But as for her position -- she decided to trudge forwards into the unknown, hat slanted against her eyes, constantly searching every nook and cranny for any hints of civilization out in the wilderness.

"The wolf's den .... I was already in the wolf's den the moment I fell here," She lamented.

@MaidRips

Further down your trek, you see another hill of corpses. Nothing too much of significance..however. Cannons laid on each side of the battle field. The bones of smaller individuals lay there as their chains are hooked onto the mechanism. Further analysis shows these were children...their spines nearly cracked from pulling the metal behemoth.

Mages adorning colorful garbs and various animal skulls on their head lie hanging from the tree branches. Their mouths agape and picked clean from scavengers.

rustle rustle

Further down the mud filled paths, you find a village. They suffered from the same fate it seems. No bodies remain, it is only empty. Except of course, a journal in one of the houses.

@ThisThingisReallyBroken

Her eyes widen slightly, watching the corpses in mild horror. Though compared to what she's been through today, she's gained a further understanding of just how plausible such travesties could occur in a world like this. But, the sight still shook her, despite her being warned not a moment ago.

Mages here learn on their own, or die trying! If you would care to look at the branches, you would notice most of the failures hang from the trees.

Irises linger on the hanging bodies as those words repeat in her head, hauntingly. She looks to herself briefly, then towards the forever caping mouths of the deceased. A hand gently rises to her own neck and she gulps. Maria can bare no more of the sight. Thus, she continues trekking. Red boots trudge through the mud until finding the village, her synthetically-enhanced eyes sweeping through every open-doored household until coming across one of importance. Scarlet hues illuminating the place, she approaches, seeing the journal laid abandoned on the ground. She crouches down to pick it up, aiming to read it's contents.

“WHAT WHAT WHAT WHAT WHAT AM I GOING TO DO.(Scratches) TOOK them already? The other villages deny me a place to run I want to leave. South and West why? Why won’t they let me in? I just want a home. They are coming for (scratches). I’m sorry (scratches). I can’t be here. I don’t want to die. I want to live and see the sun again. Please do what I do and try to go north. Maybe they will accept me! Accept you! Please I’m begging (scratches).”

The paper ends with nothing but scratches of dirt. Small droplets of water coat the corners. A small map with red dots can be seen taped onto the back of the cover. Spattering across the countryside, with the current location and a few others crossed out.

Maria reads the words aloud under her breath in a slightly monotonous voice that grows more concerned over the course of her passage, taking brief sighs in-between the scratches; her way of wishing that she wasn't stubborn enough to not bring Anna. But then again, she didn't feel like Anna deserved to see something like this. This graveyard. But it seems as if she's heading down the right path. North. The heiress takes note of the small map, adding what's recorded there to her own map provided by the soldiers earlier ago.

Map has been updated.

Taking extra precautions, she waves a hand over her chest, rendering her entire body invisible in case the attackers return. With that said and done, she attempts to leave this damned village and leave the dead to their unfortunate resting places. Whoever wrote that journal, she thought, could not have died in vein. Despite what the old trickster might have encouraged, she held hope in her heart that someone north of the area could teach her; could help her survive. If not, experience would be a welcome substitute. Those same red boots strolled over the muddy paths, attempting to head out of the village, and continuing her path.

"I can't resurrect people and I am not good enough to copy the form of that guy when alive." I whisper.

@MaidRips

Upon your travels north pass the bogs and marshes of the woods as well as hopefully avoiding the patches of moss ahead...you find Lilith! Marching through the thick weeds with Alexander! Exhaustion hunching their backs...

“Actually...ugh. Maybe I should go back”

“Y-Yes. Wh-What you did...what we did was wrong...”

“...”

rustle rustle

It seems your old “friend” is paying them a visit as well. His cloak searing into your retinas, letting a small light reveal his visage to you. He waves his hand, before returning to follow the duo...the two unaware of his existence.

@ThisThingisReallyBroken

!!!

Her first reaction is to be taken aback by his sudden stare. Her second -- is to feel a volley of conflicting. These two left her for dead. Moreover, both have tried to murder her at least once. Should her "friend" give them the same torment she did her -- it would feel satisfying. And she could stand over their corpses with a mad grin, as if to say, "remember me?" But she shook her head. Vengeance sounded nice, but it wasn't right. She did say she couldn't afford to be nice... But unfortunately, her heart didn't give her much choice. At a distance -- just enough for the Eyes Of Argus to keep watching them -- she completely clouds her mind of all thought and begins walking like a mindless automaton to follow their path. Just like... Just like Ghostbusters, she thought. Don't think of anything.

@ThisThingisReallyBroken

"Ok "walking to the other mech
@East crew

This one was open for whatever reason...tread carefully.

@MaidRips

“Huh? You’re alive! I knew you would make it! Yeah...”

Alexander waves his hand towards Maria.

Ahem. Well, if your alone it shouldn’t be too much of a problem. The others were causing havoc around here!”

Your “friend” appears closer to the duo. Hanging down from the branches. Neither of them noticing the grafted lips drooping down on top of them.

“A-Are you ok? Hello?”

@ThisThingisReallyBroken

She squinted for a moment. Still, there was some hesitation. Not just because she didn't feel like they had gained back her trust, not just because she felt like she wasn't yet ready -- but because if she tried to warn them, there was no guarantee that he wouldn't redirect her attack somewhere else. Furthermore, there was something that boggled her mind. They were able to sense her through her illusion magic and invisibility, but they couldn't make heads or tails of him.

Furthermore, what were Alexander and Lilith doing here of all places when they should have been heading onto Frijed territory? And why were they suddenly so accepting of her when being so dismissive of her hours ago? This felt too good to be real. Some part of this didn't add up. Regardless, all she'd say was a warning. Both to herself and the others if what she was witnessing was the real truth.

"He's here. Never trust your senses."

@MaidRips

“WHAT?! Nononono, impossible. Your...lying! We came this route so we wouldn’t come across him! Y-You led us to him! I’m not ready to die! Not yet! Alexander look around you!”

Alexander begins to quiver his neck back and forth. Frantically looking for him. Lilith chanting and casting all sorts of magic to attempt to find the figure.

“He’s above us!”

“HUH?!”

creak

A small gust of wind can be heard snapping the branches!

ZAP BOOM

Alexander shooting blasts of energy everywhere. His head snapping and zipping around the forest.

“He’s somewhere! His petty tricks can’t keep him hidden forever!”

....

Even with all the destruction, lays a deafening silence to the woods. The moment Maria would blink. The moment she would take her eyes on them for just a second, they are gone. Nothing. No trace of them lie anywhere.

CRACKLE

Lightening crackles behind you. It’s flash revealing the silhouette once more...this time caking and dripping in blood.

“Tsk Tsk. Not very nice to interfere with my fun,now is it? Ah! Well since your a here..a gift! Another prize for helping me improve my craft...I would have never been able to them so easily without the lesson you taught me. Catch!”

Hands covered in gore throw a necklace towards you. The string piercing through ears that hung on it. Upon further analysis, it would show that Lilith’s and Alexander’s ears would be hung on it.

@ThisThingisReallyBroken
....

It's too late for anything to be done now. She immediately drops to her knees, blankly staring at the ground. Maria clenches her eyes tightly, tears dripping down her cheeks. Once again, she'd failed to protect them. Blonde locks droop downwards as she weeps softly, holding the necklace in her hands. If only she'd been as powerful as the others. Perhaps she could have done something ... She perked her head upwards at the fiend, eyelids quivering.

"Was this at my expense?" Her voice shivers -- and she's no longer talking to the trickster -- but rather up to the clouds about, cursing God. "WAS ALL OF THIS AT MY EXPENSE? I know I was wrong! I thought I was too good for this world -- and you've done nothing but humble me! I've learned my lesson! Why must you continue to make others suffer for it!? Please! Give me another chance...." But she might as well have been talking to dead air. Clenching her teeth, she outright falls down, collapsing at the muddy floor, gripping the necklace with all of her might. Holding it closer towards her lips, it was appropriate that all they had been was an ear. For then she could at apologize to whatever was left of them. "I'm sorry ... "

@Party

"Very well."

Selene nodded, not wanting to waste any time, she would teleport herself, her wolves and all those who are willing to Lilith's location. She also wanted to retrieve her, because she agreed to ally with Selene's plans before.

@The_Divine_Phoenix

“EH?! Wh-What?! How?! Did you just-if you could’ve just done that all along why not do that earlier?!”

Alexander drops himself onto the ground!

bompf

...rendering himself unconscious.

“Ahem.
We were just heading to westward to our hideout! Thank you very much.”

@MaidRips

“Ahehehehehe! A job well done! A job well done! Now then...”

He drops himself onto the ground. Lifting her chin with a razor made of mist.

“Remember this well girl! None who cross me stand to live for very long..oh! I must thank you too! You didn’t even bothered moving a finger to help them! A clue with no context is useless you know...well then.”

His face meets yours, revealing several human faces stitched together to make a mask. Eyes down to the nose and lips grafted into a circular shape. Ears spread all out his face.

“I do wish all my friends would be as simple and easy to deal with like you! It would save me...so much trouble...”

He taps his blade across your scalp.

“I.will.see.you.SOON! Boop! Ahehehe!”

Within a blink of your eye. Vanishing and leaving only a silhouette for your senses to detect.

"Last time someone else handled it, but I also wanted to get an idea of what these places are like."

Selene explained.

"Either way, I have a better view of what to do next. I think your hideout might work as a good starting point for that, actually."

She noted, keeping watch on the surroundings.

@ThisThingisReallyBroken

She takes a breath.

"You should really take your own advice."

Maria stands upwards and brushes off her dress as if nothing had happened. The bird plops itself out of her hat and pecks her noggin a few times, shaking her head.

"Y'know, that wasn't one of your better performances, toots."

The heiress ignores her words for now. It wasn't out of foolhardy that she didn't help them -- or that she fully believed that there was nothing she could do. She only knew that physically, she couldn't do a thing to help their situation. But her presence, being an eye witness to a murder. Someone to torment and rub the death in the face of -- A ****** like him couldn't resist. And if she was correct in following that lesson he gave to her...

"I think he's gone now."

Selene would notice a small blue badge next to a rotting tree.

“Well then! Ugh! Alexander get up! Dammit...sigh..we are close either way. I always use that badge as a marker! Let’s hurry!”

She throws Alexander onto her shoulders. Using her magic on her open hand to push the thick fauna of the forest away from the path in front of them. Walking closer would reveal a small dirt slit into a hill, corpses piled on top of the entrance.

“Finally! Home!”

Upon entry reveals a massive cave. Spotted with two tents. One marked with rainbow bandages, the other using a plate on top. Lilith plops Alexander down onto the tent with the plate. Before manifesting a small kindle of flame at the center. Creating some warmth.

“Well! We are supposed to meet with an envoy soon further west near a...fort.
The place is normally filled with bandits but they aren’t like the others...they don’t attack you onsight. For now however...”

She heads towards her tent. Covering the flaps around her.

“We sleep!”

@MaidRips

A villager, wrapped in bronze pipes and cloth approaches you.

“Are you ok?”

@ThisThingisReallyBroken

Maria looks to horizon somberly and thinks of the ones she left behind. Despite her best efforts, she doesn't believe she's earned the right to see them again. Turning towards the villager, she runs her hand through her hair, a bit of exasperation in her voice.

"Difficult question. Long story short, no..."

@East gang

Upon entering the metal shell, you notice it’s emptiness towering over you. Small bridges and ladders twirl all over the place. Out of all them...one leads to the head of the mech. Revealing a control panel on top. Buttons and runes decorate the tablet.

INTRUDERS SPOTTED!

A few golems manifest behind them! Swinging their axe, it’s kinetic wave of energy crashing towards you!

@Listentomyrhytm

“...”

wheeze

“-GAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAA! What an absolute stupid reason to come charging in this graveyard! I love it! Do you care to explore this...grave with me? I could use an extra arm in battle...and in drinking!”

Turning to his horse, he thrusts his arm in a pounce. Giving you a drink.

“Oh! How could I forget! My name is...”

He takes a deep breath.

“VENTUROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!”

phew

“You must always say your name with might! Lest you become cowardly!”

Jesus... this guy was intense! However, Korudo would gladly take the drink, taking a sip. "Sure, I will help you." He says, taking into note all of this... jesus christ this was quite the... experience. But he wasn't complaining.

@ThisThingisReallyBroken

Tengoku wasn't really sneaking, though who knows.

"Well, for first thing, you kinda promised us you would have rewarded us in some way for helping you, so Anna and i wondered what you ment with that, and for second ... by any chance, do you know of any assassin that could be trailing after you right now ?"

It says its questions.

@Frijed

“A-Assassin?! What the hell are you talking about?! No...not to my knowledge. However, on the reward I did promise...”

Ruffling through the pillows. She gives you all a bandage engraved with runes...

“Use this when you absolutely need it! This will invert magical barries of protection and paralyze the opponent for a brief time. Ripping their bodies apart and turning them into goo, making them much easier to kill. Th-These can only be used once and contact must be made with the target! If you manage to kill them before it runs out, you gain their souls and one power of theirs... at least in theory. Thankfully I’ve never needed to use it, which is also bad since I’ve never got the chance to test it...”

She shoves it in your palm. Before warping a few more for those present.

“D-Don’t even try to copy the talisman! You’ll get the effects on you instead...

(Regeneration Nullifcatiom, Paralysis inducement, soul ripping, statistics reduction, transmutation, resistance negation gained and power absorption on death of target. One use only for each teammate. Can only be used once. Effect lasts for 2 turns.)

Lilith turns her head away.

“N-Now go already! Creep...”
