It is that time to discuss the reveals of the Soul King, it's purpose, what it is, what it does and how it effects Yhwach when he absorbed the Soul King into himself. In fact, the 5-B definitely is a misnomer, it appears to be a lot higher than that.
This is going to be long since I want to explain everything as accurately as possible with as much evidence and scans as I can.
For a refresher on the history of Yhwach's ratings; originally Yhwach was 5-B due to belief of him going to destroy the worlds in Bleach through his powers as Soul King. However, this was latter disproven as the Soul King simply manipulated the souls of the world which would cause an imbalance to the worlds of Bleach and thus cause them end. Thus we waited a couple years to see if there would be more information about the Soul King and it's purpose as it was still a topic of discussion with little material to review with tons of questions to be asked.
Those questions were answered in Volume 3 of Bleach: "Can't Fear Your Own World" with a whole section dedicated to the reveal of the history and lore of Bleach's beginning.
For this thread I will set out to explain what the Soul King is, how the Soul King manipulates the worlds (manipulation of souls?), what the Soul King manipulates and who scales to this.
Let us begin (in the passage I will be posting, the Soul King is referred by it's name in romaji, "Rei-o".)
What is the Soul King
The Original Soul King
For starters, the Soul King is a title. The Soul King is whatever is being used as the current lynchpin to hold the worlds together in existence; however, I will explain the first Soul King, the one we saw in the manga and the novel who is the crux of the matter.
The first Soul King was a powerful being from 100 million years ago when the Bleach universe was apparently just beginning:
"During that age, all of creation was in a state of ambiguity. There was neither life nor death; progression and regression flickered to and fro. Swaying and swaying slowly; this waning and waxing world waited for a hundred million years to cool down. Eventually, Hollows became a part of the circulation of souls."
The monk spoke in a matter-of-fact tone; quietly reminiscing about the world that existed before the birth of Hueco Mundo and the World of the Living.
"But before long, Hollows began devouring humans. And so, the circulation ceased. All those souls came together to form a gigantic Hollow, a Menos. The world became completely still. But you know, it's a strange thing. A new life came into being. As if the world itself naturally rejected it, he destroyed it and turned it into sands of reishi; thus, circulation began once again."
"That was the Rei-o of the first era...?"
One of the new recruits involuntarily whispered; but he hurriedly closed his mouth for fear of having said something profane. But the monk nodded and told him not to worry.
"That's right. Others; with special powers, including myself; appeared, but it is fair to say that the Rei-o stood out; his powers very close to omnipotence and omniscience."
The original Soul King is seen in a large chrystal, unable to move or speak and limbless, a predicament that left many confused. However, a predicament that is answered:
In order to turn this division into a reality, what was required was the power of a man who transcended everything.
"Although the Shiba ancestor tried to talk the Tsunayashiro ancestor out of it, it is said that the Rei-o was tied up and sealed within the crystal. The rest of Soul Society's history was witnessed directly by myself."
"A man who was later named the Rei-o."
The Soul King was a powerful being from the past, one who willingly allowed himself to be sealed to "create" the worlds we know in Bleach.
So how does the Soul King manipulate the worlds?
How the Soul King Manipulates the Worlds
MisTranslation
Official English Translation
For starters, the Soul King does not do so via the manipulation of souls as originally thought that lead to Yhwach's downgrade from 5-B. In fact, the manga says this itself, the reason Yhwach was downgraded was based on a mistranslation.
In the old translation, Yhwach explains that the Soul King was created to stabilize the amount of souls that pass through Soul Society from The World of the Living.
In the official English translation by VIZ, Yhwach states that the Soul King was created to stabilize the worlds. The worlds where massive amounts of souls pass through. In the correct tanslation it directly points out the world is what is stabilized while the mistranslation states that the passage of souls is what is stabilized.
Thus, Yhwach's previous downgrade is already not valid, the Soul King did not stabilize the flow of souls in the manga and the "Can't Fear Your Own World" supports this as well since it's never mentioned the Soul King prevented the collapse of the worlds by stabilizing the flow of the souls... so how does the Soul King stabilize the worlds?
That is simple... he just does. As explained in the novel "Can't Fear Your Own World", the Soul King manipulates the worlds with his Almighty.
Yes, that is correct, the Soul King has his own Almighty, further connectin him to Yhwach, a possessor of the Almighty:
In order to turn this division into a reality, what was required was the power of a man who transcended everything.
"Although the Shiba ancestor tried to talk the Tsunayashiro ancestor out of it, it is said that the Rei-o was tied up and sealed within the crystal. The rest of Soul Society's history was witnessed directly by myself."
A man who was later named the Rei-o.
Using his powers of the Almighty as the 'keystone', the five of them created the foundation of a new world. Soul Society, the Material World and Hueco Mundo. Life and death were separated. The Soul Cycle ushered in a new era.
So we know how the Soul King is "manipulating" the worlds, but what exactly is he manipulating? What worlds? How many? Is there more?
What the Soul King Manipulates
Quite a lot of things actually as the Soul King's actions were the wishes of the ancestors of the Five Great Noble Houses of Bleach; however, a large misconception rampant on many forums and site is the belief that the Soul King just manipulates these things.
No, the Soul King created them.
The Three Worlds: Soul Society, Hueco Mundo and the World of the Living
"As the Rei-o continued to protect the world from the Hollows by annihilating them; to prevent the world from stagnating, the world itself began to slowly sink into chaos."
The monk went on, stroking his beard.
"However, there were those who did not find this state of affairs agreeable. There were five of them. Although not as much as the Rei-o; they were strong. They were the original founders of the Five Great Noble Houses, including the Shiba family."
The monk told them.
Each of them had different motives.
The Tsunayashiro ancestor was afraid that this mighty power would someday be used against them.
The ancestor of the opposing clan said that it was necessary to have a world that would serve as the lid to cover up the 'pit' that would later be known as 'Hell'.
The Kuchiki ancestor believed that a new order was necessary to solidify the world more.
The Shihoin ancestor said that it was necessary to form a larger circulation to advance the stagnant world.
And the Shiba ancestor wanted to explore the path of purification of Hollows rather than destruction; since they too had hearts.
But their widely varying motives strangely led to the same goal in the end; to split the world. A world of order, a world of implementation, also a paradise of sand where Hollows from two sides would end up in.
Perhaps another form of the world would be born, but the essential thing was the clear separation the world of the 'living' from the world of the 'dead'.
Now the key word here is "created".
The Soul King made these worlds and manipulate them to be separate from one another from the original world of the Bleachverse.
Now, since the Soul King made these worlds, the dimensions connected or connecting these worlds must have been made as well:
The Dangai is a separate space and time.
The Dangai directly connects the World of the Living and Soul Society.
Dangai:
The Precipice World.
The Dangai is a place of a different time and space that is disconnected from the time and spaces of Soul Society and the World of the Living explicitly.
A disconnected space that is surrounded by a torrent of layers of time that make time flow differently in it than in Soul Society and the World of the Living.
The Dangai also directly connects Soul Society to the World of the Living, allowing one to travel between the worlds via the Dangai.
As the World of the Living and the Soul Society did not exist before the Soul King, the Dangai must have been made by the Soul King.
Garganta is a "void" with a torrent of Reishi.
Garganta surrounds the World of the Living, Soul Society, the Dangai and Kyogoku.
Garganta:
The Garganta is a void filled with a chaos of Reishi and unstable Reiatsu. However, it's not a true void in the descriptions of the wiki as it possesses Reiatsu and Reishi inside. Plus random pockets of Kyogoku exist within it as well.
However, the Garganta connects Hueco Mundo to the World of the Living as it the source of traveling to the World of the Living from Hueco Mundo by Hollows. It also surrounds practically everything in the Bleachverse as it surrounds the World of the Living, Soul Society, the Dangai and Kyogoku.
The Garganta must have been created by the Soul King as it connects Hueco Mundo to the World of the Living and surrounds the cosmology of Bleach the the Soul King created.
What Is Not Made by the Soul King
1) THE UNIVERSE! THE UNIVERSE WAS IN EXISTENCE ALREADY! THIS IS NOT 3-A OR 2-C!
2) The Kyogku. It was not made by the Soul King as the Kyogoku are a result of wandered lost souls.
3) Hell. As stated in the quote of the creation of the worlds, Hell was already in existence and a goal was to put a lid on Hell via sealing it with a world.
The Dilemma
What I mean by "The Dilemma" is simply the extent to the Soul King's creation and what he did with them.
We know that the Soul King made three worlds: Soul Society, the World of the Living and Hueco Mundo. However, what did he do with them once he made them?
This question is important since it effects the "What Did the Soul King Manipulate (Create)" category. What he did with them could add more to what he created, thus I want to explain in detail what he did with each world as it's not directly given to us, it's something we must interpret with all the details we have.
The World of the Living:
The World of the Living is simple as it's simply Earth, the world where the living live.
What About the Sun and Moon?
There is no reason to assume the Soul King made the sun and moon of the World of the Living, it exists in the real universe, thus the sun and moon could already have been in existence just like real life with the sun and moon having existed more than a billion years ago.
Kishi = Matter, Reishi = Spiritual Matter
Hueco Mundo and Soul Society's atmosphere are made of Reishi.
The buildings of Soul Society are made of Reishi.
The sands, trees, rocks and buildings of Hueco Mundo are all made of Reishi.
Everything that has ever existed or entered Soul Society and Hueco Mundo is made of Reishi.
Soul Society:
The Soul Society is the world where the Shinigami and spirits live in; however, it seems to be it's own dimension and not located in the universe the World of the Living is located in.
I state this as I mentioned the Dangai above is a dimension that connects the two worlds as there is no other means of travel. That and the fact that the Soul Society is entirely comprised of Reishi. Reishi is spiritual matter different from Kishi, the normal matter that makes up the World of the Living. They are made of two different sets of matter and can't exist together, thus Soul Society must be in it's own dimension.
The beings that live in Soul Society are all Konpaku (souls) and all Konpaku are made of Reishi.
The atmosphere in Soul Society is entirely comprised of Reishi.
The buildings of Soul Society are entirely comprised of Reishi.
We are directly told that everything that enters Soul Society and has ever existed in Soul Society is entirely comprised of Reishi.
What About the Sun and Moon?
Soul Society does have a su and a moon.
Being in Soul Society's dimension means it must be made of Reishi. Even if we were to assume that only the Soul Society planet is Reishi (which is unfounded), this still means that the Soul King either made a sun and moon or was able to teleport a Sun and moon into Soul Society's dimension since he made the dimension and put the things in the dimension.
Hueco Mundo:
Hueco Mundo is the world where the Hollows live in; however, it seems to be it's own dimension and not located in the universe the World of the Living is located in nor is it with the Soul Society
I state this as I mentioned the Garganta above is a dimension that connects the Hueco Mundo to the World of the Living as there is no other means of travel. That and the fact that Hueco Mundo is entirely comprised of Reishi just like Soul Society.
The beings that live in Hueco Mundo are all Konpaku (souls) and all Konpaku are made of Reishi.
The atmosphere in Hueco Mundo is entirely comprised of Reishi.
The rocks, sands, trees and buildings of Hueco Mundo are entirely comprised of Reishi.
We are directly told that everything that enters Hueco Mundo and has ever existed in Hueco Mundo is entirely comprised of Reishi.
What About the Moon?
Hueco Mundo does have a moon.
Being in Hueco Mundo's dimension means it must be made of Reishi. Even if we were to assume that only the Hueco Mundo planet is Reishi (which is unfounded as well), this still means that the Soul King either made a moon or was able to teleport a moon into Soul Society's dimension since he made the dimension and put the things in the dimension.
Where Did the Reishi Come From?
I'd assume many would ask if the Soul King made Reishi or Reishi already existed and the Soul King manipulated it to make Soul Society and Hueco Mundo including their extra assests.
I actually believe it's a bit of both, I think it's reasonable to assume he made it and then he manipulated it due to a passage of the Soul King's past from "Can't Fear Your Own World":
The monk spoke in a matter-of-fact tone; quietly reminiscing about the world that existed before the birth of Hueco Mundo and the World of the Living.
"But before long, Hollows began devouring humans. And so, the circulation ceased. All those souls came together to form a gigantic Hollow, a Menos. The world became completely still. But you know, it's a strange thing. A new life came into being. As if the world itself naturally rejected it, he destroyed it and turned it into sands of reishi; thus, circulation began once again."
"That was the Rei-o of the first era...?"
Since the worlds of Soul Society and Hueco Mundo did not exist, Hollows existed along humans and devoured them, amassing power without restriction until the formed into a condensed giant Menos.
Reishi had not existed in these times; however, the Soul King defeated this Hollow and transmuted it's condensed body into Reishi. The Reishi that is the worlds of Hueco Mundo and Soul Society.
The Soul King was powerful into to defeat this Hollow and turned it's body into Reishi and must have used the Reishi to form Hueco Mundo (and it's assests) and Soul Society (and it's assests).
Who Scales to the Soul King?
Easy, no one.
No one should scale to the Prime Soul King.
The Soul King in his Prime made the worlds, the Dangai, the Garganta, defeated the Hollow whose body became the matter of Soul Society and Hueco Mundo and moved the worlds into their dimensions and positions.
This is due to the fact that the Soul King had a large portion of his powers stripped from him:
"Perhaps it was because he could see the far-flung future.... Maybe he could not escape his fear; or maybe he found some hope in the new world.... I don't really understand... But the Rei-o dared not resist it."
The monk lowered his eyes and then repeated his first words.
"But the Tsunayashiro ancestor doubted even this non-resistance. Afraid of the Rei-o escaping from his seal by himself; he neither wanted the Rei-o to live nor did he want to kill him. Continuing this helix of contradictions, the Right Arm of 'stagnation' and the Left Arm of 'Progress' were torn off."
...
"Well; I suppose that still wasn't enough. The ancestors; including Tsunayashiro; gouged out his heart and internal organs; and dismembered both his legs. Doing so, they destroyed his power; creating a king convenient for themselves."
...
"Convenient indeed. He continues to remain the lynchpin without ever having a say in the workings of this world, while the real business is carried out by others." So what is a weakened Soul King capable of?
What is a Weakened Soul King's Power?
Well, he scales to whatever the AP is needed to keep 3 world's colliding into each other and the energy to be able to move 3 worlds around.
Even though the Soul King was in it's decrepit and weakened state, it still had the power to hold the world's apart as after the Soul King was accidentally killed by Ichigo, the world's immediately began to merge back into one, the original world.
The reverse is also true.
The Soul King could also just merge the worlds together as well.
Who Scales to the Weakened Soul King?
Only two characters directly scale to the Weakened Soul King:
Mimihagi:
Mimihagi is the right arm of the Soul King.
After the Soul King died from being killed by Ichigo, the worlds were merging back together; however, the worlds were saved from this because Mimihagi took the Soul King's place and became the new Soul King. The new lynchpin and used it's power to hold back the worlds from merging and keeping them in their separate places.
In fact, when Mimihagi died after having become the Soul King, the worlds were going to merge once more.
Mimihagi scales due to performing the Weakened Soul King's feat itself.
Yhwach:
Yhwach has an Almighty, but nothing states Yhwach's Almighty is equal to the Prime Soul King's Almighty.
However, Yhwach scales to the Weakened Soul King and even above him:
1) Yhwach absorbed Mimihagi's powers granting him Mimihagi's abilities (already on Yhwach's profile) and Mimihagi's power.
2) Yhwach absorbs the Weakened Soul King. Despite the Soul King being weakened, he still possessed an enormous amount of power as it took Yhwach much longer to absorb the Soul King than how quickly he absorbed Mimihagi.
Yhwach becomes the Soul King as well as he keeps the worlds from merging together after Mimihagi had died after becoming the Soul King. Yhwach was even going to merge the worlds together in his fight with Ichigo; however, Ichigo kills him before it.
Yhwach's Key's explained:
Mimihagi Absorbed - Scales to Mimihagi's Power added onto his.
Soul King Absorbed - Scales to Mimihagi and the Weakened Soul King's Powers added onto his.
Post-Power Absorption - Scales to Mimihagi, the Weakened Soul King, Gerard's strongest Key, Haschwalth's and Ichigo's Quincy and Hollow Power added onto his.
Who Scales to Soul King Yhwach?
Only two characters directly scale:
Ichigo Kurosaki:
Ichigo Kurosaki should directly scale for obvious reasons, I'll explain with his Keys:
True Shikai with Hollow Merged (This should be renamed to Hollowfication honestly) - True Shikai Ichigo should not scale whatsoever; however, with Hollowfication he should scale as with it he injures a Soul King Absorbed Yhwach.
True Bankai - True Bankai Ichigo killed Post-Absorption Yhwach with a strike and endures an onslaught of attacks from Soul King Absorbed Yhwach.
True Bankai with Hollow Merged - Should be much higher than True Bankai.
Sosuke Aizen:
Simple:
EoS - Power Scaling from Ichigo and [enduring attacks from Yhwach.] Should note that Aizen had his powers restricted in this fight due to the black suit on his body being a seal.
Conclusion
No one should scale to the Prime Soul King.
The Prime Soul King made the 3 worlds, what's inside Soul Society and Hueco Mundo's dimensions as he made the Reishi in them, killed a giant Hollow and turned it's body into the Reishi that makes up Soul Society and Hueco Mundo, made the Dangai, made the Garganta and moved the Worlds to their respective places.
The Weakened Soul King is capable of holding back the worlds from merging together and is capable of merging them together as well.
Mimihagi scales to the Weakened Soul King due to performing it's feat.
Yhwach scales to the Weakened Soul King due to absorbing Mimihagi and the Weakened Soul King.
Ichigo and Aizen scale to Yhwach for fighting him.
I guess the reals question should still be what is the tier for holding 3 worlds from colliding and being able to collide 3 worlds?
That would be Mimihagi and the Weakened Soul King's Tier with Yhwach, Ichigo and Aizen scaling above.
And what is the tier for the Prime Soul King making everything he did and doing everything he did?
That would be the Prime Soul King's tier and no one scales to it.
If it means anything, there is currently a calc for a character in Bleach moving away Soul Society and the World of the Living away from each other.
