Blake Belladona vs Guts

Post the skill chain and we'll talk about whether or not her skill is Superior. Everything else I've addressed.
At the bottom of the skill chain is aura users as a whole. While every living being in RWBY technically has Aura, actually being able to utilize it for things such as defense, regen, and senses requires years of training and a high enough degree of martial skill (and yes you actually need martial skill for it) that only a small percentage of the population of the entire planet ever become skilled enough to utilize their aura. Of that small percentage, an even smaller percentage ever become skilled enough to manifest/control a Semblance (yes semblances are also skill-based). To reach this small percentage comes to the second half of the bottom of the chain: Almost every character worth their salt in RWBY has spent their entire life training in combat and can fight hordes of Grimm with little issue (Almost because Jaune exists). The entirety of the main cast of RWBY was initially enrolled at Beacon Academy, one of the most prestigious combat schools in the world, with almost everyone who was accepted there having been trained for almost their entire life to fight monsters, and each one that was not professionally trained requiring a skill display overseen by Ozpin, who has the composite skill of several thousand professional huntsmen that he accumulated over his immortal lifetime.

TL;DR, Skill Baseline = Having a lifetime of combat training, being able to solo hordes of monsters that can easily kill you if you make a single mistake, being part of the single-digit population of the planet skilled enough in martial combat to be able to subconsciously project your soul as a defensive barrier and being skilled enough in martial combat to project your soul as a superpower, and being recognized as one of the most skilled fighters in the world by a guy with millennia of composite combat skill

Thats the baseline for skill in the verse.

Before the Beacon Arc Ruby had been personally trained by her uncle Qrow in combat and as a result she was noted as always excelling above her peers in combat training. At the start of the series Ruby was at a level of skill that even though she was two years away from being eligible to join Beacon she was admitted due her combat prowess impressing Ozpin, with him noting that she was already a master at wielding one of the most dangerous weapons ever designed. In combat Ruby is capable of taking on entire hordes of Grimm on her own and walking away without a scratch and utilizing the different functionalities of the Crescent Rose, such as the massive recoil from the rifle aspect of the weapon and the weapon's transformative capabilities, in tandem with each other and her Semblance in order to maintain an edge over her opponent. Basically every named character is around this level of skill in the early seasons.

Now for Velvet. Velvet is able to perfectly and instantly mimic the exact moves that she observes other people use in combat as well as utilize multiple different fighting styles simultaneously, both armed and unarmed. Thanks to Anesidora, Velvet is also able to copy fighting styles that utilize weapons, and she is able to wield the weapons that she copies just as effectively as their original user. To date that we know of, Velvet is able to simultaneously utilize the fighting styles and weapons of Ruby Rose, Yang Xiao Long, Weiss Schnee, Blake Belladonna, Nora Valkyrie, Sun Wukong, Penny Polendina, Coco Adel, Peter Port, Reese Chloris, Fox Alistar, Vega Bleu, Yatsuhashi Daichi, Russel Thrush, Roy Stallion, Neptune Vasilias, Brawnz Ni, Bartholomew Oobleck, Flynt Coal, Edward Caspian, and Scarlet David. Of note, every person listed spent their entire lives training in combat and several of them are professional huntsmen with decades of combat experience.

Moving up the chain we have Nebula Violette, who not only outmatched Velvet in a 1v1 test of martial arts skill, but was directly stated by Velvet's team, who at that point has been working alongside her and was well aware of her capabilities, to be more skilled than Velvet in combat despite Velvet mixing numerous fighting styles to try to throw Nebula off in said fight.

Above Nebula is Pyrrha Nikos, the skill god of the Beacon Arc. Pyrrha is one of the most skilled students at Beacon Academy, having won every combat tournament she has entered since she was a pre-teen due to both her mastery of combat and mastery of her semblance, being able to apply it in combat completely undetected and having done so in almost every fight she's been in for over a decade, doing so with such skill and precision that she has lead many to believe she is untouchable and invincible as no one has been able to even land a blow on her in her combat career. Even without her semblance she has shown the ability to quickly and easily adapt to her combat situation and analyze her opponents while fighting and changing tactics to suit the situation she is in. She has shown extreme accuracy, being able to hit moving targets from hundreds of meters away and strike vital weak points on an opponent mid-combat both with and without the aid of her semblance. She is also highly skilled at using her weapon's multiple forms in combat, being able to switch between forms several times in rapid succession to both deliver rapid attacks and counter others simultaneously.

Then theres Mercury. Mercury is a veritable master of close combat, having spent his entire life training in pure martial combat to make up for his Semblance being stolen by his father. He is shown to be a very acrobatic and agile fighter who relies upon quickly overpowering his opponent with complex kicks that imply a near-mastery of martial arts that resemble Tae-Kwon-Do. He is also capable of a break-dancing style, similar to Capoeira, and makes use of Muay Thai as well. Despite his focus on kicks, Mercury also uses his hands to grapple, block or redirect enemy attacks. His experience and skill are aggressive and effective enough to drive even fighters of a high caliber, like Pyrrha, into a defensive position, with Word of God confirming that Mercury would defeat her if he fought her seriously. Due to his fighting style, Mercury relies on his swift and quick reflexes to counter and block his opponent's attacks as first demonstrated during his fight with Yang Xiao Long, altering the course of her punches and using his footwork to raise her fists and kick underneath or around her attacks. Despite the presumed awkwardness of his weapon's ranged capabilities he is a skilled marksman, able to shoot a phone out of a person's hand from a good distance away, and is proficient at using the many different forms of projectiles at his disposal to keep his opponents off balance. Mercury is also known to be observant, tactical, and analytical, able to notice and deduce the capabilities and limits of Pyrrha's Polarity Semblance after she uses it once during their brief fight, despite Pyrrha using it extremely subtly in combat and having spent her entire life honing her ability to hide her Semblance and its mechanics from her opponents and the general public.

Blake in this key scales to Mercury as well as other members of her team who can match him, as well as scaling above Sun, who was stated in Before the Dawn to be more skilled in combat than Scarlet David, who in turn outmatched Nebula in a 1v1 fight.

Okay then
And you know if Guts decides to clash swords with her at least once (clash meaning his sword strikes her sword) thats all she needs to use her swords grapple function to pull his Sword away from him then get on the Combo train

Are you gonna tell me that Guts is gonna strike Blake multiple times before his sword strikes hers at least one time?
Also a Fair not, even though Guts has gone up against those with speed advantage over him, that doesn't mean he necessarily dominated. Even Bug Girl (who was charging in a straight line) was bulldozing Guts initially.
Why would Guts be incapable of anticipating this before it happens? Why would he, in particular, be incapable of anticipating Blake attempting to disarm him? He's capable of predicting the trajectory of 2 weapons he's never seen before coming from erratic, ever-changing angles and catching both of them without even looking. Same guy capable of predicting moves from somebody nearly comparable to himself in skill, with a territorial advantage that worked explicitly to limit Guts' movements as much as possible. Anticipating that he'd be in danger with a blade lock is nothing new to him. He can simply avoid a blade lock.

Even if he did not dominate the fight, the fact that he can effectively move against opponents that he quite literally cannot see and were deafening him means a lot here.

Siiiighhhh

Guess I'm gonna have to make a Berserk skill blog after all. This is gonna take me a hot minute tbh, but Guts can definitely match and or surpass this lmao.

This match should be post-poned (or at least I'm not going to respond to it) until I complete the Berserk skill list. There's a lot to address in that wank list Weekly provided, and Berserk is long with a lot of feats.

People can still vote if they desire but for me it's unlikely I'll be responding to any arguments about skill and such until I have a proper response to give.

This is pretty much assumption territory. No weapon in all of berserker even has a pinch of the complexities of RWBY Weapons. Guts being able to predict the trajectory of 2 small projectile weapons he most likely could have heard is one thing, giving him the foresight to know exactly how Blake's personal unique weapon functions when no weapon similar in complexity exists within all of berserk is another. He isn't just gonna anticipate a bladelock from something that is 100% a Katana. That essentially means your giving him the Foresight to know that Blake's weapon also functions as a gun without her putting it in gun form. And even disregarding all that, there is still no plausible way Guts is gonna go against someone equivalent to himself n skill are arguably better at agility and not hit there sword at least once.
Even if he did not dominate the fight, the fact that he can effectively move against opponents that he quite literally cannot see and were deafening him means a lot here.
Yeah
How did he do so?
By using his sword to block
Which is all Blake would need him to do

Yeah
I'll add any other vote that has been made now

I dont think i'll ever understand why some people think that list is wanked. In reality its actually missing a LOT of skill feats, specifically because its heavily condensed

This match should be post-poned (or at least I'm not going to respond to it) until I complete the Berserk skill list.
Agreed, either close this or finish it as an inconclusive match and then reopen or redo the thread when the Berserk and RWBY skill blogs are made

There are many, many, many ways I could counter this, since a lot of it is just plain wrong, but, as I said, taking a step back from this match. Vote as you please.

From what I've read Blake generally seems to edge out Guts across the board. Even if her AP and skill advantages seems negligent it would come into fruition when they're so closely matched. And even if her Shadow clones are seen through, they still generally provide useful utility through sheer versatility.

I still want to see the Berserk skill thread, but for now I'm leaning towards Blake.

Agreed, either close this or finish it as an inconclusive match and then reopen or redo the thread when the Berserk and RWBY skill blogs are made
The outcome of this match is generally not much important to me, much like the outcome of any other match on this forum. So Blake could win and I'd still make the list lel. Votes can still be tallied up and such, I see no reason to close it just because someone no longer desires to debate.

Low Key
I'm now starting to Consider Adam Taurus as the more suitable person for this debate
His character is more suitable when it comes to Paralleling Guts
Im not gonna switch out blake though, i just wanted to make my thoughts know

Ywah, no. Calling this bs out. Everyone can get aura without any need of training or shit. Ruby herself ******* sucks without her weapon and she can use aura, Jaune is ******* fodder who can't even fight and he had his aura unlocked by Pyrrha and it just defends him. Even the ******* dog has aura, do people really think anyone needs training of any kind for that?

of that small percentage, an even smaller percentage ever become skilled enough to manifest/control a Semblance (yes semblances are also skill-based).

Again more bs, look at ruby for example. She has 0 skills without her scythe but can use her semblance just fine.

To reach this small percentage comes to the second half of the bottom of the chain: Almost every character worth their salt in RWBY has spent their entire life training in combat and can fight hordes of Grimm with little issue (Almost because Jaune exists)h

Fighting hordes of mindless beasts is such a trash tier skill feat that isn't even worth mention. Hell your average rwby character is strong enough to flex them into the next dimension so this skill shit is ********.

Yeah, good. Training to fight mindless beasts. Amazing.e

Being overseen by ozpin is completely irrelevant. You just have to meet the standards and done, not be on par with him.

Basically trash, shit and irrelevant things as they don't even scale to ozpin.
Thats the baseline for skill in the verse.
Before the Beacon Arc Ruby had been personally trained by her uncle Qrow in combat and as a result she was noted as always excelling above her peers in combat training. Now this is something that can actually help.

Basically every named character is around this level of skill in the early seasons.
This is pretty much shit tho. Knowing how to use her ******* weapon to the best of its capabilities is the bare minimum and walking away without a scratch from a horde of mindless beast that she can blitz at any give moment doesn't sound like some skills thing.
Now for Velvet. Velvet is able to perfectly and instantly mimic the exact moves that she observes other people use in combat as well as utilize multiple different fighting styles simultaneously, both armed and unarmed. . IIRC that's her semblance. It' would be skill if she trained to copy all of them or something along those lines, not just look at them and let her power mimicry do its thing.

. Now if Nebula was able to fight all of the copied shit Velvet has at the same time that's a very good skill feat.

. She do be fine, iirc she doesn't even use much of her semblance in fights.

This looks fine too.

That do be fine too

Overall I get why rwby skill is wanked to hell and back and I doubt she will keep up with guts but it ain't that bad

Ywah, no. Calling this bs out. Everyone can get aura without any need of training or shit. Even the ******* dog has aura, do people really think anyone needs training of any kind for that?
Canonically speaking yes, they do, both in-verse statements and the guidebook confirm that they need extensive training to be able to do so, there was literally an entire training montage in Volume 5 for Team RNJR and Qrow teaching Oscar how to use his Aura. To clarify, everyone can have Aura, but you need extensive combat training to be able to manifest it in any meaningful way in combat. Even when Jaune had his Aura unlocked by Pyrrha he still had no idea how to utilize it in combat, hence why there are instances of his aura going down in two and three hits in fights, and he only properly learned to use it after Pyrrha spend a year and a half mentoring him in combat.
Again more bs, look at ruby for example. She has 0 skills without her scythe but can use her semblance just fine.
Once again the guidebook straight up says that its skill-based, hence why there are people who never unlock their semblance despite having aura and some combat skill, like Watts, and why some people need time to actually master its applications in combat to be able to properly use it, like Ruby and Jaune
Fighting hordes of mindless beasts is such a trash tier skill feat that isn't even worth mention. Hell your average rwby character is strong enough to flex them into the next dimension so this skill shit is ********.
Can the same not be said about Guts fighting ad killing random armies of soldiers and demons when he can just oneshot them with his bigass sword?
Being overseen by ozpin is completely irrelevant. You just have to meet the standards and done, not be on par with him.
Yes, you have to meet the standards of a guy who has been training people for thousands of years to fight in a war headed by a being who wants to wipe out all life and will literally decide if humanity lives or dies. Theres a reason why Beacon doesnt just accept anyone.
This is pretty much shit tho. Knowing how to use her ******* weapon to the best of its capabilities is the bare minimum and walking away without a scratch from a horde of mindless beast that she can blitz at any give moment doesn't sound like some skills thing.
Which is why its near the bottom of the skill chain, and she was able to do that before she gained the ability to blitz the hordes of Grimm she fights.

Its also not evn close to all of Ruby's skill feats but its just something that applies as a blanket feat to everyone in the verse
IIRC that's her semblance. It' would be skill if she trained to copy all of them or something along those lines, not just look at them and let her power mimicry do its thing.
Her semblance lets her copy fighting styles but Velvet herself is the one who blends all the fighting styles she has copied to make her own unique style. Its genuinely bizarre that people look at Velvet and say her semblance makes her stuff incompatible with skill but no one says that for Taskmaster who has literally the same exact ability...
. Now if Nebula was able to fight all of the copied shit Velvet has at the same time that's a very good skill feat.
I can go back and check but Velvet was using 5-6 different fighting styles simultaneously in that fight and even Coco confirmed in that same fight that Velvet is able to draw techniques from any of her fighting styles an seamlessly blend them together at the drop of a hat to make her unpredictable in combat.

Guts: 304px, 207cm

207 / 304 = 0.68092105263

Dragonslayer: 361px * 0.68092105263 = 245.812499999cm or 8.06ft

Incase anyone still cared.

So Blake could still very likely freeze Guts and Dragonslayer if he gets caught by an ice clone

Random, homeboy, my dude, I'm being satirical. You missed that part.

I also don't understand why your responding to me like you know what your talking about lel.
Bruh...

I saw the comment lol. I knew you were being satirical.

I'm surprised you weren't the least bit sus.

azontr carried this thread on his back. I agree with your arguments in addition other calculations and feats of intelligence mentioned here, so I vote for Guts FRA.
