We're back baby.

What Is This
In essence, this thread is the hub of a play-and-report series in the game-and-story-generator Rimworld. The game is set in a colony on a distant rimworld (that is, a technically non-unified frontier planet) as part of a fractured and spread-thin empire, where civilizations clash against one another and other dangers such as monsters, mutant insects, and rampaging mechanoids. These civilizations range from primitive cave dwellers to futuristic societies. As part of the game, you control your colony and colonists and try to survive and perhaps escape this Rimworld to a more stable harbor... although I tend to prefer just creating a civilization on the rimworld itself.

Your part in this is to create a colonist. You are invited to generate one, known as a "pawn", which I will then include in my save and report any happenings with said pawn to you here. Your pawn can be as incredible or incredibly awful as you like, with the simple requirement that it must include one positive quality and one negative quality (which is to say, they can neither be perfect nor objectively useless). To do so, you have two options:

Do that, and I'll create your Pawn when I prepare the save.

The Lore
Less lore, more premise. Previous BMRP threads have had interconnected lore via characters appearing in different saves (such as PsychoWarper's character appearing in BMRP Season 1 and 2, or Crabwhale's character appearing in BMRP Season 1 and 3); in this case, I have no predetermined character who will certainly appear, but this is in the same universe.

The save is going to be full moral bankruptcy: the goal is to create a functioning drug and crime empire on an unsuspecting Rimworld, where we will get rich or die trying. We will be hostile to the Empire and will have to deal with that. We're going Breaking Bad mode, only we have the option to build mechs and advanced combat aircraft; Walter White could never. If there is a set point at which I would consider the save a success, it is that we would have 1,000,000 silver in our vaults.

The Cast
Your characters will be listed here. Good luck and godspeed.
  • Golachab (Topaz404): A high-intelligence Baseliner with a bionic arm that will serve as equal parts enforcer and drug producer.
  • Armorchompy (Armorchompy): An artistic Android that was designed by the Ancients as a combat model that ultimately failed.
  • Povar (Arceus0x): A good-natured Brawnum with skills in cooking and plants.
  • Macro (Phoenks): A Genie virtual reality engineer from a distant glitterworld who fled after he was trapped in his creation for several years.
  • Llama (Llamasatemydad; non-VSBW user): Eccentric Stoneborn medieval lord who has joined up with the druglords.
  • Hampter (DMUA): A Dirtmole ex-ring fighter who joined with organized crime to avoid death.
  • Gray (Epiccheev): An Yttakin shepherd who joined the druglord colony out of a healthy interest in other cultures.
  • Shadow (Shadowslash125): A drifter with an interest in art and inflicting pain.
  • Xol (Psychowarper): A Waster hailing from the Urbworlds that serves as muscle in the gang.
  • Eldritch (Grave; non-VSBW user): An ex-mech pilot stranded with the mob.
  • Aetta-28 (Crabwhale): A lab-designed super soldier meant to inherit the legacy of an Imperial General.
  • Shady (Lawiegg): Another Android, this one a scouting and sniping specialist, purchased just before the mob fled law enforcement and created this new colony.

Form has been submitted. Made a decently strong pawn, gonna have to find some way to possibly nerf him some more. Either way, enjoy having someone who is good at doing.....silencing. Of the masses

(could possibly make him bad or near useless in the stuff i didnt list as passions. He is very specialist)

What about Waltuh Genovese
Also probably could never, don't think I gave that guy any mech piloting skills. Plus he has a bullet hole through his brain, so.

Hm. This seems like a relatively hands-off style of RP. Might make a quick character just to see what happens ✨

Yeah, honestly, would be nice to see what people come up with. Decided to gift yall a good crackshot (because im pretty sure Bambu is running Combat Extended still, and that mod can be brutal). Relatively powerful (bionic arm my boost up wealth a bit, means harder raids)

Def not as powerful as my last one (i dont think. could be more. only one way to find out!)

I'm not, CE is ******* cool but it conflicts with other things too much and causes too many weird situations. Sad but true.

Well, thats a shame, now we have to deal with vanilla ranged combat (from my experience, it makes no sense whatsoever)

It's not really an RP, it's just a modded Rimworld experience Bambu plays with characters submitted here

Once the character is stated up, you can only watch the horrors unfold

Even better. I made a character. Hopefully they're fine. Just gonna dip my toes into the unknown and watch this unfold.

If ya want another faction to be a thorn in your side, try the Sovereignty Faction Expanded mod. It's even got laws and whatnot, and (from what i know) they will send people to ensure that your following said laws

Could be interested if your willing to give it a try

considering the point here is to cook meth I think we might not wanna do that

We may was well embrace the fact that we're war criminals. We already have the Empire as an enemy

And at that point we may as well embrace the Deserter route

we will be joining the Deserters, aye. gonna corner the market on getting them addicted to go-juice and perhaps sell them any spare organs we come across.

no idea how my guy will be helpful here but somehow i feel it'll work out

Drug synthesis works on Intellectual and Crafting!

(as do other things, like bionics and shit; your skills will be useful)

So, yeah, another Industrial level threat shouldnt be that bad (they should be industrial stage, similar to Outlanders)

Whew, was tempted to pick an insector but too complicated for me. Time to find another weird niche for my character.
Xeev lineage is lost forever since last member was celibate. hurray.

Worry not! Chronologically, Season 2 is after Season 3; so the OG Cheevler technically came about after XIII.

I've sent you the form. I haven't played Rimworld in a long time and idk what has even gone down in your rimworld saga, but I'd be happy to join. Also, please tell if I need stuff to be elaborated/improved on.
(Also can I send another form? I had another idea for a character)

Just the one, though providing I am not killed in a tragic hiking accident, I'll probably do another thread eventually.

So. We've got 10, I won't begin playing today (work summons me) but I may tomorrow (technically tonight), as I'd like to begin before Odyssey drops. The setup phase begins, in which I create the pawns and their ideology.

And my character is sent. I tried something different this time.

Der Settings:
  • I am relenting and using Randy Random as the storyteller.
  • Strive to Survive difficulty- I don't know how the balancing of the mods might change this.
  • World seed is "crime". Because of the biome mods it may come out different than vanilla for that seed, oh well. Real Ruins incentivizes me to use a relatively frequently used map seed.
  • Using Faction Control to manipulate the borders of some factions, specifically to make the terrestrial factions have more defined borders to their territories- so stellar factions can have bases spawn literally anywhere, but others will have more rigidly defined territories.
  • Our ideology is the Grand Cartel, an interstellar crime organization that has the Supremacist, Collectivist, and Raider memes associated with it; they value vehicle use, camaraderie, and the desolation of one's enemies. The leader is the Don, the moral guide is the Consigliere, the captain is the Caporegime, and we will have a shooting specialist dubbed the Assassin, who will primarily shoot but will shoot very well. There are but two relics on this planet, a street sweeper shotgun belonging to a former cartel member legendary for wiping out law enforcement officers, and... a sword called Agony-Overloader... also our venerated animal is cats.
  • We're beginning in a lightly hilled tropical rainforest tile with very good looking land fertility; since our early production will be geared towards flake and yayo output, this seems an important place to start.
While characters can still be submitted (indeed, characters can be submitted at any point over the course of the game), this is the initial lineup. Some of y'all are missing traits, which can be explained by either:
  • That trait being incompatible with another trait (some of them don't make tons of sense)
  • You're an android! Armorchompy and Lawiegg cannot get traits to begin with until they Awaken, at which point they receive a staggering amount of traits
  • I decided not to double dip in cases where you got the trait anyways from a species; there were a couple instances where it would allow me to add a trait your species would give you anyways (e.g., the brawnum getting iron stomach when his species gave him that already), not sure why that is.
  • Your species gave it already and I can't give it (different from the above in that it wouldn't let me add it to you, to get the Trait^2; for example, the brawnum has kind as a forced trait)
I think, then, that I'll hold off on launching the save until I wake. So, about 8-10 hours more, if anyone wants desperately to drop in a final character as part of the initial lineup.

The save begins! Our people, escaping the Imperium for now, have settled down upon an abandoned bunker near the ocean. The land is fertile and animals are plenty. We are in the northernmost hills of the White Hawk Mountains, separated by hundreds of miles from the nearest Imperium colony. Our goal for now is stability, and to find trading partners in this new, hostile place.
  • Among the ruins we have found a number of low-end charge weapons. We'll equip these to the best of our ranged people, as it certainly beats the weapons (or lack thereof) we spawned with.
  • I spend about 45 minutes figuring out workflow with the given skillset. By the end of it we have something like this, which may change later if it obvious problems arise. For the uninformed, higher number = lower priority, and brighter box outline = higher relevant skillset.
  • There are immediate technical issues, and so I will spend today trying to figure those out. I'd expect no actual progress update today, as I wrestle with the mods to get them to play nice.

First actual post, how exciting:
  • Our first order of business is establishing our home base. This bunker we've spawned near is actually a perfectly suitable little thing, with a wood powered generator and a few handy accoutrements, including a comm station (powering it off for now but it is handy), a hydroponic bay, and an electric stove. However, it came with but four beds, and we have twelve colonists (two of whom don't need to sleep); therefore, we will construct a wooden barracks for the rest of you to inhabit, with six modestly sized bedrooms. @PsychoWarper is immediately the second most useful on the basis that he can construct without ******* it up. Who is the most useful in this early phase of our drug operation, you ask? Well...
  • @Arceus0x, in addition to being a competent builder, is also the best plantman in the colony. In the future he will oversee our growing fields for psychite and poppies, but for now, I am content to have him prepare for the long months ahead and grow rice, corn, potatoes, and tomatoes.
  • @Phoenks is the winner of the First Mental Break Award, with Macro breaking down mid-hauling in a panic attack that drove him to utter uselessness for several hours in the late evening. He then drank something that I noticed we spawned in with (I assume the game granted it due to one of your traits, and I just didn't notice it)... he drank Cannibal Coffee. Which has. What you might expect it to have. Based on the name. Apparently it is acceptable "food" for everyone! So. That's news. Before he could finish the task of drinking it @DMUA sprinted in and slapped it out of his hands and made him snap out of it.
  • Our first day is spent eating packaged survival meals and bananas (courtesy of @Epiccheev, who prioritizes cutting and harvesting over planting; he and Povar will essentially pick up where the other leaves off) and planning villainous deeds. When we started, the game informed me our relationship with the Imperium flip-flopped about twenty times and I have no idea whether we're on high alert with them or not; if we are, we're in trouble, because this start is designed for Deserters, and we are most certainly less equipped than Deserters. Still! Some of you may die, but those that live will get Imperial-grade equipment probably, unless they have death acidifiers, in which case, yikes. The bananas gave @Crabwhale food poisoning, also, she has thrown up on @Lawiegg, who was cleaning up the pile of the throw-up she just made. Rimworld is very classy.
  • Research is semi-random, and as such we can't control what research we have available to us. Among the first topics we have access to is hydroponics, though, which is a nice enough get that we'll hop to it. A couple of you are geniuses but @Phoenks starting setup literally gives them maxed out intelligence from the rip so they're prioritized to tackle it, reckon these early researches will take a couple of hours each.
  • We obviously want stone buildings in the near future (or steel, provided we can get the resources), so brickmaking begins; not a very mafia-like thing, but one that is necessary so far from the city streets we once ruled. @Topaz404 takes the masonic undertaking upon himself.
  • Several people in the colony ******* hate @DMUA, such that they have a mood debuff of -20 (that's a very high number, for the unenlightened) called "My rivals are alive." It has the description "I hate them. Why should they deserve to live?" The only reason for this is that DMUA's pawn is staggeringly ugly. Only @Crabwhale has the mood debuff but DMUA is considered a rival to @Epiccheev @Topaz404 @Phoenks and @PsychoWarper (as well as the two non-VSBW colonists, Llama and Eldritch).
  • @Crabwhale was in a horrible mood and destroyed one of our beds. Troubling, but it gave her a +40 mood buff from catharsis, so. Whatever.
  • First kill of the game belongs to @Armorchompy, who shot and killed a feral guinea pig. Praise be to Randy. We will get 1/10th a meal from this outstanding bounty. Thank god Armor's charge cycler ultratech pistol blew a hole the size of a baseball through a creature approximately, conveniently enough, the size of a baseball. We have neither a fridge nor a butchery setup so. Shucks. Update: we now have a fridge and a "butchery" (read: square meter designated to be the spot where we cut animals up, outside)
  • We got ******* bombed by the Imperial Bastard Division. Man this is gonna get annoying. Turns out being on the wrong side of the Interstellar Law Creators can really be a pain in the ass. Had to wake @Epiccheev up, a heads up a few seconds before it happened said they were literally targeting his bed while he was in it. @DMUA was struck by shrapnel in his leg, but we started with a decent medical room so this won't be an issue. It did get infected but with good medical care from @Arceus0x and the room itself, DMUA was back up and running (walking, really) in short order.
  • The Bastard Empire dropped propaganda on us from the stars. It's just littering our front lawn. Horrible. I hate them.
  • @Shadowslash125 has had a rollercoaster of emotions as sleeping spots are slowly filtered out of the main room of the bunker and into that barracks; his is the last sleeping spot, which changes his opinion from "decent barracks" (negative thought) to "decent bedroom" (good thought), since he now no longer shares the room. Nevermind how often people step on his head as they head over towards the research bench.
  • Shortly after the previous update, @Shadowslash125 fell unconscious on the spot due to exhaustion; let it be known that he is not lazy and has worked himself into a coma. What a champion.
And that's the first session. Much to set up, much to prepare. The drugs will come soon, a strong foundation must be built to begin with. Ideally the Empire will piss off and we'll be able to lay low for a bit.

Game just started and my guy is already crashing out. Incredible.

Also DMUA pawn looks dripped out why do we think he's offensively hideous 😭

Just curious, how visible are you to the Empire? If they’re dropping bombs and spreading propaganda, it must be pretty damn high
(EDIT: ok so from what i see you need to get that visibility down asap because if they are bombing you they must really hate you)

Also damn yeah poor DMUA

Of all the events that transpired, this sounds so positively mundane compared to them. Like, the worst thing that happened was Theo overworking into a coma. Still glad.

I mean, if anything, everyone else's drip tops my pawn that looks like he busted out of prison and had nothing else to wear.
