Dragon Ball: Infinite Universe

I was asked to share this. It is by Sans015 who was banned via an IP overlap with GodlyCharmander and TioKill, so probably not the most credible source. And not going to weigh in an agreement, but they wanted me to share this.

Uh, all of these arguments has been addressed in the previous crt except super shenron which was yeah mistranslation, regardless the primary source that supports the guidebook statements regarding infinite Universe was shown in DBGT ep 2 by narrator.

Just read through it, but a lot of it seems to be translation gimmicks, some of which don't even make sense. Like, he takes the phrase "endless expanse" as figurative without ever actually explaining why it's figurative and why it can't possibly be literal

When it comes to size of Universe there is theoretically only 2 suggested size.
  • Infinite
  • Finite
If infinite has been suggested by all media's including anime, when Finite has nothing to stand on, i don't see a reason to deny it.
according to herms its poetic

It's a scan for observable Universe, which has been mentioned in the OP to specifically not support infinite Universe, so i don't see why it matters to have any translation. Koyama is Japanese as well and has worked in Dragonball, as per his translation, of the scans presented in the OP for infinite Universe, it's legit. Beware i am not using WOG but a fluent Japanese speaker.

Wait was that actually what he said?
Some examples of it's poetic use:

"感謝報恩の念は吾人(ごじん)に無限の悦びと活力を与うるものにして此の念深き処如何なる艱難(かんなん)をも克服するを得 真の幸福を招来する根源となるものなり" "The feeling of gratitude and repayment gives us an infinite joy and energy. It is the source of true happiness, which enables us to overcome any difficulties, no matter how profound they may be."

"mugen" is used in a poetic sense. This is seen within the context of the phrase instead of the isolated word. Same goes for the Daizenshuu 4 statement

Natsume Soseki, a Japanese novelist, often employs the contrasting imagery of "hikari" (light) and "yami" (darkness) in his literary works. For instance, in his novel "Kokoro," the protagonist's inner turmoil, anxiety, and guilt are depicted as a pervasive "yami" that overshadows his life, while the hope for his redemption and renewal is symbolized by a distant "hikari" shining on the horizon.
Comparing literary hyperboles about emotional depth to an informative guidebook description is actually laughable.

And above that part, the "context" this dude argues for why it's apparently being poetic is arbitrary nonsense like "oh no it mentions light and darkness and the universe containing the unknown (when these can be taken quite literally and have no bearing on the infinite line)" comparing philosophical novels using metaphors for character emotions to argue an informative guidebook about a kids show giving straightforward expository information was apparently actually trying to convey deep thought provoking metaphorical poetry.

Be fr 😭

according to herms its poetic

Poetic doesn't automatically non literal and poetry often talks quite literally with just an aesthetic way of wording something, on it's own it's just an argument of the kind of diction used.
<Number drops specific values like thousands and millions and uses scientific terms like light years in the same sentence
What part of a phrase like this sounds actually non-literal or hyperbolic in any way?

That is fair, I can't really be a spokes person for banned users so it will be a one time thing. Anyway, want to hear Firestorm's input but I'm leaning more so towards agreeing overall now.

These arguments are horrible, every time it comes to DB statements, its "flowery" or "poetic" its the same thing people denied 2-C Gt for so long, its not a good argument and is just used as an excuse to cope and deny the real mountains of evidence we have given, no actually counter arguments, just semantics, they have nothing to stand on. And this has all been addressed countless times in this and other threads.

It's fine. Calm down jiren.

I'm pretty skeptical about using a source from DBGT to upgrade the rest of the Dragon Ball franchise like Dragon Ball Super.

That's understandable but we have been following composite cosmology for dragonball since long if the given series are canon to each other. Just as how Z cosmology directly be used for GT. There are secondary source materials to confirm that the given composite idea behind Infinite Universe isn't wrong.

GT is a sequel to Z so using the same cosmology as it makes sense, but Super is not a sequel to GT.

But Super its still a sequel to Z.

So if we assume that DBGT's universe has the same cosmology as DBZ/Manga then it can be argue that the cosmology can be apply to DBS's universe.
Not quite what I meant; using stuff from Z in GT makes sense to me. Backscaling stuff from GT to Z, and then to Super does not make sense to me.
