So I watched the scene during the episode (and also watched some tangential episodes trying to find it before deciding to simply ask lol)
It's a very weird scene overall editing wise. Now then, this guy is pretty adept at swinging between trees. I agree with OP that it would be more likely he used the trees to break his fall, however, because of how the scene plays, it leaves a slight possibility he might've just tanked a full fall. Personally, I'd prefer we went with the more consistent result, so if there's other wall level feats in the series, this one is unneeded, specially when is prone to speculation.
All in all, I find myself agreeing with OP.
