Why are pages locked almost immediately after creation?

I recently created a page, and barely five minutes after I finished editing it, it was locked for only mods to alter. Why is this? To prevent vandalism? It can easily be reverted. All this does is restrict proper editing and addition to numerous profiles, some of which sorely need revision.

Because they are the most commonly vandalized or changed

Also, why is the attack potency "Multiverse level" but the tier "at most multiverse level?"

Tier 2, 1, and 0 pages tend to be the most controversial and hard to evaluate, so we generally lock any new such entries.

However, if you have not finished editing, you can ask the admin who locked the page to keep it temporarily open until you are done.
